<sigh> I’ll take these points in order
1- it’s not “an awful medical procedure” an early termination is straightforward, simple, and (for me at least) relatively painless. Couple of tablets, half an hour or so of discomfort, pregnancy terminated, boom done.
2- Being a responsible adult doesn’t preclude accidental pregnancy. Condoms split, hormonal contraception and contraceptive devices aren’t safe or suitable for everyone for various reasons. Some people for whatever reason just aren’t great at regularly taking medication- I’m supposed to take thyroxine every day for an under active thyroid but thanks to my raging ADHD I frequently forget, and I need that stuff just to function at a basic level!
3- the “cost” to your body of a termination isn’t always greater than the cost of using hormonal birth control. I tried the pill- I put on a tonne of weight (and also, again, regularly forgot). I tried the implant- I had raging mood swings, bled constantly and had awful acne. My termination was a walk in the park by comparison!
3- the cost to the NHS of a termination is considerably lower than the cost of antenatal care, childbirth, postnatal care, 18 years of free prescriptions and dental care and a whole lifetime of free NHS care for a baby>child>adult.
4- I obviously don’t know for sure, but I would guess Lily
obtained her terminations through private healthcare providers and not her local NHS family planning clinic.
