Fans banned from match

WTAF?!

https://news.sky.com/story/maccabi-tel-aviv-fans-will-not-be-allowed-to-attend-aston-villa-match-amid-safety-concerns-13451240

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans banned due to safety concerns AGAINST them?

Since when is it ok to victim blame and penalise people who have done nothing wrong? Surely the right course of action would be either to ban ALL fans of both sides or better police the event?

So are Jews not welcome at sports games now? Because some people are racist bullies?

I genuinely can’t believe this has been allowed. Where does it end? Can Jews no longer safely access society? What if the risk is high elsewhere, will they be banned then?

What do you think? AIBU to think this is discriminatory and a slippery slope?

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be allowed to attend Aston Villa match amid safety concerns

Police say the decision is based partly on what happened in Amsterdam last year, when Israeli fans attending a match against Ajax were targets of antisemitic attacks.

From what? Have there been any threats against them? The police are paid to control these situations. Plus it's not the people of Birminghsm who need protecting. The police are basically saying they cant protect the Tel Aviv fans from mob rule. No community can or should dictate who is allowed to visit the UK. What has our country come to that we are allowing ths??

Ask the Amsterdam authorities.
Also the taxpayers should not fund security and damage caused by by these visiting thugs.

They need to stop playing the victim.

Tommy Robinson is sporting them. Says it all.

Why does everyone blame Starmer for everything?!

Starmer recognised the 2 states and it spoke volumes. Now look at the mess he's caused.

Don’t be silly.

We have football matches up and down the country. Every week. Police policing them. As they should. Unfortunately our police have to be involved in lots of unnecessary shit. Thats the nature of the beast. And for the millionth time - they've been banned because the police have said they cant guarantee their protection because of the make up of the area surrounding Villa Park...

Can you just reflect on that - can’t guarantee their ‘protection’

Wow

I never thought I would see the day someone would say this about a place in England. It’s an outage. Everyone should be safe here for Christ sake.

@CrossChecking

Let's hope if Macabi fans are let in Israel doesn't become a threat to National security in the UK too, such worrying times all round really

When thuggish fans of a British club cause violence abroad, do you think it’s reasonable for that country to frame it as a threat by the UK to their national security?

That's how it's been positioned. Even Starmer has acknowledged this by stating following the ban, which he disagrees with, that anti semitism should not be allowed.

They come with violent intentions to antagonize.
They did the same in the Netherlands.
They need to stop playing the victim card.

Victims indeed, more like a bunch of nasty hooligans who have Tommy Robinson as a supporter.

Well they would be a lot safer if they didn't go round boasting about killing children, I have no sympathy for anyone who gets beaten up after doing that.

The job of the Netherlands National Security is to ensure the security of their citizens, not to 'be fair', their intelligence identified Israel as a foreign threat. They weren't named as a threat because of their fans behaviour, it was their spreading of disinformation that put Dutch citizens at risk that helped put them there.

Clavinova · 19/10/2025 11:30

CrossChecking · 18/10/2025 23:15

It was months and months after Amsterdam that the security services moved them to the 'Threat to National security' for spreading disinformation, it's important to note too that it was was disinformation not misinformation. Disinformation is deliberately intended to mislead—intentionally misstating the facts. What they said can't possibly have been true if they were misstating the facts in a attempt to deliberately mislead. Security services cited disinformation campaigns that endangered the lives of Dutch citizens as one of the reasons.

I will trust that the Dutch security services are well able to investigate what happened and if they say that Israel were deliberately spreading disinformation that endangered the lives of Dutch citizens then it seems highly unlikely that what they were spreading was in fact true.

Edited

I've just had a quick look at the Dutch report you refer to and couldn't actually see the word disinformation in the paragraph specific to Israel/the match in Amsterdam? Rather it states "unusual" and "undesirable".

(Examples relating to China, Russia and Iran do refer to disinformation)

Israeli attempt to influence Dutch politics and society.

Israel is also seeking to influence political and public opinion in other countries, including the Netherlands. This is illustrated by the dissemination of a report by the Israeli Ministry for Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism, in response to the public disturbances surrounding the football match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv in November 2024. The report was not shared with the Dutch government through official channels; instead it was sent directly to specific politicians and journalists. The Dutch Minister of Justice and Security and the Minister of Foreign Affairs described this decision as unusual and, given the possible negative consequences for people in the Netherlands, undesirable. The individuals mentioned in the report could be subjected to intimidation or threats, or in the worst-case scenario, physical violence.

