Fans banned from match

WTAF?!

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans banned due to safety concerns AGAINST them?

Since when is it ok to victim blame and penalise people who have done nothing wrong? Surely the right course of action would be either to ban ALL fans of both sides or better police the event?

So are Jews not welcome at sports games now? Because some people are racist bullies?

I genuinely can’t believe this has been allowed. Where does it end? Can Jews no longer safely access society? What if the risk is high elsewhere, will they be banned then?

What do you think? AIBU to think this is discriminatory and a slippery slope?

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be allowed to attend Aston Villa match amid safety concerns

Police say the decision is based partly on what happened in Amsterdam last year, when Israeli fans attending a match against Ajax were targets of antisemitic attacks.

Can we just ban football?

It is the only sport which seems to require fans to be segregated and vast numbers of police to be deployed to keep the peace. Other sports have big events without the need for such measures.

Reform are a direct response to the public giving up on public sector services and the lack of care and provision for people in this country. The services that conservatives stripped bare.

Its nothing to do with Labour.

I don’t think so. There’s so much anger and Starmer is very disliked. You might not feel it but many do.

It had everything to do with Labour! They haven’t addressed a single issue of the British people. Uncontrollable immigration, lack of housing, sinking economy. All the reasons reform are racing ahead

Incorrect. The police have said it is also the previous violence in Amsterdam was also a factor.

Do you not remember when they also booed and jeered during the one minute silence in Valencia for the Spanish flood victims.

They are vile.

Posters here know all of this. The know macabi fans are racist and trouble making, they just don't actually care, seemingly because the majority of them are Israeli Jews and the racism is directed primarily towards Muslims.

Of course, there’s so much on this. Polling, commentary, focus groups, even chanting at sporting matches. It’s a lot to filter out to say nothing to do with Labour.

Yes! Especially given they have been in government now for 15 months! At what point exactly are they going to accept accountability?

This is not about defending racist hooligans. This is about the police admitting they do not the capability to prevent islamo nutcases attacking people going to a sporting event.
If the police cant defend a few thousand football fans, what possible chance do they have of protecting the other 65 million(ish) of us from the same people when they decide its not just Jews that they hate, but women/gays/non believers or whatever else their hate preachers tell them is haram this week.
We need to start having vigorous push back against the idea that Islam alone deserves some special treatment just because its adherents can brook no criticism without resorting to murderous anger.
Its ludicrous that we in the west are even in the position of allowing a centuries old conflict, between 2 variations of the same religion, over a patch of land 1000's of miles away, to be fought out on the streets of our cities.
Utterly pathetic.

The commentator completely ignores the fact that at least 10 Dutch residents have already been convicted for their role in the violence/disorder, most receiving short prison sentences.

PevenseygirlQQ · 17/10/2025 21:30

I think all these things can be true here

  1. Maccabi has been banned because they have a reputation for being nasty violent racist thugs. They are incredibly racist to the arab and black communities. Banning them keeps locals/business and the community safe
  2. There are some anti-semitic disgusting people in the area/the uk who will purposefully look for trouble with the Israeli fans, so banning keeps the Israeli fans safe.
  3. The situation between Palestine and Israel, is a factor in this there are obviously tensions around this in the UK, and if it was not happening I imagine things would be different.
Wednesdayschild87 · 17/10/2025 21:31

ColadhSamh · 16/10/2025 20:45

Well done Aston Villa. Macabi Tel Aviv fans terrorised local people in Amsterdam in Nov 24. when they played Ajax. They targeted Arab taxi drivers and beat them up, went through Arab/Asian districts shouting racist slogans at the communities and harassing women.
They are well known thugs throughout the football world.

Seriously? Where is your proof of this?

Wednesdayschild87 · 17/10/2025 21:37

LakieLady · 17/10/2025 08:48

My DB, who was a "football casual" back in the '80s, likened the Maccabi fans to Millwall too.

And this decision won't have been taken lightly. The advisory group for my local club included the fire brigade, ambulance service, a local authority buildings person and a senior legal officer, as well as the club, and they all had an equal say in what was safe and reasonable. I very much doubt that the police have made this decision unilaterally.

So If they are “like Milwall” as you say, do you think the same ban should be applied to all Milwall fans going to away games?

Wednesdayschild87 · 17/10/2025 21:47

lets hope that us lovely smug middle class people won’t be attacked and driven out of our homes, no
it wont be us, it’ll be our children. Just remember that when you regale your children with stories of how you marched for Gaza.

KeepYaHeadUp · 17/10/2025 22:02

a section of their fans are notoriously violent. They were involved in riots in Amsterdam not long ago. The police assessed the risk, as they do with any big football match, and made the (not unheard of before) decision not to allow fans to attend.

Do you not think that they might not like them them because they call for their deaths rather than the fact that they are Jewish? Surely you don't like these people who chant 'Death to Arabs', make monkey noises at black people and jeer at the killing of 1000s of kids either? Who would like them, who would want them running riot on their streets?

What's ludicrous is people acting like some foreign racists who call for the deaths of a large group of people and laugh about the actual deaths of kids being banned from a football match is some kind of human rights breach.

No one gave a shit when Legia fans were banned from Aston villa just a few years ago on the advice of police but suddenly everyone cares when it's violent Israeli racists who are banned? Something doesn't add up here.

It’s a disgrace. Nothing to do with “hooliganism” from some Tel Aviv fans at a football match. As a country we are well-used to policing them, and the fact we choose not to touch this one speaks volumes about the state of the local area. It’s clear this is a political decision, petitioned by an arrogant sectarian MP who’s talked about nothing but Gaza since he was elected. Fuck off.

We are not used to policing thousands of hate filled foreign fans running amok on the streets as most home grown football fans these days are fat middle aged men who couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag or run for a bus, and just want a few pints and a good match, not a race riot.

We don't want any groups of fans coming to watch football here who cause trouble and attract trouble, that's the long and short of it. They can fuck right off.

The issue I think you will find is not the ‘foreign’ football fans, but keeping them safe!

You seem confused.

We now have an anti semitism issue in some small parts of the UK (not all) where the demographic is Muslim and anti Israel. The local community are hostile to Jewish people to their shame. As a country we have never been like this, we welcome all races. Just sadly some do not share the same values.

IF the match goes ahead, it will have to be heavily policed, and our visitors cared for and looked after.

You can’t discriminate, by law, all fans are welcome or none.

Quite frankly if the area has become so toxic and dangerous, maybe it’s time to suspend all fixtures until they have returned to the behaviour of a civilised society again.

We will not stand for medieval religious turf wars here, we are a tolerant and progressive, democratic nation - we have laws around discrimination and anti semitism that will be used robustly.

Didn't you read any of the thread about what happened in Amsterdam? Birmingham like Amsterdam is one of the most open minded cities in the world but people running round making monkey chants at black people obviously goes down like a lead balloon.

I'd be banning more fans coming to this country if it were up to me. Black players on loads of teams and fans have had loads of unacceptable abuse on their travels around Europe. UEFA should be paying more than lip service to racism.
