Trigger warning -To have told my friend her racist Facebook posts could cost her her new job

greenishredblue · 22/10/2025 23:49

And I was told to mind my own business.

to be honest rethinking the friendship as our values are obviously completely different

she has just started a new job in a solicitors which I am guessing would cater to all different people from all different cultures, religions, believes etc. recently she has been posting some really well racist stuff such as “sink the boats” and “ban the burka” and “fuck off home” “Britain for the British” “Immigrants are pedos” “our children need to be protected not shot in their own school”
things like that.
tonight she has also posted a post saying “only nonces encourage children to believe they are in the wrong body”.

that last one I don’t believe the nonces part but I do have some options about children being transgender but I don’t post them all over Facebook.

if I were a boss of an organisation that deals with the public I would not be at all happy.

I even have another friend who is not as close to this person threatening to send her company the screen shots as she is so disgusted. I have said that is up to her and to leave me out of that one.

the thing is she has been done before in the her last job for writing horrible things about a colleague and was so close to the sack.

I just don’t think I can be in the same company as this friend now. It’s fair enough having different ideas and beliefs but it just goes too far

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 23/10/2025 00:37

I couldn't remain in contact with someone like that.

She deserves to lose her job if her employer hears about it too.

greenishredblue · 23/10/2025 00:37

was just browsing and found a post about a house being raided and some people arrested for having bomb making material and she has posted (with many others sadly) oh we can all guess where they came from, send them back.

they turned out to be white British born and bred

OP posts:
CherrieTomaties · 23/10/2025 00:37

Cut her off.

If she gets the sack that’s her own fault.

ThatRareLimeFinch · 23/10/2025 00:45

i agree with pp saying she deserves to lose her job. her remarks are vile as far as im concerned. even more so given her job.
i fully agree with deleteing and blocking her from your social media.
i cannot stand hearing people make comments like this.
my mums husband is terrible for it, and i call him out on it every time. it doesnt ever sink in i dont think but i cant sit there and listen to his drivel. 100000% make sure i call it out even more in front of my kids. i cant have them thinking, that thinking, and making comments like that is okay.

samarrange · 23/10/2025 00:58

I voted YABU but only because I wouldn't have told her, in case she deleted the posts and didn't get found out before the consequences arrived. I hope that the rest of the YABUs are thinking along similar lines, rather than thinking that she's right. Although judging by some of the "just asking questions" threads on here, I suspect we have a few wannabe boat sinkers in our midst. 😢

suburberphobe · 23/10/2025 01:05

I couldn't be friends with someone like that even if we grew up together from the year zilch.

Sorry you've lost your friend OP.

There will be new ones who resonate with your beliefs.

playstupidgameswinstupidprizes · 23/10/2025 01:07

She'll do whatever she wants on her FB and has made it clear she's not interested in your opinion, so that's that really. Tap out.

Friendlygingercat · 23/10/2025 01:42

Your friend is extremely foolish for posting this stuff under her own name. If she is in a profession where her public views impinge upon her professional identity she should do a "Tommy Robinson" and set up an alternative ID.

MaggieBsBoat · 23/10/2025 02:07

I lost a friendship over their rampant racism. Nevertheless I would stop short of informing her employers about her posts. This I find obnoxious unless she is actually suggested people go out and harm others. It’s like the people who contact employers because some poor woman has posted a transphobic post on LinkedIn. I know too many women who have been in disciplinary meetings for having GC viewpoints. Distasteful though it may be to most to be a racist. She is entitled to be a racist.
Her views are unpleasant but so are lots of people‘s. People may think you are transphobic for not agreeing with puberty blockers. Should you be sacked for it? No you should not.

spoonbillstretford · 23/10/2025 02:10

I wouldn't warn her at all and would send the posts to her employer myself.

Muffinmam · 23/10/2025 02:18

Stay out of it.

This is none of your business.

You don’t have to be friends with her but you need to back off.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 23/10/2025 02:24

SocksAndTheCity · 23/10/2025 00:11

I don't think she's one of the people anyone would say is intelligent 🤔

Exactly!

She sounds like a dim racist bigot...

Well done on blocking her!

Are you friends with the husband irl? If you are I may just send him a one off text saying - your wife is posting vile racist slurs online daily .... But only if you care what happens to him!

I'd probably let it take its course-it sounds that the employers will know soon enough. I wouldn't want this woman anywhere near my organisation!

MidlandsGal1 · 23/10/2025 02:33

greenishredblue · 22/10/2025 23:57

I have removed her and blocked. I am right in thinking she could be sacked for this arnt I.

Not only sacked but could also face legal repercussions. I believe it falls under both hate speech laws and malicious communications.

Yep. but you will never convince the thought police mothers of mumsnet that anyone is allowed any opinion they find offensive - they cannot seem to quite grasp that unless it is illegal, it is not their place to police it. Ever. There was a woman here last week who wanted to report a whatsapp chat for people saying words she didn't like - and then she herself was horrifically vile to another commenter and said the world would be better off without her in it.

People like the OP and her fan club never understand that THEY are offensive, deeply deeply offensive, to millions of other people. They do not grasp the fundamentals of free speech which has never ever meant the right to incite violence or break other laws - but has ALWAYS meant and continues to mean the right to offend other people.

I find the thought police disgustingly offensive, just awful, terrible, bullying, frightening, disturbing and very very worrying people - but I would never try to have them reported for speaking their vile thoughts They are allowed their ugly, hateful opinions.

And now they will assume I am a racist. Absolutely not. Not remotely, no matter their claims. But a person making racist comments is much, much safer to be around than one of the OPs types.

And of course the OP cannot be trusted, not remotely to make a call about what is a racist comment anyway.

And I recognise that the OP is making claims of comments that do sound racist. What I mean is I do not trust members of the thought police to be reliable witnesses.

What I do know is that she can just cut contact with the woman, which is what I would do, like a normal person.

pikkumyy77 · 23/10/2025 03:21

Nonsense—free speech is a legal construct not a vow of omertà! Of course a person can, snd should, report a person in a public facing job to her employer for expressing virulent racist or homophobic sentiments. She can’t e trusted to honorably treat all the potential clients or passersby of the business if her reported speech reflects her actual thinking.

As for the weird assertion about thought police have you given any rational thought to your own statement? Thought police police thoughts. Op is talking about statements which ate on facebook, public, and therefore verifiable. No need to accuse her of lying, being unreliable, or being psychic. The statements are online, s matter of fact not guesswork, perfectly good evidence of malign intent.

Always best to avoid the 'informers'.

This comment is pointless. Or your comprehension skills are extremely poor. Either way, do better (or don't, I don't actually care :))

Yamamm · 23/10/2025 04:26

Depends what her company’s social media policy is. My company has a very robust one and I would expect to be sacked for making those comments.
Free speech is allowed but hate speech is frowned apon.
So. I agree the small boats and the level of immigration are a threat to the safety of the country and need addressing but would never support racism or hatred towards individuals. I’m really surprised she has any friends. I’d drop her like a rock.

EleanorReally · 23/10/2025 05:45

i work with people who post dreadful stop the boats on their facebook
but if it is not to do with their actual job, why should it matter?

EleanorReally · 23/10/2025 05:49

i would suggest she has been hacked

SadSandwich · 23/10/2025 05:54

I hope you call her out on it OP rather than letting her think that your silence is agreement.

Depends on the job I guess but from what the OP says it’s racism. And if I were the persons boss I’d be concerned about how she would treat colleagues and clients who weren’t white.