@Clavinovai have pointed that out before but unfortunately that’s not the spin they want it to be.

@Simplestars twice you have used the word ‘ victim’ which is a trope when you keep saying it over and over regarding this event. It’s about fairness and all clubs being treated the same. Also no where can I find that TR is a Maccabi Tel AViv fan but that’s not what you mean is it?

@Alittlefeedbackwouldbeniceneither of the things you posted at 08.48 are true. There was lots of evidence on telegram etc that this was a planned attack as they weren’t Ajax fans. Ajax is a Jewish club. Those that were identified taking ONE flag down could be banned from travelling.

You are now posting DISINFORMATION. There were numerous arrests and people went to prison in the Netherlands for what happened aimed at those fans. I don’t know why fact is bothering you so much.

Trying to defend violent thugs which is what these fans are under the guise of antisemitism.

That's is shameful and desperate.

Ah, and suddenly Tommy Robinson’s name is being thrown into the mix. Desperate much? Please don’t suggest this opposition against the decision is TR lead. It really isn’t. He said he doesn’t agree with the decision. Neither does Starmer, so does that mean Starmer is now a TR supporter because he agrees with him?? Let’s stick to facts. The authorities have suggested the ban is due to the danger presented to the visiting fans. The ban hasn’t been introduced to protect the Villa fans or the people of Birmingham….

steamingin · 19/10/2025 13:57

Can you link to a source that says the ban is in place to only protect the visiting fans @Livelovebehappy

From what I've read including the statement from Villa suggests the ban is in place to also protect the locals and to prevent trouble outside the ground which could equally be from the visiting fans:

"West Midlands Police have advised the SAG that they have public safety concerns outside the stadium bowl and the ability to deal with any potential protests on the night.
"The club are in continuous dialogue with Maccabi Tel Aviv and the local authorities throughout this ongoing process, with the safety of supporters attending the match and the safety of local residents at the forefront of any decision."

Simplestars · 19/10/2025 14:06

Here you go @stomachamelon

Fans banned from match
Livelovebehappy · 19/10/2025 14:24

Violent clashes between pro-Palestinian demonstrators and the Maccabi Tel Aviv fans erupted before the game which led to more than 60 arrests, four men being handed short prison sentences and another given a community service order

See above. Just put to bed about where the blame lied in respect to Tel Avivs game against Ajax last year, against Amsterdam. Clearly Pro Palestinians turning up at the match to provoke violence, when they would not normally be there…

The Jewish Leadership Council, which works to protect British Jews, says it is "perverse that away fans should be banned from a football match because West Midlands Police can't guarantee their safety”

above response to the West Midlands admission that they couldn’t guarantee safety of Jews.

The decision is based on concerns from West Midlands Police about its ability to deal with potential protests relating the war between Israel and Gaza

again, see above. Dispelling that the ban isn’t driven solely by potential violence only coming from Tel Aviv fans..

A report from the Amsterdam mayor's office said the violence stemmed from a "toxic combination of antisemitism, hooliganism and anger" about the war between Israel and Gaza and other conflicts in the Middle East

Again, above outlines the real situation from last year’s game in Amsterdam.

Above information easily found on Sky and BBC sites. Had the ban been associated with just football hooliganism on the back of previous Tel Aviv games, do you think Starmer would have come out opposing the ban? He’s also intimated that the decision is based on anti semitism. It’s a red herring people referencing the Amsterdam game as the reason - people gaslighting to push forward their own narrative.

Simplestars · 19/10/2025 14:06

Here you go @stomachamelon

And of course this is taken out of context. He is coming out supporting the Israeli team’s right to attend the match. That quote in no way means he supports the Israeli team as opposed to supporting Villa. Starmer and other organisations are also supporting that right - does that mean they would be cheering on for Tel Aviv to beat Villa? Nope. Although I& they were, it’s no biggie. I know English football fans who would put their backing behind any team in the world beating Scotland in an international game. It’s really not unheard of in football circles. I don’t like TR btw, but it’s so silly people zoning in on what he has said, as if this is now turning into some sort of racist rhetoric against Muslims because of his ‘support’…

Oh, I see. What a shame some poor people can’t cope with complex ideas or understand that holding the same opinion as someone else on one topic doesn’t automatically mean you agree with them on other topics, or that they are your friends.

Hamas obviously support the Palestinians in the Gaza conflict. So do many other people, perhaps including you. Are you saying that means all those other people (perhaps including you) therefore all share Hamas’s other views, for instance on the desirability of rape, torture, murder and abduction?
