To be a bit stunned by Lily Allen’s new album

Oooofff. I mean it might as well be called Fuck You David Harbour, You Cheating Bastard. Safe to say she’s set a new bar for diaristic songwriting. I feel so sad for her, I know she’s not everyone’s favourite person but it’s always been clear that all she wanted was to love and be loved and she seemed so happy with him- he popped up on her podcast with Miquita Oliver a few times and seemed so genuine in the way he spoke about her… for it to all collapse in such spectacularly public and hideous fashion must have been awful to endure, so I don’t blame her for working through it by going back to what she does best but still… blimey. I feel like I’ve been spying in their bedroom or something after listening to it!

I don’t love her because I don’t know her. But I love her album. Yes I do.

Maybe she was laughing at herself not remembering and not laughing about the abortions themselves?

I think Lily Allen is fab. Quite humble in many ways & very real about acknowledging her own advantages in life / her mess ups / her weaknesses / her struggles / her views / her privileges.

I honestly don't get the passionate hate so many ppl have towards her. It baffles me.

I reckon if most of us knew her day to day she'd be a good / fun / valuable / supportive person to have around.

And this has reminded me to listen to her new album so thank you v much @AngeloMysterioso!

Even if you are pro choice, it doesn’t absolve you of basic personal responsibility, and shouldn’t strip you of some care for human life, whatever your opinion on abortion It does involve ending an early human life.

I absolutely do not feel sorry for her one bit. She openly went on a podcast and laughed about how she couldn’t remember how many abortions she’s had …

Shes a pillar of morals and class. Not!

I’m surprised and quite frankly quite shocked that so many here have so few morals. She doesn’t seem to care who she hurts, how her children must feel hearing their mother sing about about her relationships. How they must feel about her sexual exploits and her “contraception”.
Ultimately if you care about your children you keep your mouth shut. The thought of my mother having sex is horrific let alone all the other stuff!!

A fetus isn't a person though.

Another problem I have with Allen's "putting it all out there" approach is that sometimes you can tell she thinks she's coming across as very cool and relatable, with the things she says, but she's actually making herself look terrible. She's trying to aura farm, to make herself seem like the Cool Girl who is just the right amount of hot mess, but ends up making you cringe instead.

It's like when a recovering addict is telling you a story of some wild night they had coked out of their mind, and you find it all a bit seedy and pathetic. But you can tell this story still has a sheen of rock-star glamour for them. They think it makes them sound cool and interesting, and have no idea how they're actually coming across.

Youre not wrong - Eric Clapton, Corey Taylor, Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake, Kanye, Justin Bieber. It’s a fairly safe assumption that if you write songs at some point you’ll write about a break up.

This is the crux of it - the belief that it is a person/'life' in that sense comes from religion. It is fine for people to believe that but not for them to impose it on others

Why are most people holding Lily Allen etc to these unrealistic “moral” standards. She’s an artist. She’s releasing music.

I listen to it all earlier on. I can’t help thinking she should have left him after he cheated the first time. I get a bit of ‘I’m not like other girls’ about the whole thing. But I loved the album I think it’s really good

I am well aware I’m not being required to do anything. I’m sharing my opposing feelings and thoughts to a post where someone has said they feel sorry for her.. which I’m allowed to do.

As someone who has had multiple miscarriages and longs for a child and a family, I find her behaviour crass and tone deaf.

That is my opinion.

Lily Allen is really not required to feel bad about her abortions to make anyone else feel better, even those who have had miscarriages.
That is my opinion. Though I am not keen on using sex workers. That to me is way worse than 20 abortions.
