I have but it’s so subtle that no-one, and I mean no-one, has noticed. Not even my own husband who couldn’t really tell I’d had anything done. I go to a licensed medical clinic who are active in campaigning for regulation in the industry. They don’t do the frozen forehead look or big overblown lips. Their aim is giving (mostly) mature women a bit of confidence back, and 75% of their work is fixing the backstreet lash tech botched jobs. I’ve always had very full lips naturally but in my mid-50s they’d begun to “deflate” and look a bit baggy with age and weight loss. I’d also acquired some lovely “smoker’s lines” on my upper lip even though I’ve never touched a cigarette and they really bothered me. So I had a tiny amount of filler put in to plump out the volume and lines. It’s just enough that I can see the difference, I feel like I have my own lips back and I’m absolutely delighted. I’ve had it around a year now and they have recommended a review every 18 months or so.

Nope. But I have full lips anyway so fascinating to see it as a trend

Ah ok that’s totally fair enough, really interesting to hear people’s reasoning to why they have lip fillers, makes you understand more about them. I guess for some it also becomes an addiction when they just want them bigger each time.

I’ve also got a disappearing top lip due to my age - do you get it done just on the top one?

Yes only the top one, the doctor I go to is really good. He asked what look I was after as I said as natural as possible. He said if I wanted the full blown up look then he wasn’t the person to do it.

Sheknowsaboutme · 19/10/2025 11:49

No. My colleague has them snd they are big and curl up. And has a dark shadow which makes it look like a moustache

Is she happy with them though?

It must be awful if they really don’t look how one expected and they are really upset by them, especially after forking out for them and having to live with them.

Pricelessadvice · 19/10/2025 11:53

The women I see with them look like ducks from the side. Their top lips stick out unnaturally.

Not for me. I feel like beautiful women make themselves unattractive with them. Natural lips are far more attractive in my opinion.

I imagine people get the filler dissolved rather than live with something they are not happy with.

Someone I worked with had a lip flip
The wet inner part of the lip showed and she spat all the time .

Exactly. It may not be filler but it’s not normal to see the underside of your lip like that!

Oh right didn't know they could do that.

It’s interesting when people say, ‘nobody has noticed’. How do you prove a negative?!

roseclouds · 19/10/2025 12:02

Yes, and I love them. My lips have kinda got thinner with age which annoyed me as they used to have a gorgeous plump shape so I have them topped up once a year. They look great.

As for my motives (because you specifically asked) - my lips thinning with age upset me just as my hair thinning with age would upset someone else- noone would judge anyone for being upset about thinning hair so I dont see why lips changing with age would be any different.

Nescafeneeded · 19/10/2025 12:07

Titasaducksarse · 19/10/2025 10:42

I think very thin lips are unattractive so a little bit of filler can really help. I hated my lips when I was younger and 100% would have had filler. Somehow they've naturally got a little bit fuller over the years so I've not succumbed.

I have naturally big lips and was teased when I was younger. Now they happen to be in fashion, like big arses they never used to be. Why are big lips such a thing now?!

Because you know your own relationships best. My mum, who I’m super close to and we talk about everything, hasn’t noticed. I have no qualms about telling her, but I was waiting for her to notice (my litmus test, if you like, as if anyone was going to notice and say something, it would be her 100%) and I’d have been happy to say “yeah I’ve had a little bit of filler” but a year later I’m still waiting 😂

I really didn’t realise it can be just a once a year thing you have done. Kinda thought it would be an every 8 week thing. Guess it’s not that expensive after all.

I would never say to someone’s face and if asked I would be polite so you can’t say no one notices

dh sometimes asks something like “was that face slightly strange “ edit out of hearing -

But strangers might notice? Esp those with experience in the field, either as a professional or someone who has had it.

Edited

Darling, if I had them done every 8 weeks they'd cover my entire face 🤣 and I could use them as a floatation device

Results vary but generally speaking they last a good 8 -12 months at least on most people (even more if you have them done a few years in a row)

Who cares- I notice people who dye their hair crazy colours, I dont judge them for it, I often think they look fabulous with them.

If you spend your entire life worrying what other people think about your appearance you will be miserable forever. Even the most gorgeous models in the world will get some strangers online telling them they are ugly so who GAF?

Hi, it’s just something I have always wanted to know but don’t know anyone who has their lips done to ask. Just would like to know the reasoning behind it has it seems to have become so common now.

You probably know and have encountered lots of people who have lip fillers. Not everyone has them exaggerated and obvious with the duck face look.

Depending on the technique and the skill of the person wielding the needle, sometimes it’s done to smooth the outline or to even up asymmetry and you would never know because people who have their lips ‘done’ don’t tend to announce it to strangers.

You can think that if you like, but I really don’t give a shit, so….🤷‍♀️

That sounds quite nice and but wonder why some have them really big , like sticking out.

It’s like fake tan… you get more done because you see the difference from the last application or injection and not from the beginning as others do. Effectively, you don’t notice how far you’ve gone. Also, some people like the way it looks and as more people have them, it becomes more fashionable in some circles.

it’s more common now because it’s more accessible.

I won’t have them because the filler doesn’t actually dissolve as we were first told. It simply moves and in time blocks our lymphatic system. I won’t take that risk but done well, it can look great. All these people who say they can tell, can’t when it’s done well but they don’t know that.

andthat · 19/10/2025 13:30

Cancer treatment massively impacted my face. I lost my top lip.

that.. as well as feeling like shit, impact on my hair, my weight and a million other post cancer side effects left me feeling like crap.

I had my lips done. They look like they did before treatment and I’m so grateful to have had the procedure.

frockandcrocs · 19/10/2025 13:33

Nope, I’m fairly blessed on that department (the irony of being bullied for having bigger lips as a teen and now those bullies pay to have them!!), but in all honesty, if I wasn’t I’d have them, so I’m not judging anyone else (just the bullies!!).
