Does anyone else feel like this about Gaza/Israel?

I know it sounds awful, but I’m desperate for a break from Gaza. I feel like we’ve had 2 straight years of hearing about absolutely nothing else. It feels like you can’t switch the radio on, or open Facebook, or even pop to the shop without hearing chants of PALESTINE and having flags waved in your face. It’s been absolutely relentless, and wildly disproportionate compared to other conflicts and atrocities around the world.

Of course it’s hideous that so many civilians have been killed, in particular children. But it feels like Palestine truly believes it is the only population who suffered during the 1940s and is the only country to ever lose territory or be reshaped by global events. I feel like everyone else adjusted to their new normal, for the sake of peace, while Palestinians just continue what seems like an infinite grudge which is then met with harsher repressions by Israel as they have to defend themselves.

It’s utterly exhausting the globe and I have zero hope they will now smell the coffee and take the opportunity to kick Hamas out because ultimately they don’t want peace. Hamas did not drop out of the sky, they and Oct 7 had high support until they started losing, and I think it’s very unlikely they will ever be willing to move on from past events.

AIBU to think we now just need to leave them to it for the sake of all involved?

You're just being disingenuous now. C'mon. When have you EVER seen one of the 'Free Palestine' brigade protest against Hamas?

Never. No Jews, no news’

If this is all you have taken from the reporting on Gaza, may I gently suggest that you should have paid more attention.

Just to check, you know the news you're watching current right? Not 1940s footage? I get the impression it's the current levelling of towns and cities and mass murder of civilians that 'gaza' is bothered by more than anything. Also when people talk about Gaza as if it's an entity. The news you're watching isn't some machine named Gaza, it's families like yours, settled in their home region with no hope for escape constantly treated like vermin to be exterminated rather than human beings with feelings and previously full lives

Yes, said what I wanted to.

OP. “Gaza’s” children are just like your children. Their parents love them just as you love your children. These are people just like us. Before all this happened these people had a range of manual and professional jobs just like in our society, Their children went to school just as ours do. Their young people and adults were highly educated - far more so than many populations. They had pets they loved, festivals and family events they looked forward to. Homes they had bought or rented and filled with furniture and objects to their own personal tastes.

I do not get the sense you are capable of truly comprehending this. Which means it’s a waste of time really for you to enter into discussions on this subject.

I admire your honesty @Rattanlamp. Ignore the snide supercilious comments; a sense of fatigue regarding the situation is a perfectly human response (and we're all only human).

The ceasefire is welcome, Trump deserves credit (he strong armed both Israel and hamas).
It DOES though feel somewhat hollow, given that the hostility remains as ever (the 'forever' war) and in likelihood will reignite at some point (because a two state solution requires the all but impossible - recognising the legitimacy of the other).

It's tragic for the innocent victims, especially children, but it's important to remember the responsibility for the devastation of Gaza lies entirely with Hamas.

What a disgusting comment.

Beautiful souls were murdered even yesterday ( after the 'ceasefire.').

The IDF originally agreed to release the hostage Doctor Safiya and then took his name off the release list.

You're not fed up of hearing about Gaza. You started a thread on it, in order to show how you believe that the people being murdered and taken hostage deserve it because of who runs their country.

Mousewoman · 13/10/2025 11:32

The mainstream media coverage on this has been very reserved when it comes to coverage of the atrocities inflicted by Isreal - the horror of tens of thousands of children killed and maimed has been missing from my TV.More child amputees in Gaza than anywhere else in the world, or in any other war. I follow lot's of Palestinian journalism, plus UN, and aid charities, the cruelty against children has made me cry. And I have a feeling that if those children had been white, we would have seen their faces, and know at least 1 of their names.

Thank you.

I have no problem saying yes this is/was a genocide - this has been independently verified by respectable sources. If were living in post WW2 era I wouldn’t support the creation of Israel by the mass deportation of Palestine’s inhabitants - but it is here now and to dismantle it would cause WW3 and untold hardship to Jews who have suffered immeasurably as it is, so in that sense I’m a pragmatic Zionist.

But I feel the relentless looking backward, Godwin’s Law and incessant references to Colonialism are just self loathing people who are now shit stirring for egotistical reasons.

Hamas, Israel, basically the whole of the ME: the war is over
Corbyn: no it isn’t, keep fighting because I say so!

Utter rubbish. If I did some self reflection it’s probably more because I’m sick of Brits.

Young lives cut short on an unimaginable scale: the 18,457 children on Gaza’s list of war dead

Every name on a list compiled by health authorities in Gaza of the child victims of Israel’s offensive

Are the Nigerians being bombed by a democratic nation state?

Ukrainian flags went out of fashion and were replaced with Palestinian flags. Just people virtue signalling that 'they care' about some conflict on the other side of the world which is nothing to do with them, without actually doing anything about it.

When people put the Ukrainian flags on their houses I hoped Ukrainian refugees would knock on their front doors asking for money and supplies and maybe even housing. At least then for these narcissistic virtue signallers lessons would be learned when saying no to their every request got too embarrassing.

You don’t sound educated on this subject at all. You can choose to switch off the news if you don’t want to hear or read about it anymore but doing so is perpetuating your ignorance on the topic

Franpie · 13/10/2025 11:43

Instagram is awash with Hamas apologists. The trendy new line is ‘they’re the resistance!’ . I don’t even remember the IRA taking hostages but okay.

That’s your algorithm. My instagram is awash with fashion and podcast videos.

You keep watching, reading and listening to the war on Palestine and so that’s what you are being fed.

I get my news from a variety of sources. I listen to BBC’s Global News Podcast every morning and The Europeans news podcast every week. Most days I also listen to Woman’s Hour.

Try broadening your news sources rather than moaning on MN about being completely bored by the constant news of genocide that you are actively seeking out.

Hopefully you'll get the break you need soon. There has been loads of news coverage but weirdly none of it has focused on the real victim which turned out to be you.

Amazing response, no notes

I don’t do anything to encourage the algorithms. I just follow a lot of politicians whose entire mindset is now Gaza, same with my friends.

Nobody will know the souls existed in Sudan at all. It isn’t a competition but why are not seeking them out if you value life equally?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/10/2025 11:49

it'll be interesting to see where the pro-Palestinian protest movements go from here, whether they give much thought to the possibility that some of their activism could piss people off or even just desensitise them enough to become counterproductive. I think it's unlikely that they'll turn their hand towards protesting about Palestinians being killed by Hamas

They'll no more care about Hamas killing Palestinians than they do about all the other conflicts, @NikkiPotnick - firstly because it doesn't involve jews to hate, and also because I doubt many could even find them on a map

As for the tedious (and too often hateful) marchers, it'll probably be "they're not doing enough to rebuild Palestine" next and I doubt much will stop them except the upcoming poorer weather

Not such a fun day out if they're getting cold and wet, which is doubtless why Just Stop Oil, Extinction Rebellion and the rest tended to tail off in winter

I think they’ll fizzle to nothing or jump back onto trans rights (not the religious among them, obviously). Having an opinion on future developments requires a much more complex understanding than simply ‘fuck Isr*el’
