Fans banned from match

WTAF?!

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans banned due to safety concerns AGAINST them?

Since when is it ok to victim blame and penalise people who have done nothing wrong? Surely the right course of action would be either to ban ALL fans of both sides or better police the event?

So are Jews not welcome at sports games now? Because some people are racist bullies?

I genuinely can’t believe this has been allowed. Where does it end? Can Jews no longer safely access society? What if the risk is high elsewhere, will they be banned then?

What do you think? AIBU to think this is discriminatory and a slippery slope?

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be allowed to attend Aston Villa match amid safety concerns

Police say the decision is based partly on what happened in Amsterdam last year, when Israeli fans attending a match against Ajax were targets of antisemitic attacks.

Israelis shouldn’t be playing - just as South African sports people suffered the consequences of their regimes political
policies.
its not just the safety of the Israel
fans either - its the safety of all fans. The idea that only one side will behave in a politically motivated way is ridiculous

Mimph · 17/10/2025 07:16

some fans - doesn’t mean we ban all just the same as some other football teams.

That has happened many, many times in football.
i support Liverpool, I should know

It is a disgrace. England cannot police its own streets and should be stripped of the right to host any European games. Let them be played in a neutral third location, or boot England out of the competition.

The ones that need to be booted out are Israel teams, like Russia.

When people who work in the area of war crimes and genocide and are far smarter than you and I say it is genocide, it’s genocide.

Like when people who work in the area of sex and gender and are far smarter than you say transwomen are women so it must be true? You don’t seem to understand how people create their own little specialisms and then declare themselves experts whom we must all believe!

This happened.

The first incidents were reported on Wednesday evening, the day before the match. Police say Maccabi fans tore a Palestinian flag down from the facade of a building and burned it, shouted “fuck you, Palestine”, and vandalised a taxi.

Verified social media videos show Maccabi fans setting off flares and fireworks and chanting in Hebrew “olé, olé, let the IDF [Israel Defense Forces] win, we will fuck the Arabs”. The Dutch national broadcaster NOS, other local media outlets and Amsterdam city hall officials also reported that fans chanted that there were “no children” left in Gaza.

BTW, away fan bans are common.

there’s a blanket ban on away fans at the old firm - I don’t see either side crying religious discrimination there.

West Ham have threatened to ban away fans after a “criminal act” at their game against Chelsea.

England have frequently played games where their opposition have faced stadium bans for their fans after racist behaviour

Heysel happened and English teams were banned from Europe for a long time.

this isn’t some new and unusual thing. This is called the consequences of their actions.

Again, can you answer me?

do you think the MTA have a right to travel to other countries and smash them up, just because of their heritage?

We know what happened. The Dutch king and PM were very clear it was pure anti semitism and a witch hunt in Amsterdam. It was organised crime.

The police are right to flag that they are concerned the same thing will happen here. So the match must be called off.

Leadonmacduffs · 17/10/2025 07:32

Bans on away fans are common and there is NO WAY the Maccabi fans are going to behave. Zero.

They don’t want to read it Eastern. They are on here corrupting the truth quite deliberately.

I support this because it's a curfew on men, and in general we need more of these, not fewer.

In many areas women are afraid to walk the streets at night and it's all the fault of men.

if Israel wanted to commit genicude the war would have been over 8th Oct.

idiots who believe this genocide crap

but wait, they don’t care about Hamas executing its own people, or throwing gays off buildings or terrorising its own people, or having stolen $bns of aid over the last 30 years, or not allowing Israeli aid through, or the fact they send rockets into Israel daily and slaughtered with huge barbarity thousands of Israel’s on Oct 7th or that ‘innocent’ Palestinians were celebrating on the streets the bodies of young Israeli woman …… oh and Hamas only still say they’ll only stop with the annihilation of Israel….

makes me sick that people protest for this side. Palestinian state won’t be a nice peace loving one - it will be an Islamist fundamentalist one .

Stealth18 · 17/10/2025 07:35

eatfigs · 17/10/2025 07:26

I mean the local community who aren't involved in this at all other than happening to live in an area where groups of men will likely spend their day fighting each other and smashing the place up.

The locals aren’t innocent bystanders. They are the ones who said they had an issue with MTA fans on ethical grounds. That’s what their petition was about. It also included a thinly veiled threat against the Israeli fans were they to attend.

You clearly have never been to Aston/Witton if you think that fans will spend all day disrupting the locals. It’s not an area that fans and certainly not away fans congregate in. Everyone stays in the city centre until near kick off.

The area is just about as lacking in diversity as imaginable. The MP spends more time talking about Gaza and Palestine than he does about anything linked to the UK.

You’re the one corrupting the truth. The bare facts of it are the MTA fans arrived in Amsterdam, organised “demonstrations” where they shouted racist slogans, chanted racist slogans during the match, and after the match they continued on their racist, violent rampage. The city of Amsterdam responded.

Nestingbirds · 17/10/2025 07:35

You are twisting the narrative and you know it.

Why don’t you want the match called off? If you are so worried?

WellYouWereMythTaken · 17/10/2025 07:36

Were they the same club whose fans were rampaging in Amsterdam not so long ago, and then complained when they were called out on their hooliganism? If so it’s no wonder they’ve been banned. It’s a natural consequence to that behaviour.

SunnySideDeepDown · 17/10/2025 07:36

BerryTwister · 16/10/2025 22:52

@Livelovebehappy the situation here is that it’s a big game. These Europa League games always are. They’re evening matches too, so there’s a big build up, and lots of drinking to be done beforehand.

The people who make these decisions (not Aston Villa FC) have essentially risk assessed the situation. They’ve got a large local Muslim population, some of whom are no doubt violent thugs who love nothing more than a good fight. And they’ve got a visiting team with a fan base that is known to be violent, destructive, and anti Muslim.

In the middle of this they’ve got peaceful locals who have no opinion either way, may not even care about football, and just want to go about their day as usual. And they’ve also got police who need to be dealing with other crimes across the city that day. They’ve got local businesses who don’t want riots on the streets and their windows broken.

Of course the decision might be different if it wasn’t for the Isreal Palestine conflict, because although there’d be some fighting and thuggery, it would be more of the “usual” football stuff. Less emotionally charged than it is now. But that doesn’t make the decision antisemitic. It’s a sensible logical decision made to avoid more conflict.

The Tel Aviv team will have plenty of home games in the tournament, so they won’t go short of football.

If all that is true - which I believe by the way - then why isn’t the reasonable decision to bad ALL fans made? No fans = no risk, damage and most importantly no risk of Jews feeling discriminated against.

This is a critical moment in history where decisions today affect the future safety of Jews and Muslims in the future. Tensions are always high and these kind of decisions do nothing but promote antisemitism. I understand the multitude of risks at the match, so just ban all fans!

Posters keep coming back to “Jews aren’t banned, Maccabi fans are”.

Right… so if a group of orthodox Jewish men (ie visibly Jewish) went to the football match in Birmingham, would they feel safe? Would they be safe?

This IS about Jews and banning the Israeli team sends a strong message.

We need to be promoting peace now. Respecting Jews and Muslims. Promoting harmony and moving forwards to ensure all innocent civilians in every country are protected from harm.

This division is very dangerous and very telling.
