Breastfeeding when your child has teeth, eats solids, and can even walk/talk, is just weird. Clearly done more for the mum and not out necessity for the child.

Hate companies that charge card fees when the only way to pay is by card! Give me bank details so I can do a transfer then!

Starting a new job next month so updated data on my car insurance as miles driven is doubled and new job title. Paid £22 of which £15 is admin. When I have done it online. I’m about half way through my insurance year

I have psoriasis in my arse crack. Went to a dermatologist who diagnosed it as such and prescribed a cream with limited success, then she prescribed injections which haven't worked either. Never told anyone else, not my mum my sister or even my husband. I use the loo at work multiple times a day to scratch it. It flares up and down, but it's always there. I've been nearly suicidal over it as I cannot function with a permanently itchy arse crack. Going for a poo is an ordeal. Sometimes the itch has become consuming while driving and I'm legitimacy worried I will cause an accident.

That sounds horrendous- could steroids help? Can you go private? Please don’t be embarrassed.

I believe my parents generation are mostly responsible for destroying the country, for many reasons really. They would be classed as the baby boomer generation. They will tell you ‘live your dreams’ ‘I can if I want’ ‘it’s my time now’ ‘I deserve it…’ creating a sense of not only self importance but indulgence and entitlement. The older folk of today are worlds apart from my grandparents. Not a day goes by when I haven’t seen a 70 ish year old driving a car far too powerful for them to handle. Usually just off on a jolly to discuss the next cruise or whatever they are planning ‘on their bucket list’ because they’ll tell you they’ve ’worked all their life’ when in reality they retired in their 50s living now from their huge pensions. They are guilty of not overseeing the futures of their ‘own’ and allowing the destruction of our borders to ease their consciences. Yet even now most, with the luxury of time and wealth, still refuse accountability and continue to sing ‘we survived the war you know’ all while the ship sinks.

Looking at things from this side of the Atlantic, the USA is a low wage economy on the whole - one paycheque from bankruptcy is the famous phrase. No workers' rights, minimum wage below living wage, two weeks' annual leave, no maternity pay, no sickness benefit or any form of safety net, health care available only for people who can afford it, low educational attainment and guns. Yet all you are worried about is the fact that people in a country on the other side of the world might have enough savings to retire early and enjoy a decent quality of life. We have our own problems in the UK but I know where I would rather live, warts and all.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that the US is a low-wage economy. It is simply not true. US salaries are much, much higher than UK ones. Nurses earn $90-140k. My high-school teacher friend earns $110k a year teaching PE at high school. The national average wage in the US is $63,795. The national average wage in the UK is 37,430 pounds, which is $50,257. Our taxes are lower and property costs much less.

The things you mention apply to the poor unfortunates who don't have any education and are in low-wage jobs. Those at the bottom of the scale have no job security, medical benefits, and not much holiday time. But that does not describe the vast majority of workers. I know hairdressers who make well into six figures, and estate agents can take home a fortune.

There is a national federal minimum wage of $7.25, but each state can set its own, which is often better. The MW in my state is $15.00, about the same as Britain's. New York's $15.50 in the sticks and $16.50 in NYC. California's is $16.50. Washington's is $16.66.

It's misleading when the foreign media says there is no this or that in the states. What they mean is, it's not federally mandated. They don't report that each state provides these things. In my state, I got 80 percent of my full wage when I went off work to care for my parents, and you can get that for three months on a calendar year. Same if you have a baby - but a good company will give you better maternity benefits than that.

We may not have great FEDERAL benefits, but state benefits and employer benefits often combine to give you much better than you'd get in the UK.

America has some of the top universities in the world, and the education is longer. There's an emphasis on a well-rounded education, so they don't specialise as early as we do in the British system.

Lastly, 31% of children in Britain live in poverty, significantly more than the child poverty rate in America, which is 12.4% as of 2022, up for 5.2%.

