To now be increasingly concerned about illegal boat arrivals

1000 replies

CalmShaker · 14/10/2025 21:33

I've kept a level head with boat crossing arrivals but recently I've become concerned that there are some really unpleasant people being let in. This story was hard to watch on the news this evening;

Asylum seeker 'murdered hotel worker Rhiannon Whyte in frenzied attack' - BBC News https://share.google/qxzed2MD19TYPKasQ

I welcome genuine asylum but I don't believe that is what is happening anymore.
The story immediately before the above on national news this evening was the migrant who had threatened Nigel Farrage. I know Nigel is not the most popular of people but the migrant was horrid, clearly dangerous and not safe to be on our streets.
Financial cost and all other factors aside, it's the safety aspect that worry me most.

The lunatic who threatened to kill Farage should be booted back to Afghanistan

But of course we wont do this. Endless appeals, legal aid, everything to ensure that he is comfortable and given every chance. He had 17 convictions from Sweden plus this offence.

JUST WHAT IS WRONG WITH US! NO WONDER PEOPLE TRY AND MAKE THEIR WAY TO THE UK.

Beachtastic · 15/10/2025 10:45

I have a feeling that many of the PPs who express shock at the "racism" of this thread have never lived in a place where men from North Africa and the Middle East have made our lives a fucking misery.

I say this as someone who once eagerly campaigned for the local hotel to be used for migrants. Based on personal experience, I wouldn't be doing that again now.

ETA: I think this is a feminist issue since the problems disproportionately affect women, for obvious cultural reasons.

The link to the interview I provided is worth a listen. The law allows it. That’s the problem.

True, my mistake. It's legal migration numbers which have come down (by far the larger part of migration to the UK). But it was the Conservatives who on their watch saw the crossings go from in the hundreds to in the tens of thousands. After leaving the EU to "take back our borders", which was promoted for more than 20 years by Farage.

  • 2018: 299 crossings
  • 2019: 1,843 crossings (+516.4% from 2018)
  • 2020: 8,466 crossings (+359.1% from 2019)
  • 2021: 28,526 crossings (+237.1% from 2020)
  • 2022: 45,774 crossings (+60.4% from 2021)
Edited

You need to look at asylum numbers in early 2000s which were comparable and pre Brexit. It was just via lorry instead.

PropertyD · 15/10/2025 10:50

I believe this man also has a child? Dont know whether here or in Sweden. Bet he claims his right to a Family Life? What does someone have to do to be removed from the country. What if he HAD killed Nigel Farage? Would it be a court case, jail time and then what? Hear his appeal then?

freshpyjamas · 15/10/2025 10:50

Bigpinksweater · 14/10/2025 22:21

It’s like trans all over again.

People urging us to ‘share our spaces’ with men because ‘they’ll offend anyway even if you refuse’. And ‘you should be more worried about abuse from cis/white men’ and ‘you’re a bigot’. The ‘they’re so vulnerable’ and ‘why would you want to be mean’. The ‘we can guard against this with proper safety checks’ and ‘nobody would pretend to be trans/asylum seeking’.

All so boringly repetitive and the same women making the same mistakes over and over.

This exactly.

Women throwing their arms up in the air in horror and throwing around the terms bigot and racist in response to other women voicing their concerns about being scared when walking past big groups of undocumented men outside hotels and HMO’s in their towns.

A lot of us are actually dealing with this down the road from where we live with our children.

It’s a genuine and absolutely justified concern, yet we have women on MN who overuse ridiculous terms like “whataboutery” to try and make themselves seem intelligent and the rest of us stupid.

Makes me absolutely sick. It’s very similar to the women who waved men into our spaces under the guise of “not being a transphobe” You aren’t morally superior, you are just accepting huge risk to safety on behalf of the rest of us.

Which is why the application process has to be sped up. Groups of young men amassing is going to be problematic. One of the reasons unemployment going up under Labour is going to cause more problems. More people will little to do. Much more likelihood for petty criminality and anti social behaviour.

PropertyD · 15/10/2025 10:56

The car washes, barbers shops and nail bars are rife around here.

Labour could do a lot worse than absolutely targetting them rentlessly. But they wont.. Cash only, money laundering is all going around us.

And dare I say it... if we didnt use them ourselves then they would immediately go out of business but they are cheap and everytime I pass one near me it is FULL.

Its similar to people who want to tax Amazon and get them to pay more taxes.

You do know that if Amazon have to pay more tax then the person who will be paying those taxes is YOU??

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 15/10/2025 11:03

just seen that Rachel Reeves is admitting more tax rises coming in the budget. How on earth can she talk about tax payers needing to fill a 40bn black hole while allowing the money that’s being put in to flood back out in spiralling welfare costs for the world. It’s mind blowing. Honestly I listen to what she says and bits of my brain just burn.

Bigpinksweater · 15/10/2025 09:34

@MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack do you live close to an asylum hotel yourself out of interest? If no, can you comment on the fact almost uniformly every person that does has complained about being harassed or made to feel unsafe by the men?

Yes, I do live near asylum seeker accommodation, and my young adult daughter previously volunteered to support some of the residents. Neither of us have ever experienced any harassment or inappropriate behaviour.

How near? Were the residents she supported male? How did she support them?

Madness. The last budget was said to be a one off tax hike. They’ve blown it.

So now I have to provide the solution? To be fair I probably have as much experience as Rachel Reeves in the industry so if she wants to come round later with the paperwork I’m happy to take a look.

Goldeh · 14/10/2025 21:37

First response nails it.

There are good people and bad people from all walks of life, being an asylum seeker does not automatically make someone a danger to others.

Yes but this one was and he shouldn't have been in.the country.
The lady would still be alive now if he wasn't.
Nothing will be done unless it happens to keir starmers family.
He dosent care.
I agree with OP.
We have enough of our bad people without accepting others rubbish.

Poor Poor lady what a way to treat her kindness and the countrys kindness to him.

Peonies12 · 15/10/2025 11:13

BluntPlumHam · 14/10/2025 21:35

Sigh. Here we go again. Op you’re more likely to be killed by your relative as in brother/husband or son than you are an asylum seeker.

Check the femicide stats from home office.

This. One case. IT'S NOT ILLEGAL TO COME HERE ON A BOAT.

About 5 mins walk.

Most but not all of them were male.

She volunteered with them on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to support their English language learning.

Don’t elect Labour? Might need some tweaking temporarily

Let’s make it illegal. Then they can be convicted and deported.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 15/10/2025 11:15

Apparently it’s going to be announced that the two child cap on child benefits is to be lifted - I’ve heard that will be announced within the budget at a cost of billions. Personally I would have preferred to wind the clock back on SureStart centres and get the help within the community supporting families that might now be given extra money in benefits but still choose to not to spend that money on their children health, wellbeing or shelter.

Netcurtainnelly · 15/10/2025 11:15

Whistledown2 · 15/10/2025 04:26

can someone tell me where the money comes from to accommodate the illegal immigrants?

Can someone explain why our homeless are not being given (free) accommodation with food, regular health checks etc?

We are bursting at the seams here. I cannot believe people can’t see that.

They are predominantly young men who were safe in all the countries they passed through.

Statistics and figures can be (and are) massaged to fit a narrative.

You don't know where tje money comes from. It comes from taxpayers.

Bigpinksweater · 15/10/2025 11:19

The homeless are given accommodation. What do you do when they’ve trashed their room, set fire to the bin and attacked hostel staff repeatedly?

PropertyD · 15/10/2025 11:19

I liked the Sure Start. Rather than give people who have children they cannot afford more and more.
