To be a bit stunned by Lily Allen’s new album

Oooofff. I mean it might as well be called Fuck You David Harbour, You Cheating Bastard. Safe to say she’s set a new bar for diaristic songwriting. I feel so sad for her, I know she’s not everyone’s favourite person but it’s always been clear that all she wanted was to love and be loved and she seemed so happy with him- he popped up on her podcast with Miquita Oliver a few times and seemed so genuine in the way he spoke about her… for it to all collapse in such spectacularly public and hideous fashion must have been awful to endure, so I don’t blame her for working through it by going back to what she does best but still… blimey. I feel like I’ve been spying in their bedroom or something after listening to it!

Oh no! I didn't even know they were on sale. I would definitely have gone.

This was for pre-sale today. General release tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am I believe!!! @WeeGeeBored

Does anyone know whether LA has someone who does what Guy Chambers did for Robbie Williams? The string orchestration on “Just Enough” is absolutely gorgeous. What a sad, sad ballad.

Blue May is credited as producer and others too. Some videos on Instagram showing the writing process, recording of strings etc.

Disposable dog, disposable husbands, disposable sex workers, distorted values LA, therapy is calling. You can't buy what you need. A therapist may help you to see that. Pay for that instead of further exploiting sex workers.

That pharmacist should've been reported imo.

The rest of your post, am not sure why relevant to the abortion as a regular method of birth control costs? If your pregnant, giving birth or poorly and needing NHS help that's what it's there for isn't it?

It was a comment on the pharmacist saying the morning after pill was costing the NHS money. An abortion would cost more, everything me and DS have been through has cost way more than an abortion, because we've both needed intervention. He's still under the hospital pediatrician and will need another MRI in around a year. He's had a dietician, special milk formula on prescription, and needed a physiotherapist as well. So, so far he's cost the NHS a fortune. And yes, that's what the NHS is for, but it's also there for when you just need a tablet to prevent a pregnancy.

I just can't see her as a singer. I hate her voice and she doesn't sound like she's singing.

She doesn’t have a good voice.

graceallen · 01/04/2026 07:54

Completely agree, this album genuinely floored me. She's just so raw and honest about everything and you really do feel like you're hearing things you shouldn't be but in the best way. I've been a massive fan of hers for years and follow everything she does. Even her style has been on point lately, I actually just bought a Lily Allen polka dot jacket after seeing her in one recently and it's so good. But yes, the album is something else entirely, she really has set a new bar!

Why shouldn’t abortion be used as contraception? She can have as many as she bloody likes.

Have you heard the saying “prevention is better than cure”? Of course abortion should be available but that doesn’t make it ok to not bother with contraception.

It does rub me up the wrong way that she cheats on the father of her children and laughed about it in her autobiography.
Then her husband cheats on her and she employs a load writers to create an album about how hurt she was by it and she’s suddenly relevant again.

What are you talking about?

Lily Allen paid female prostitutes to perform sex acts on her while she was married to the father of her children.

What are you talkin about, there was no laughing about it in her autobiography?

I disagree
She was very light hearted when she was selling her own cheating story for money.

I think people are missing the interesting thing about Lily, that she’s openly flawed and her mistakes have been documented her whole life. She’s had a difficult upbringing and makes not secret of her struggles to emotionally regulate, her co dependency and other trauma related issues (including addiction, eating disorders)

she doesn’t hide when she’s awkward, when she says something in the moment or when a joke or dark humour lands badly. She’s not always polished and PR ready.

i think she’s clear that sometimes she is an arsehole. One thing she’s never claimed to be is perfect and without flaw. She’s not apologising for her mistakes and mistruths, shes owning them and demonstrating you dont have to be defined by them.

I don’t know what people would rather, that’s she’s so shamed and embarrassed by her past she either lives a life of constant apology or just… disappears so people never have to think of it again? Too many woman are shamed into obscurity and I think it’s great lily manages to bounce back. It’s not easy, for sure.

Given you clearly don't like her I'm finding it hard to believe you sat down and read her book. I disagree that it was at all lighthearted.

I did like her when I was much younger.
I was naive to how privileged she was and then appalled by her cosplaying at being working class when I became more aware.

When I was young and naive I thought of her a feminist. Now I know better.

I think she’s insincere. Everything about her is a PR move and every aspect of her life is orchestrated with the public in mind.

She has been vile towards other women and treated the father of her children with absolute contempt.

She had no remorse towards Nicole Appleton when she relished in selling her story about sleeping with her husband.

She’s the antithesis of feminism. She’s just part of the corporate (patriarchal) machine. Selling “feminism” to women.

It amazing the level of marketing and image planning you’re assuming from a 16 year old who got a record deal in 2005.

it seems infinitely more plausible that she was just a bit of a wally. Why would someone so young, with so little support in life, have such a sophisticated detailed PR plan?

She wasn’t supposed to be your model feminist. She was a young woman (which addiction problems) navigating an unusual and lonely life. you’re seeing a level of manipulation that I have viewed as her just being like anyone else growing up and learning.

She was a rich kid with powerful family friends in every aspect of the entertainment industry.

And I was a poor kid who lapped up the performance she did of a young woman struggling to make it because I thought she was writing all her own stuff about all her own obstacles.

As I say. I was young and naive.

That doesn’t mean she was getting or had the sort of support planning and image control you seem to think she had.

it sort of blows my mind that you thought a 16 year old singer deliberately set herself up to portray an a feminist icon. She likely didn’t even know what that was.

She was ALWAYS talking about the objectification of women in the music industry.
Until she started taking ozempic and getting cosmetic surgery and the objectification benefited her

She was ALWAYS talking about how differently men are treated when they have an opinion etc.

She absolutely was positioning herself as a feminist.

And her image was very carefully managed from the beginning. That’s what record companies do.

That was not happening when she was younger.
She absolutely presented as someone who had done some thinking about feminism (but that in no way makes someone a feminist icon or someone we can learn from) she was a 40 year old woman at that point.
She became famous 20 years ago.if you read her book she had a standard, exploitative record deal in the times of boy bands etc. she was not in control, or backed by some massive PR campaign/image
