Fans banned from match

1000 replies

SunnySideDeepDown · 16/10/2025 20:19

WTAF?!

https://news.sky.com/story/maccabi-tel-aviv-fans-will-not-be-allowed-to-attend-aston-villa-match-amid-safety-concerns-13451240

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans banned due to safety concerns AGAINST them?

Since when is it ok to victim blame and penalise people who have done nothing wrong? Surely the right course of action would be either to ban ALL fans of both sides or better police the event?

So are Jews not welcome at sports games now? Because some people are racist bullies?

I genuinely can’t believe this has been allowed. Where does it end? Can Jews no longer safely access society? What if the risk is high elsewhere, will they be banned then?

What do you think? AIBU to think this is discriminatory and a slippery slope?

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be allowed to attend Aston Villa match amid safety concerns

Police say the decision is based partly on what happened in Amsterdam last year, when Israeli fans attending a match against Ajax were targets of antisemitic attacks.

Your own article points out it was antisemitism!

It’s being said to be antisemitism doesn’t make it so. Any slight criticism of Israel is deemed antisemitism these days.

They have been banned in the past, actually - take Heysel as an example. European teams regularly have fans banned for racism, homophobia or other such behaviour. The MTA fans cannot be trusted after their day out in Amsterdam.

The violence in Amsterdam was prompted by the demos not the fans. I find it is very strange that it is the demonstrators who purport to support free speech are the ones who in effect stop the freedom of others.

It was in fact an anti semitic witch hunt and involved rescue flights sent in to rescue 2000 Jewish fans. The Dutch government were beyond mortified.

You are deliberately posting misinformation on here. How about some actual fucking facts:

I’m not lying.
“ first incidents were reported on Wednesday evening, the day before the match. Police say Maccabi fans tore a Palestinian flag down from the facade of a building and burned it, shouted “fuck you, Palestine”, and vandalised a taxi.
After a radio callout a number of taxi drivers converged on a casino on the nearby Max Euweplein, where about 400 Israeli supporters had gathered. Police dispersed the taxi drivers and escorted supporters out of the casino.
Verified social media videos show Maccabi fans setting off flares and fireworks and chanting in Hebrew “olé, olé, let the IDF [Israel Defense Forces] win, we will fuck the Arabs”. The Dutch national broadcaster NOS, other local media outlets and Amsterdam city hall officials also reported that fans chanted that there were “no children” left in Gaza.”
“There were further clashes on Thursday afternoon on the central Dam Square, where a large crowd of Maccabi supporters had gathered. Police said pro-Palestine demonstrators tried to reach the square. Two arrests were made.
Maccabi supporters were filmed chanting anti-Arab slogans on their way to the Johan Cruyff Arena. Police escorted the 2,600 fans to the game and dispersed protesters defying a ban on a pro-Palestinian demonstration outside the stadium.”
“Footage has also emerged of Maccabi supporters close to Amsterdam central railway station setting off fireworks, chanting anti-Palestine slogans and taking iron scaffolding tubes and wooden planks from a building site to use as weapons. Other footage shows Maccabi fans running through the streets swinging belts.
Tensions remain: on Monday night, dozens of people carrying sticks and firecrackers set an empty tram on fire and smashed its windows in western Amsterdam. Footage showed many people on the square throwing fireworks, poles and wooden pallets.”

MTA fans were hooligans, realised Amsterdam wouldn’t stand for that shit, and cried antisemitism to make sure they were protected. If I were Jewish I’d be horrified that this type of thing occurred.

Israeli football fans and the violence in Amsterdam: what we know

It’s being said to be antisemitism doesn’t make it so. Any slight criticism of Israel is deemed antisemitism these days.

The disgusting violence and threats of an antisemitic mob from Birmingham should mean they are all locked up, and charged by the police or the match is cancelled.

We will not stand for antisemitism in this country do you hear me? It is not going to happen.

NCReceptor · 17/10/2025 07:13

It gives some of you not pause to see Muslim MP’s campaigning to make no go areas in the UK for Jewish fans? To celebrate turning a football fixture into an ideological victory parade? You’re looking to give anti semitism a veneer of respectability.

They haven’t banned Jewish fans, they’ve banned violent MTA fans. Jewish Villa fans are still free to attend (as are any Jewish fans who managed to get a ticket!).

