Fans banned from match

WTAF?!

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans banned due to safety concerns AGAINST them?

Since when is it ok to victim blame and penalise people who have done nothing wrong? Surely the right course of action would be either to ban ALL fans of both sides or better police the event?

So are Jews not welcome at sports games now? Because some people are racist bullies?

I genuinely can’t believe this has been allowed. Where does it end? Can Jews no longer safely access society? What if the risk is high elsewhere, will they be banned then?

What do you think? AIBU to think this is discriminatory and a slippery slope?

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be allowed to attend Aston Villa match amid safety concerns

Police say the decision is based partly on what happened in Amsterdam last year, when Israeli fans attending a match against Ajax were targets of antisemitic attacks.

Did you not read what the fans did in Amsterdam?

I think you know fuck all about football.

All English clubs were banned from European competitons for five years in the 1980s. Look it up.

As you of course know that has nothing to do with it whatsoever. The pressure from the local MP and community is all about who MTA are not what their fans might do.

If that wasn’t the case then surely there would have been other clubs visiting Villa Park who the residents would have objected to on he basis that their fan base was too volatile. Of course that has never happened.

There is a permanent undercurrent of the potential for violence from Islamic extremists if we don't do what they want.

We cannot live like this in our civilised country that is the UK.

Many of us manage not to equate Israel with Judaism. Why do you?

Judaism and Israel, or more specifically, Jerusalem, are inextricably linked. A bit like Islam and mecca. I'm sure you'd never dream of telling a Muslim that mecca is nothing to do with Islam?

Firealarm1414 · 17/10/2025 05:40

Also, to add, just last week, a concert by the band disturbed was canceled in Brussels for the same reason. The singer is Jewish and an outspoken supporter of Israel, so officials claimed that they "couldn't guarantee the safety of the event". Prepare for more of this now that the mob know it's working. Literally threaten violence and disruption and they get their way

Well done Aston Villa. Macabi Tel Aviv fans terrorised local people in Amsterdam in Nov 24. when they played Ajax. They targeted Arab taxi drivers and beat them up, went through Arab/Asian districts shouting racist slogans at the communities and harassing women.
They are well known thugs throughout the football world.

This.

There’s a hooligan element at most football matches. If they’re going to start banning fans on the basis of bringing hooligans with them, then go ahead. I’m up for that. But people are deliberately interpreting this ban as similar to this situation. It isn’t. It’s because Villa is in Birmingham where there’s a large Muslim community who have cried and stamped their feet, not wanting the Israeli fans to come into their domain. And they’ve been pandered to. I hope the security is equally stringent in preventing anyone attending the game who intends to shout abuse against the Israeli players, and that police will remove any inflammatory banners and flags.

They literally do ban fans for bringing hooligans with them. There are so many examples around Europe where fans have been banned because of previous violence. The Macabi fans are WELL KNOWN for violence. They REGULARLY chant death to Arabs - they are violent and racist. Other violent and racist fan bases get banned. So should they as you agree that hooligans should get banned!

Outspoken supporters of genocide committing nations should be boycotted in sport culture and commerce. I’m glad. You cannot backtrack support of a genocide.

Nolletimiere · 17/10/2025 05:56

Pure antisemitism.

Utterly reprehensible.

ColadhSamh · 17/10/2025 05:57

So it continues. The support ftom some posters for a violent, racist group of thugs for no other reason than the fact they are Israeli has been enlightening. The behaviour of this group has been consistent and well known over many years.
They are not the first set of 'supporters' to be banned from attending matches and will almost certainly not be the last. Yet, some seem to think they deserve a pass because they are Israeli.
The banning has nothing to do with religion and all to do with their threats, consistent racism towards black and Arab footballers, their thuggery, their clear intentions to cause as much trouble as possible, their intimidatory behaviour towards women, especially women of colour and their general behaviour. Their conduct during thd minutes silence for the Valencia flood victims was appalling.
Yet some continue to defend them. Who knew there are so many defenders of racists and thugs amongst us on here? As I stated earlier this has been enlightening. They walk amongst us.

Anonycat · 16/10/2025 22:00

If they behave badly they should be arrested. They should not be banned in case they behave badly.

