Maccabi Tel Aviv fans banned due to safety concerns AGAINST them?

Since when is it ok to victim blame and penalise people who have done nothing wrong? Surely the right course of action would be either to ban ALL fans of both sides or better police the event?

So are Jews not welcome at sports games now? Because some people are racist bullies?

I genuinely can’t believe this has been allowed. Where does it end? Can Jews no longer safely access society? What if the risk is high elsewhere, will they be banned then?

But that is, frankly, irrelevant? MTA fans have form for being violent and racist at matches. They have been banned on that basis.

Ajax fans were banned from Marseilles in September. Can they say this is discrimination?

Rangers and Celtic both, respectively, face blanket bans at the Old Firm. Can they say this is discrimination?

Or are you trying to suggest that because MTA fans are largely Jewish, they should be treated differently to other fans?

It is certainly not irrelevant, because the police CAN easily manage this and we all know it. It is a shit excuse for anti semitism.

It absolutely is, because in general British football fan don't go on rampages before and after matches, or start mass violence.

When they do, they face stadium bans (see, AGAIN, Celtic v Rangers). Stadium bans are a very normal punishment in football.

FWIW I’ve been to probably 100 football games up and down the country and witnessed racism in the flesh once - the stewards dealt with the people and they were arrested, and then banned for life.

The type of violence seen in Amsterdam is not usual for British football, nor should it be allowed.

Interestingly, you don’t seem to think the Old Firm bans are religious discrimination despite their rivalry being based on religious beliefs. I guess it only applies to certain religions.

It is pretty offensive to the communities in Birmingham to assume their behaviour is going to be the same or worse than the Dutch local thugs, given many ended up in prison.
Many Israeli fans ended up in hospital in Amsterdam, not the other way around.

Ummm that’s not how anyone else saw it including the Dutch PM and royal family - the police force or the witnesses. No local people ended up in hospital. The Jewish people did though. I think the prison sentences speak for themselves.

the Police are going in the reputation and previous behaviour of fans. Most people who follow football know the teams that have the violent, shitty fans and this Israeli team are one of those.

It was the Israelis that ended up in hospital - it was the local mobs that ended up in prison. I think it is crystal clear what happened in Amsterdam! Even if we didn’t have hours of footage and creditable witnesses and journalist recording it all.

We do have hours of footage and credible reports of the MTA fans holding demonstrations before the match, chanting racist slogans all through the match, and then after the match attacking taxi drivers, scaling properties to tear down Palestinian flags and entering building sites to steal scaffolding tubes and other equipment to use as weapons.

You just don’t want to admit that this has happened.

They can. They just don't care because it is Muslims whose death Macabi fans chant for. Little Muslim kids who Macabi fans laugh about their fellow country people killing.

This nonsense of a Jew ban which the pm is for some bizarre reason enhancing with his statement is just antisemitism, conflating all Jews with Israel and violent, racist Macabi fans. Israel and Israelis are allowed to be held to account for their actions, that sint antisemitism. Whether that is sanctions for war crimes or bans from football matches because they can't be let near Muslims or a Palestinian flag without kicking off because of their hatred.

I have ZERO sympathy for hooligans, regardless of who ‘started’ it or not. It needs to be stamped out of the sport entirely - and the decision whether or not to ban certain fans from certain matches should lie with the people who are going to have to manage the unrest in the day. Not a politician.

You’re the one who’s cherry picking facts left and right. I’ve not once said I think the actions of the taxi drivers or Amsterdam citizens was correct - those who were prosecuted faced the consequences of their actions.

And then being flown out of the country ASAP before they could be held accountable for their actions. The poor traumatised souls then celebrated in Ben Gurion on landing with more racist chants.

There is a reason the Netherlands have declared Israel to be a threat to National security and their disinformation campaign that occurred after the clashes that followed the football match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv is part of that.
