Fans banned from match

WTAF?!

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans banned due to safety concerns AGAINST them?

Since when is it ok to victim blame and penalise people who have done nothing wrong? Surely the right course of action would be either to ban ALL fans of both sides or better police the event?

So are Jews not welcome at sports games now? Because some people are racist bullies?

I genuinely can’t believe this has been allowed. Where does it end? Can Jews no longer safely access society? What if the risk is high elsewhere, will they be banned then?

What do you think? AIBU to think this is discriminatory and a slippery slope?

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be allowed to attend Aston Villa match amid safety concerns

Police say the decision is based partly on what happened in Amsterdam last year, when Israeli fans attending a match against Ajax were targets of antisemitic attacks.

I knew life under Starmer would be grim, but the UK banning Jews from watching sport, because the police would be unable to keep them safe from potentially violent protesters wasn't on my bingo card.

Maybe the government could work with local community leaders in Birmingham and organise some kind concentrated zone where Jews can be kept safe away from the locals. Maybe use some barbed wire, guard towers, perhaps provide some onsite accommodation, give the Jewish fans a little symbol to wear so the police know who to "keep safe".

Teachers forced into hiding, autistic kids bullied, women banned from participating in a fun run, Jews banned from watching football. I wonder who is next to be sacrificed to appease hard-line islamist fuckwits.

It’s hardly Starmer, he was the first to say it was out of order and needs reversing. Why does everyone blame Starmer for everything?!

Starmer recognised the 2 states and it spoke volumes. Now look at the mess he's caused.

Because hes the Prime Minster FFS.

Unfortunately the left (those in positions of authority and MP’s and many others) have pushed for this,
People(voters) didn’t before now realise the extent of the damage done by the left and to ordinary people’s lives in this country when a bias is shown in favour of certain groups and against others that are innocent and not of those select groups.
When a country goes so far left that it affects more and more people in a negative manner, then the only way is a push back by leaning to the right.
That is why Reform is so popular and becoming more popular by the day (except on MN but that’s just a dwindling left echo chamber).
The multi cultural experiment has failed.Diversity is not our strength any more.

When has the UK been left? The conservatives weren’t left and look what a shit show they made.

Cutting public services makes the public (especially working class and vulnerable people) feel hard done by - quite rightly. This is why people are angry. Not because of Labour who have been in power for 5 minutes.

Im all for making points but let’s not completely lie and blame decades of conservative policy on labour.

Labour is part of this. You can also see it in the large increase in Reform since the GE. A lot of the tension has increased since then.

It means he can unmake it, and tell the police to do their job, like go and immediately arrest that imam for hate speech and give him the same judge Lucy Connelly got.
Labour spent decades courting islamists sinking as low as trading rapes for votes, so im not holding out much hope of Starmer taking a stance against religous leaders preaching death to football fans.

sunflower1022 · 17/10/2025 18:03

I’ll mention again what I said on a previous thread; I read a great column the other day about how in my home country (Germany) the biggest threat for the Jewish community does not come from the far right (I am by no means pretending you don’t get the ultra far right who hate Jews too) but from the Muslim community. And the left. Their ever so useful idiots.

People can deny it until the cows come home, wail that Islam is the ‘religion of peace’, call me a racist and/ or bigot.

I am past caring.

Lindos1 · 17/10/2025 18:15

IMO- your post perfectly encapsulates the situation.

The same has happened to Russia.

And the same happened to South Africa during apartheid.

Because the cabinet knew about this a week ago, because we know there has been a wave of antisemitism around the protests and he’s done fuck all (I have no problem with protests but if you are spewing racism you should be arrested).

Bringemout · 17/10/2025 18:25

Aphrodite89 · 17/10/2025 12:01

It's not about 'fairness', it's about protecting the public from a group of fans who have a recent track record of racist violence when their team plays away in European competitions.

Just last season Maccabi Tel-Aviv fans attacked a man in Athens because he was an Arab and went on the rampage in Amsterdam.

Again the ban is to protect the Israelis (erm Jews lets be honest) not to protect people in Birmingham.

EasternStandard · 17/10/2025 18:27

LakieLady · 17/10/2025 18:16

And the same happened to South Africa during apartheid.

So the motivation for you is this?

Stealth18 · 17/10/2025 18:32

Lucyccfc68 · 17/10/2025 14:06

Doesn’t matter ‘who’ banned them.

The original comment tried to make out that the Maccabi fans are the only ones this has ever happened to.

Happens regularly in Europe when fans/hooligans can’t/don’t behave.

The big difference with all the other cases mentioned is that those were bans imposed on teams as punishment for their fans behaviour. The MTA ban is due to the police believing they can’t stop them being attacked. By the police’s own admission they are suggesting the local residents and other pro-Palestinian supporters are the risk that needs to be contained.

Bringemout · 17/10/2025 18:38

eatfigs · 17/10/2025 08:28

It's not a red herring as football matches are one of the few occasions when large groups of men congregate, which is always going to be an increased risk even without additional factors.

I think it’s about Jews being in a predominantly muslim area. The attacks on Israelis were planned weeks in advance. Thats what came out in court. A whatsapp group planning attacks on Jews. Every single person convicted was a muslim, the vast majority arrested were Muslim not Israeli.

We’ve basically got to a point where your religion will dictate how you are policed. This is extremely concerning for every single one of us regarding of whther you are muslim or not. If you are getting the benefit from this today you may find you are having a shit time of it in 20 years, the law must be blind, your ethnicity or religion should have zero baring on how you are policed.

Mimph · 17/10/2025 18:38

I am glad that this issue is being revisited, I understand the police concerns for safety.

When those in support of Palestine march, those who want to have a counter march are advised not to, however it is never seems to be the same the other way round. I fully understand the police concern. My view is that there is huge antisemitism whilst people are friightend of upsetting the muslim faith. Both sides need to be treated the same which is not the case and that in my view is why the issue is so important and threatens our democracy

sunflower1022 · 17/10/2025 18:39

Whatever your viewpoint, surely nobody can deny that antisemitism is rife in the UK.

In 2025.

Let that sink in.

So much for ‘Never again’

Anyahyacinth · 17/10/2025 18:41

Lindos1 · 17/10/2025 07:19

MP Ayoub Khan said there is concern about fans coming into 'our area'.
'Our area'. WTF

He's the MP how else do you want him to identify his patch? "My constituency" a possesive term would be 100% normal. Is this racism showing?

Riiiigghhtttt… some people can literally blame him for anything, including it seems the decades long Arab-Israeli conflict!
What about Yemen, that one of his too??

Incorrect. The police have said it is also the previous violence in Amsterdam was also a factor.

Do you not remember when they also booed and jeered during the one minute silence in Valencia for the Spanish flood victims.

They are vile.

Reform are a direct response to the public giving up on public sector services and the lack of care and provision for people in this country. The services that conservatives stripped bare.

Its nothing to do with Labour.
