Fans banned from match

WTAF?!

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans banned due to safety concerns AGAINST them?

Since when is it ok to victim blame and penalise people who have done nothing wrong? Surely the right course of action would be either to ban ALL fans of both sides or better police the event?

So are Jews not welcome at sports games now? Because some people are racist bullies?

I genuinely can’t believe this has been allowed. Where does it end? Can Jews no longer safely access society? What if the risk is high elsewhere, will they be banned then?

What do you think? AIBU to think this is discriminatory and a slippery slope?

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be allowed to attend Aston Villa match amid safety concerns

Police say the decision is based partly on what happened in Amsterdam last year, when Israeli fans attending a match against Ajax were targets of antisemitic attacks.

Fans banned from match
Aphrodite89 · 19/10/2025 20:53

Maccabi were due to play their derby match against Hapoel Tel-Aviv today, but it has been cancelled because the fans started rioting. Please, spare us the claims that this is because they're Jewish, it's the club that's the problem, not the country they come from or the religion they profess.

Custardcream84 · 19/10/2025 21:33

Well well well. The tel aviv derby has been cancelled today because of rioting of fans.

from the official statement about the cancelling of the match.

It read: "Disorderly conduct, riots, object throwing, smoke grenades, fireworks, injured police officers, and damage to stadium infrastructure – this is not a footballmatch, this is a serious public disturbance and violence.
“In light of the disturbances and the endangerment of human lives ahead of the scheduled football match at Bloomfield Stadium, The Israel Police has informed the teams, team management, and referees that it has been decided not to allow the match to take place.

so tell me is it still anti semitic not to allow these same fans the run of Birmingham to put players and fans at risk as well as the local community?

hypocrites

They come with violent intentions to antagonize.
They did the same in the Netherlands.
They need to stop playing the victim card.

Victims indeed, more like a bunch of nasty hooligans who have Tommy Robinson as a supporter.

You’re kidding right? Ok, they’re not angels, but there were WhatsApp’s groups with hundreds of people going ‘Jew Hunting’. Give that some thought!

stomachamelon · 19/10/2025 21:48

@Simplestars that tells me nothing other than the fact Tommy Robinson- whilst being in Israel- has been asked to comment on the situation with Maccabi fans and their right to see them play against Aston Villa. It’s click bait. Which you know.

The fact that Birmingham has been thrown under the bus in being forced to host these fans is absurd and unfair.

Starmer will have the blood of any injured police officer or innocent member of the public on his hands.

EXACTLY. It’s not unprecedented to ban a set of fans and I think it’s especially correct if they regularly chant racist slurs. I don’t care where they are from. To then double down and interfere in a local policing decision is ludicrous.

stomachamelon · 19/10/2025 21:56

They have hardly been ‘thrown under the bus’ it’s where Aston Villa play lol.
They could always play it at a neutral ground. There are huge amounts of teams (some in the uk) that have a far worse hooligan problem. Ban the ultras from travelling as part of the conditions of game being played?

stomachamelon · 19/10/2025 21:58

Hardly any football would take place on a large scale if you banned every chat someone found offensive. Have you ever been to a premier league game? Even at the recent England game they chanted about Gary Neville’s stance on flags and it wasn’t polite.

stomachamelon · 19/10/2025 22:00

@Custardcream84there is no evidence they did that during the Ajax game. A very small group did the night before. There were far worse allegations against the ‘home’ fans and residents.
what other teams do you feel strongly about? Without googling tell me 3/4?

The SAG made a decision to ban them, this is not unusual when disorder is predicted based on previous behaviour. The politicians are forcing a U-turn on that decision hence being thrown under the bus.

So in order for the Tel Aviv fans to go to this game, Villa have to lose their home advantage and far less Villa fans will be able to go. This is bordering on the ridiculous. The point is they will stir up trouble wherever they go, their own local police have abandoned a game in their home city.

Name a uk team with a worse hooligan problem than this lot.

Simplestars · 19/10/2025 22:22

They are a violent group as reported in The times of Israel.
Birmingham has the right to defend itself from this violence.
If Israel can cancel a match why can't Birmingham?

I'm sorry but the timing of this did make me laugh. Imagine fighting so hard for these people to be able to attend a football match in your country after the police say it isn't safe then they go and give a demonstration of exactly why it isn't safe 😳

Millwall. Whenever they play Tottenham it is a literal riot! The matches are still allowed though..

The MTA fans were banned because their safety couldn't be guaranteed, because of a potential for protests from around the stadium. It's because of the locals, not the football fans. It sounds like there is a much bigger issue going on.

ColadhSamh · 19/10/2025 22:52

What say the defenders of the racist, violent Maccabi fans?
The Israeli police made a decision to ban a match because of their rioting today. Are they wrong too with their decision? How can this decision be categorised?
Shame on the Israeli police for taking action against these poor misunderstood fans that the West Midlands police dared to ban because of their well known violence.

They got banned in their own country today wtf is wrong with you. What else could be going on?

If you use Google you can see the many times Millwall and other UK teams have rioted and the number of injuries.

MTA are being banned because of the locals of Birmingham, not there supporters. Having 'no go' areas in a country is not good for anyone.

Tellmewhhyy · 19/10/2025 23:02

Why did the match get abandoned in Israel? Do tell?

Millwall have played Tottenham once in the last 35 years, and there wasn't a riot.

stomachamelon · 19/10/2025 23:17

They are in the top ten of worse clubs and disorder is a regular occurrence. It is just excepted as.. well… millwall.

ultras from all clubs fight each other in pre arranged meetings.

I wonder if those in their knicker wetting excitement read that article about the game in Israel. It was a derby (flashpoint as it is here) and five arrests were made. Not whole scale hooliganism and mostly blamed on the other clubs refusal to disperse.