I live in a blue state and I hate Trump. What's happened to women's rights in the southern states is appalling, although it's worth noting that even Ruth Bader Ginsburg thought that control of abortion should be handed back to the states.

Of course America isn't perfect. Far from it. But really, don't believe everything you read. Millions of people have a good life with much opportunity in the States, and they don't get shot, either!

This is very interesting thread, however, it should be no discussions (few pages about pensions, etc). Would be more easier to read.

And some are about horrendous traumas that posters are living through so it is good to be able to provide some support by replying to those, especially as they may not have anyone IRL to confide in.

I try to be sympathetic to people in different situations to mine but I cannot and will never understand anorexia and hope and pray my kids don't get it. I get you don't want to eat, but why cant you just open your mouth, put food in and swallow, job done. You don't have to enjoy the process. To me it seems entirely borne from vanity and self obsession. I never really felt strongly about it until recently when there has been so much hate towards obese people using injections to lose weight. As someone who struggled my whole life with weight, it's so insulting when people complain about the money it will cost the government, when we been funding anorexia treatment for decades, to people who don't want to get better anyway. At least most people taking weight loss injections want to get better. Yes, obesity is a new problem linked to our lifestyle, but addiction has been around since time immemorial. Anorexia became prevalent when people have more time to obsess about their looks, i don't know stats but I'm pretty sure young people working 14 hour days 6 days a week weren't all that concerned with their reflection. My gripe is not anorexics themselves it's the double standard with how people at two opposite sides of the same issue are treated.

Lilyhatesjaz · 19/10/2025 16:16

The problem is anorexia has the highest death rate of any mental illness and can affect people of all ages. It is not really to do with looks.

I think that its likely that people who are against the one being treated will also be against the other and I reckon in both cases it says more about the objector than it does about the person with the problem. I date from the time when anorexia and bulimia were not generally recognised as illnesses and I suspect that in the future, people will look back on how obese people were treated and recognise how wrong simply calling it "lack of willpower" is. I mean look at MN and how ARFID is called "being picky"

KaliforniaDreamz · 19/10/2025 17:00

Anorexia is nothing to do with vanity. It is a physical manifestation of mental illness and destroys lives. the help on offer is abysmal.

I have this too. BUT I now have it under control

Don't ever wipe with loo roll after a poo, wash every time using a cotton wool ball and thoroughly dry gently by dabbing. When you go for a wee just dab toilet roll , don't rub..
Use eucrin oil shower gel to wash then apply hydrocortisone creme twice a day , morning and night. And take an anti histamine daily.
Breaking the scratch cycle is crucial

That the majority of 'Christians' don't have faith and don't actually believe in God/Jesus, at all. It's just that, growing up, they failed to be accepted into any other of the regular peer/social groups, so ended up joining the church as last resort. Nothing to do with religious fervour, they just want to belong somewhere.

For me, it was observing the behaviour of new 'Christians' at 6th form and university. It was highly unlikely they were going to be accepted into any of the other social groups or societies.

Football is soap opera for blokes, who's going to which team, who's done/said something, who's manager is awful/brilliant, where they are in the league......rinse repeat each season ......

Rayah · 19/10/2025 19:47

I am very against the royal family in principle and really don't see a need for them.

However that doesn't stop them being my secret obsession. I've got about every biography on them downloaded on my phone, Prince Harry's autobiography etc. Whenever I get time to myself, I'll watch whatever documentaries about them before deleting them off the sky planner.

I think part of this is escapism and that I'd secretly love to be a member of the Royal family. The multiple massive houses at no cost, having a fleet of staff to cater to my every whim, nannies on hand to basically do all the hard child rearing stuff for me, not having to work a conventional job, the designer clothes, having my hair and make up done every day, not having to worry about money. I imagine the reality is probably different from what I imagine.

I don't tell anyone of all this in real life. Probably due to the fact I'm quite vocal about how against I am of them!
