Fans banned from match

WTAF?!

https://news.sky.com/story/maccabi-tel-aviv-fans-will-not-be-allowed-to-attend-aston-villa-match-amid-safety-concerns-13451240

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans banned due to safety concerns AGAINST them?

Since when is it ok to victim blame and penalise people who have done nothing wrong? Surely the right course of action would be either to ban ALL fans of both sides or better police the event?

So are Jews not welcome at sports games now? Because some people are racist bullies?

I genuinely can’t believe this has been allowed. Where does it end? Can Jews no longer safely access society? What if the risk is high elsewhere, will they be banned then?

What do you think? AIBU to think this is discriminatory and a slippery slope?

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be allowed to attend Aston Villa match amid safety concerns

Police say the decision is based partly on what happened in Amsterdam last year, when Israeli fans attending a match against Ajax were targets of antisemitic attacks.

It gives some of you not pause to see Muslim MP’s campaigning to make no go areas in the UK for Jewish fans? To celebrate turning a football fixture into an ideological victory parade? You’re looking to give anti semitism a veneer of respectability.

No looking at this thread no pause at all. Although at least the voting is majority yanbu.

Why are you distorting the facts? MTA fans began the violence days before the football match. They stole equipment from building sites to use as weapons. They went through the streets chanting racist slogans. Why are you justifying this behaviour? Does them being Jewish mean they’re allowed to come to other countries and act like racist thugs?

Stop lying. The anti semisirm on here is off the scale.

The match needs to be called off.

Nope they’re being banned because they’re a volatile bunch.

Nope, not what’s being reported.

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans have a nasty reputation as violent 'ultras' whose racist chants against Arabs at games in Israel (and monkey chants against black players) is common.

Outspoken supporters of genocide committing nations should be boycotted in sport culture and commerce. I’m glad. You cannot backtrack support of a genocide.

How exactly do you know that the football fans who would have attended the game are "outspoken supporters of genocide committing nations"? And if that is the reason they are being banned, why did Aston Villa say "West Midlands Police have advised the SAG that they have public safety concerns [about] outside the stadium bowl and the ability to deal with any potential protests on the night."?

God forbid some of us think that being Israeli isn’t a ticket to behaving however you want to.

if MTA had been reasonable when they’d visited other countries I’d say this was wrong. But as it goes they’ve been violent in other places and this is what’s needed to ensure the local community is safe.

as it goes, they’re shit anyway. I’m sure it’s not too much of an imposition to not fly halfway across the world to watch your team get battered.

Not fact.

When people who work in the area of war crimes and genocide and are far smarter than you and I say it is genocide, it’s genocide.

Again please read what the police have said. They confirmed they can’t guarantee the MTA fans safety due to the risk posed by locals and other rent a mob agitators. The decision is a disgrace and will simply serve to widen division in the UK. The next GE is going blow the roof off everything and the ones to blame are the people making these sort of decisions.

Because the MTA fans are racist thugs.

So let’s cancel the match. Agreed.

Birmingham can not be trusted to manage football games safely clearly.

Cancelling the match doesn't make sense as this isn't an issue with the players.

the slippery slope fallacy invalidates your entire argument.

can you answer my question? Why do you think these fans have a right to be violent just because of where they’re born?

SunnySideDeepDown · 16/10/2025 20:44

I didn’t say it wasn’t genocide. I abhor what’s been going on BOTH sides, awful. But you can’t compare Russia and Israel, the wars started for completely different reasons.

I really despair of people who still think the “war” started on Oct 7 2023. NO! The genocide started in 1948 and the Palestinians have been suffering that whole time since. Resistance against oppressors is allowed as part of international law.

Because the MTA fans are racist thugs.

They are just football fans, that happen to be Jewish, the issue here is the local people and the witch hunts. It should be cancelled. This is not the way we run a civil society. It is outrageous.

It is a disgrace. England cannot police its own streets and should be stripped of the right to host any European games. Let them be played in a neutral third location, or boot England out of the competition.

“Just football fans”

I’ve been to multiple football matches and never witnessed fans afterwards going though the city, stealing items from building sites to use as weapons, organising demonstrations beforehand shouting racist slogans, etc etc.

I must be going to different football games to how you imagine them to be!

You mean to stop the local
community attacking the MYA fans? Have you ever visited the areas around Villa Park?

I mean the local community who aren't involved in this at all other than happening to live in an area where groups of men will likely spend their day fighting each other and smashing the place up.

That description applies to many Eastern European club sides none of whom have been banned from attending games in the UK.

Can you show me the last time that Easter European fans organised demonstrations beforehand the game, shouted racist slogans all match, and then went on a violent rampage after the game?

EasternStandard · 17/10/2025 07:25

No she’s provided articles covering what happened.

This happened.

The first incidents were reported on Wednesday evening, the day before the match. Police say Maccabi fans tore a Palestinian flag down from the facade of a building and burned it, shouted “fuck you, Palestine”, and vandalised a taxi.

Verified social media videos show Maccabi fans setting off flares and fireworks and chanting in Hebrew “olé, olé, let the IDF [Israel Defense Forces] win, we will fuck the Arabs”. The Dutch national broadcaster NOS, other local media outlets and Amsterdam city hall officials also reported that fans chanted that there were “no children” left in Gaza.

I completely agree.

Unless the police can guarantee the safety of ALL fans we must cancel all fixtures in areas that are unsafe.

We can not use discrimination or racism as tool to blame the victims of overt racism.

The local people can not have football games unless they are capable of behaving respectfully.
