To be a bit stunned by Lily Allen’s new album

Oooofff. I mean it might as well be called Fuck You David Harbour, You Cheating Bastard. Safe to say she’s set a new bar for diaristic songwriting. I feel so sad for her, I know she’s not everyone’s favourite person but it’s always been clear that all she wanted was to love and be loved and she seemed so happy with him- he popped up on her podcast with Miquita Oliver a few times and seemed so genuine in the way he spoke about her… for it to all collapse in such spectacularly public and hideous fashion must have been awful to endure, so I don’t blame her for working through it by going back to what she does best but still… blimey. I feel like I’ve been spying in their bedroom or something after listening to it!

Years ago, probably in the 90s, I watched something on TV where her father, Keith, was 'helping' her brother, Alfie, with his homework.

It was awful to watch the aggression, bullying and belittling from Keith, and I remember thinking that kid is going to be scarred. Can't imagine Lily got an easier ride.

He didn't live in the same house as them, they were raised mainly by their mother(s) but yes, not the nicest of dads.

WildLimePoet · 24/10/2025 14:51

People actually pay good money to listen to her….’music’? Ok then. Your money to waste.

Why shouldn’t abortion be used as contraception? She can have as many as she bloody likes.

🤢

What was your point then, in saying you are sure the prostitutes she used had poor childhoods too? Was it a nothing point?

is it reading carefully or is it your lack of relevance?

I'm sorry you have such difficulties understanding simple posts. Good luck.

estellacandance · 24/10/2025 14:51

I read her memoir.

she’s a very flawed person and not someone I’d like or get on with irl. But I find her honesty refreshing.

it’s not fair is one of my favourite songs. It’s encapsulates 21st century het dating better than anything else I’ve ever heard!

Funny how you lot never appear on threads to defend people's husband's when they get caught using sex workers.

Who am I defending for using sex workers?

and out of the thousands of mumsnet threads I can’t say I’ve ever even read one about people’s husbands using sex workers. Not that you’d know whether I’d posted on them or not, mind.

It’s free on YouTube and so far it’s awful

FancyCatSlave · 24/10/2025 14:53

She’s absolutely hideous. I’ve not forgotten that poor puppy.

Everything that’s happened to her is deserved!

I hear damaged upbringing but when do we become responsible for our own actions?

Well she got sober and sorted herself out before the age of 40 so I'd say that's not bad going for a person who has experienced the kind of trauma she has (a childhood of affluent neglect, sexually assaulted by a music exec, death of her son, stalker who broke into her house and wanted to murder her etc).

I’ve had an abortion- there was no surgery and no anaesthesia involved. And one could argue that a straightforward early termination of a pregnancy takes less of a toll on your body and your mental health than pumping it full of synthetic hormones for a long period of time or sticking various contraptions up your vagina. And we all know condoms aren’t foolproof.

If later along the line, abortions are done under anaesthesia afaik and even if conscious sedation you are still being pumped through with chemicals to calm you.

Using abortion as a common method of birth control is just quite frankly mad. If nothing else think of the cost of an already skint NHS, I wonder what each procedure costs? Thousand? 2 Thousand per patient? Don't want hormones, fine, stick to condoms, then abortion is the safety net if condoms fail, not the 1st line of birth control.

I am totally pro-choice but I am also totally pro-be responsible for your own actions.

Omg
Lilly Allen has done a new album...that's fantastic,I've wished she would for years .I love everything she's done ,and her videos are always fab to
Can't wait to listen to it

Lilly? Is that you?

Bloozie · 24/10/2025 14:57

I like Lily Allen. She really isn't perfect but she doesn't pretend to be.

I shall have a listen.

Bambamhoohoo · 24/10/2025 14:57

It’s not even a fact that she used abortion as birth control. She said I have no idea how many and then said “7/8 or something”

a 40 year old woman hasn’t been using abortion as birth control and yet only had 7 abortions . I suspect, as others said when she was in addiction her life was so chaotic that she forgot or was unaware of taking or using contraception. Very common obviously.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 24/10/2025 15:00

She snhagged Liam Gallagher on a plane when he was married

"Only" 7 or 8 abortions. 2 kids too. 1 stillbirth and one miscarriage. She's 40!
So if all pregnancies had gone full-term, she'd have 11 or 12 children. Perhaps after a few she may have got her contraception sorted, her life too.

LaurieFairyCake · 24/10/2025 15:02

She’s loathsome. Not many people I hate but being horrible to a rescue dog is grotesque.

It’s not contraception though is it? In 25 years of sex she could’ve got pregnant hundreds of times

Eh?? Contraception? An abortion isn't contraception.

Lotsnlotsoflove · 24/10/2025 15:08

I felt really sad for them both after listening to the album. What a fucking mess. And her kids, too. Awful for them. Poor Lily seems to careen from one trauma to another — her judgment seems extremely off. I thought when she first started dating and married David Harbor that this was her stepping into a car crash, and their Brownstone AD video only solidified that feeling, with him acting the self-centred dick and her skeletal and simpering behind him. I actually like her and think she is a very talented writer and artist, who genuinely has had a really rough time of life and is obviously not well for much of the time. I hope she finds peace and a way to break the cycle.

Do people still use diaphragms? There's femidoms or the copper coil as well (I've got one and had it fitted under general anesthetic because my pain threshold is shite.)

I've had the morning after pill, I asked for it on the NHS and the (older, male) pharmacist got cross with me and said it would cost the NHS money. Not as much as having an abortion, and definitely not as much as having a baby! Wonder how much me and DS have cost the NHS so far! (C section, SCBU, week in hospital, he had an MRI earlier this year, etc.)

You’ve lost me there OP. What a disturbing way to look at abortion. I no fan of Lily Allen and I think this is going to come back and bite her in the arse. She’s not exactly treated her partners with respect over the years. It’s her children I really feel for. All this out in the open. They have lost a stepfather and their mum is making a spectacle of their broken home to sell some records. It’s all so grubby.

Or...their mother is an artist who has been through some genuinely traumatic things and used them to make a stunningly original and striking piece of art that will no doubt get global interest and acclaim? Hopefully, they will be proud of that.

Hernameisdeborah · 24/10/2025 15:13

I think she’s been through a lot and has been treated absolutely horrifically by people she should have been able to trust. I also think she’s very, very talented and I love her honesty.

I’d just have more sympathy for her if she hadn’t admitted to cheating, repeatedly, on her former husband with multiple men and women. In her autobiography, she didn’t seem to accept full responsibility for her own actions, instead blaming much of it on her ex husband Sam Cooper for not ‘looking after’ her - at least, that’s how I read it. Mixed feelings really.

Thegrassroots26 · 24/10/2025 15:14

The judgement on this thread is really unpleasant! Lily is an actual human being and perhaps we don’t need to be quite so awful about her? You don’t know her personally so maybe don’t judge someone until you’ve walked in their shoes?