The arrogance and dumbing down in your responses is breathtaking. You have been repeatedly told why the fans have been banned yet continue to argue against the banning.
The only conclusion that can be deduced from your responses is that you fully support the violent racist thugs who terrorise communities when they travel to away matched. They have a long standing and well deserved reputation.

The reports ARENT saying it’s purely to do with the Maccabi fans behaviour. They’re saying it’s also after the synagogue attack two weeks ago and to protect the Jewish community and due to protesters in Birmingham.

It might help if you actually read the news before commenting and making personal attacks on me. I’m not arrogant or dumb, thank you. The way you’re speaking to me is disproportionate and comes across unnecessarily rude.

Reading between the lines it’s very clear the MTA fans cannot be trusted and therefore their safety cannot be guaranteed.

Victim blaming again. The police and MP both stated they couldn’t guarantee the safety of the MTA fans against potential violence from locals and other pro-Palestinian agitators.

eatfigs · 17/10/2025 07:18

Keep in mind this is being done for the benefit of the local community. No-one wants roving gangs of men brawling in the streets of Birmingham, whatever the reason. It's particularly intimidating for women.

MTA aren’t the victims. They smashed up Amsterdam. Why do you want to give them free reign to come and smash up Birmingham?

Nestingbirds · 17/10/2025 07:19

Israeli football fans were targeted, hounded, had cars rammed at them, were missing in some cases by an organised Muslim mob in Amsterdam. So much so that rescue planes were sent in, and you have the audacity to blame them???

I have no doubt they were provocative but what happened afterwards was a national disgrace.

The parallels between the two settler states, the white settler entity america, and the Jewish settler entity Israel.

The Palestinians on avoiding the fate handed to the Native americans, "We will not go into the museumWe are not the Red Indians”,

https://www.antagolist.com/p/we-will-not-go-into-the-museum

"The American settler-colonial model has served as a blueprint for other colonial powers. Its unprecedented success in establishing a settler society while marginalizing Indigenous populations is unmatched in scale. Now, Israel, in a cynical attempt to avoid scrutiny, argues that if America could do it, why can’t they?

We’ve now witnessed 14 months of the first live-streamed genocide unfolding before our eyes, as state-sponsored terror and murder reach unprecedented levels. Meanwhile, our Western governments and their propagandists lie, fund, support, and justify these atrocities. The history told by the West, from its very beginning, is a series of distorted, whitewashed, and romanticized lies.

For many Native Americans, Thanksgiving marks the beginning of their oppression, the loss of their land, and the erasure of their culture.

Witnessing a live-streamed genocide for over a year, with daily massacres landing on your phone as soon as you open your eyes in the morning, and the reality that America's past violence mirrors what Israel is currently attempting, makes Thanksgiving and its associated history feel even more nauseating to participate in.

I saw Native Americans at every anti-genocide protest I attended. I’ve seen pictures of them standing in solidarity, in other cities across America. There is a unique bond between Native Americans and Indigenous Palestinians. They understand the pain of cultural erasure, having witnessed it firsthand, while the same attempt is now being made against Palestinians. The parallels are unavoidable, especially since the erasure of Native Americans succeeded, whereas, for 76 years, Palestinians miraculously have resisted being erased:

"We are not Red Indians."

In his last interview before he died in 2004, while in a state of near confinement and exhaustion, Yasser Afarfat reflected upon his incapacity to move without the immediate threat of assassination, about the Palestinian right of return, about American elections, and his achievements. Among these achievements was the fact that "the Palestine case was the biggest problem in the world" and that Israel had "failed to wipe us out."

As a final mark of that success, he added the declarative, comparative, and final point of distinction: "We are not Red Indians."

Edited

I have noticed the eradication and enslavement of various minorities by a colonialist group across the middle east and onwards now you mention it.

At least yarrafat did well financially out of terrorism and made his daughter a billionaire.

Why are you distorting the facts? MTA fans began the violence days before the football match. They stole equipment from building sites to use as weapons. They went through the streets chanting racist slogans. Why are you justifying this behaviour? Does them being Jewish mean they’re allowed to come to other countries and act like racist thugs?

But they can. It’s just MTA fans represent a certain risk because they cannot control themselves.