Do you know anything about football?
Liverpool were rightly banned from Europe after Heisel. I am a life long Liverpool supporter, most people at that match did not behave badly, but the ban was still correct

tripleginandtonic · 17/10/2025 06:07

SunnySideDeepDown · 16/10/2025 20:44

I didn’t say it wasn’t genocide. I abhor what’s been going on BOTH sides, awful. But you can’t compare Russia and Israel, the wars started for completely different reasons.

No very similar reasons, wanting more land And trying to pretend that Oct 7th was the start of it all is very disingenuous OP.
It is relatively common in football for away fans to be banned for safety reasons

”We are still getting over the recent attack in Manchester “
Hang on I thought you were against Jews and all for the Pally hate marches.
Or am I thinking if someone else.

You know Pally is the equivalent of P the word about Pakistanis? Why are you being deliberately offensive?

bittertwisted · 17/10/2025 06:12

vivainsomnia · 17/10/2025 00:59

The reason for the ban is down to interference from the Mayor and certain communities in Birmingham who are demanding a ban based on the team being from Israel
Do tou have inside information that we are all missing? How do you know this as a fact rather than a biased statement?

these fans couldn’t give a fuck about Israel or the conflict, they like the fight
There have been pockets of football like this for decades, it’s nothing new.

Simonjt · 17/10/2025 06:19

Unfortunately a lot of Macabi fans are essentially like old school Millwall fans. If Macabi has an issue with the decision the Macabi needs to put in the work with their fan base.

Bringemout · 17/10/2025 06:22

I think it’s deeply shameful that we can’t have foreign fans because our police can’t protect them from rabid racists. It’s an embarrassment and we should be deeply concerned about the MP who whipped this shit up too.

Superhansrantowindsor · 17/10/2025 06:23

All English clubs were banned from Europe due to the actions of one clubs fans. It lasted years.

NoOneToTextWhenThePlaneLands · 17/10/2025 06:27

These are the same fans who were incredibly violent in the Netherlands. I’m not surprised they’ve been banned. After they tore up the place in Amsterdam the Israeli embassy tried to make out that they were the victims and sent “rescue” flights!!!

NoOneToTextWhenThePlaneLands · 17/10/2025 06:31

Also, Jews haven’t been banned. Macabi fans have been banned. They’re not checking which religion you are a member of as you enter the stadium.

Please can you identify another away team that has played in Birmingham with a fan base known for violence against Muslims? I can’t, but happy to be corrected.
my DH and many of his Irish and Italian catholic friends are from Birmingham, only one supports Villa.
they have no horse in this race and they all support the ban.

Mimph · 17/10/2025 06:33

I think Aston Villa should not have done this, it is in my view anti semetic, the fact they felt bold enough to take this action reflects very badly on society

It’s anti-Semitic to ban football fans with a history of violence against Muslims from a football match with a lot of Muslim fans? Would you be saying the same if macabi banned fans with a history of anti semitism from their games?

Nestingbirds · 17/10/2025 06:40

Pure and blatant anti semiotism.

If the organisers and police are so ‘concerned’ they should call the whole match off. Not victim blame the Jewish community

Starner needs to get on top of this immediately. He can not afford to show weakness at this critical point.

Jesus Christ I had no idea that anti semitism runs so deep and wide spread in some areas. Fortunately not where I live. It really needs stamping out. I am shocked and horrified. How dare they!

Victim blaming at its best.

The ban has absolutely nothing to do with any risk of violence against Muslims. The risk is Muslim and pro-Palestinian violence against the MTA fans.

Tell your friends in Birmingham to listen to what the MP was saying before and after the ban was announced and then they’ll understand things better unless of course they too are anti - Semitic.

I can’t stand Starmer but ask yourself this, why has he condemned the ban and stated it is the wrong thing to do and should be reversed?

Robert Jenrick was pilloried for his views by many yet barely a week later what he said about Birmingham has turned out to be true.

It’s actually just Maccabi fans being punished for their poor behaviour in Amsterdam. Just because they’re Jewish doesn’t mean they can go on violent rampages.

Nestingbirds · 17/10/2025 06:46

The game needs to be called off altogether.
