To be a bit stunned by Lily Allen’s new album

Oooofff. I mean it might as well be called Fuck You David Harbour, You Cheating Bastard. Safe to say she’s set a new bar for diaristic songwriting. I feel so sad for her, I know she’s not everyone’s favourite person but it’s always been clear that all she wanted was to love and be loved and she seemed so happy with him- he popped up on her podcast with Miquita Oliver a few times and seemed so genuine in the way he spoke about her… for it to all collapse in such spectacularly public and hideous fashion must have been awful to endure, so I don’t blame her for working through it by going back to what she does best but still… blimey. I feel like I’ve been spying in their bedroom or something after listening to it!

Not sure how I feel about celebs airing their dirty laundry in public when there are children involved either, just feels a bit 'off' to me.
It is extreme self indulgence especially when lessons have not been learned, she doesn't care how her words impact on other people. Including her DC as long as she has media attention.

So is it ok to listen to the Lost Prophets? Or Gary Glitter? Even a bit of Michael Jackson?!

Ok, am being flippant granted, but people are allowed to not like a person therefore steer clear of their work. I cannot stand Jude Law (due to an altercation with him) so I avoid any films he is in though I know he is a good actor and the film probably enjoyable.

Lily Allen - how she lives her own life doesn't bother me but for some it will. We all have different levels of what we find acceptable.

Edited

Dying to know about the altercation with Jude Law!

AngeloMysterioso · 24/10/2025 23:42

I do think throwing Liam Gallagher into the equation is a bit unfair. We can’t really equate the then 23 or 24 year old drug and alcohol addict Lily shagging older and much more famous and powerful Liam Gallagher on a plane whilst drunk with 50-odd year old sober David Harbour repeatedly cheating on his wife

Cheating is cheating though isn't it? Liam, David and Lily are all cheaters equally imo. They are all aware of what they are doing.

Looking forward to this. She’s an incredibly damaged narcissist who, unlike most men with the same flaws, is incredibly truthful both to herself and others about who she is.

Threw onions at me, full on rage. Must be pushing 20 years ago now. The onions came out of his shopping bag that he had with him. Funny now I look back but at the time it was a bit surreal and a bit startling. I worked in the media at the time so more than likely deserved it, but I still avoid seeing his face where I can!

AngeloMysterioso · 24/10/2025 12:24

It doesn’t at all, but would explain some of her poor decision making

Do we say that about men who treat their partners badly?

Some people do, yeah.

Don’t misunderstand me- I’m saying it’s an explanation, not an excuse.

Why shouldn’t abortion be used as contraception? She can have as many as she bloody likes.

Please read the college guidelines on termination of pregnancy before writing stuff like this down on a public forum. Also before deciding what to teach your children ( if you have any). Abortions are never viewed as contraception given the potential associated risks associated with them, be it surgical or medical.

I just read a few of the other posts. I don't judge LA. No skin in the game I don't know her.

What I do know is that not all terminations are straight forward. I am a doctor and have seen the complications. The basis for your arguement as such OP, is not a sound one.

AngeloMysterioso · 25/10/2025 00:49

Not all terminations are straightforward. Yes there are risks and complications. There are also risks and complications to pregnancy and childbirth, and you have the responsibility of a baby at the end of it. Lily chose not to take those risks and not to have those babies. That was her choice to make and I will not condemn her for it.

ps I know abortion isn’t <actually> a form of contraception. It was a direct reply to a turn of phrase somebody else used.

So she is female so cant use her own brain? How patronising

fortinbra · 25/10/2025 01:10

GreenFriedTomato · 24/10/2025 13:07

I don't think it was about her having had abortions. That's nothing to be ashamed of. It was the bragging/laughing about it.

She didn't brag about it. She just refused to show the shame expected of women.

OMG, people are so.... come on. Who tf is judging a pop music album in terms of artist's moral, their personality or parental skills??? Are you for real?

Its entertaining. Its unusual, its brutal, raw, shocking and funny. I understand if someone says "I dont like her voice" etc - but saying "I wont listen to it because she had abortions and did not regret it, she is a bad parent and cheated on her ex" is completely ridiculous. Since when we became Bible belt Americans? Getting a strong album burning vibe here.

Agreed - you can enjoy clever music without wanting to be the person's friend

Charlize43 · 25/10/2025 01:14

She seems like a vile person. Her constant attention seeking is very annoying.

SouthernNights59 · 25/10/2025 01:25

AngeloMysterioso · 24/10/2025 13:17

Absolutely. Because the alternative is women being forced to have unwanted babies. We don’t know the circumstances around those pregnancies, so I’m not going to judge her for having multiple abortions or for being unashamed of them.

How would she be 'forced' to have unwanted babies? Contraception has been around for quite a long time and while accidents can happen someone would have to be spectacularly stupid to get pregnant multiple times and think that abortion is the only answer.

I judge both her and you.

Happily the judgement of random strangers on the internet has absolutely fuck all effect on my actual real life so, you do you!

Wow, I’ve got to listen to this now. Thanks for the heads up

Gemstonebeach · 25/10/2025 01:59

I feel very sorry for her when she finally seemed happy after a troubled life. I saw her at a festival many years ago before she had children and she was so intoxicated she couldn’t even perform.

leftorrightnow · 25/10/2025 02:13

I like her. She’s honest and raw. Take her over Taylor swift or some other polished Barbie doll any day- it always makes me laugh when people say TS is so honest and open shen she’s so American and polished, yes she shared some bad relationship so tired but everything so sanitized and nothing too shocking.

sad to hear Lily had been treated badly.
She’s a heroine for all those of us who’ve had messy and less than perfect lives and had relationships we regret and abortions and twenties were we probably partied too much. Yep, that’s me and I like it when someone else makes me feel less alone and ashamed.

Maybe she’s just really fertile. I can only thank my PCO for having had only two abortions I can tell you that. I was ridiculously careless in my twenties. When I think back on it I can’t believe it actually. Except, I do know I was wasted half the time and mentally unstable. I just wasn’t thinking clearly. If you’ve lived your whole life in control you likely have no idea what I’m talking about. Good for you. But don’t judge others whose lives have been much more difficult than yours. She’s joking about the abortions because it’s too painful to be honest about how she feels. Everyone knows dark humor is a trauma response.

Bigneonsign · 25/10/2025 02:22

They're not actually divorced yet, are they? Wonder if this might impact the financial order...

It's a great album. Gut punch lyrics and spikey stories with beautiful string arrangements and melodies, and then bopping beats. It's very good and very clever.
Have been reading about it - written and recorded in just over two weeks (some of the greatest ever pop songs were written in minutes) and then fully produced (with the strings etc added) over six weeks.

Sorry, what?! He threw onions at you? 😄I've rarely felt the need to laugh out loud on reading a post. Did this really happen? Obviously more details are required

SwingTheMonkey · 25/10/2025 03:32

I most stunned that people actually rate LA as a musician. I literally don’t know a single person who has ever viewed her as anything other than a talentless nepo baby.
