Does anyone else feel like this about Gaza/Israel?

I know it sounds awful, but I’m desperate for a break from Gaza. I feel like we’ve had 2 straight years of hearing about absolutely nothing else. It feels like you can’t switch the radio on, or open Facebook, or even pop to the shop without hearing chants of PALESTINE and having flags waved in your face. It’s been absolutely relentless, and wildly disproportionate compared to other conflicts and atrocities around the world.

Of course it’s hideous that so many civilians have been killed, in particular children. But it feels like Palestine truly believes it is the only population who suffered during the 1940s and is the only country to ever lose territory or be reshaped by global events. I feel like everyone else adjusted to their new normal, for the sake of peace, while Palestinians just continue what seems like an infinite grudge which is then met with harsher repressions by Israel as they have to defend themselves.

It’s utterly exhausting the globe and I have zero hope they will now smell the coffee and take the opportunity to kick Hamas out because ultimately they don’t want peace. Hamas did not drop out of the sky, they and Oct 7 had high support until they started losing, and I think it’s very unlikely they will ever be willing to move on from past events.

AIBU to think we now just need to leave them to it for the sake of all involved?

And the mothers in Nigeria and Sudan? Do they not deserve a share of commentary? Or, as I said before, are the only existences now either being Gazan or hearing about nothing but Gaza?

Of course they do and I am not suggesting otherwise, but the reason the Gaza/ Israel conflict has been in the news so much are the implications and fall out that are happening as a result of the conflict such as synagogue and mosque attacks in the UK.

MissDoubleU · 13/10/2025 11:07

If you were to attend a funeral a day for every child killed in Gaza in the last two years you would still be attending funerals in 50 years time.

But yes, I’m sure you need a break from hearing about it.

If it’s ok for Israel to be on the Occupied Territories then presumably you think it’s ok for Russia to occupy Ukraine ?

Why would I think that? Israel exists. It’s an established country with its own population. It wouldn’t be occupying Gaza if Gaza decided tomorrow to live in peace with their neighbours.

You think people who are against the genocide are "mentally ill"?

So the Palastinian protestors attacked a mosque? I doubt it...

This is fascinating OP. All the comments are against you but half the voters agree with you. It doesn’t suggest that healthy debate is alive on this topic if basically all the people who agree feel they can’t comment.

If the Uk wasn’t so involved past and present then you’d have more of a point.

AliasGrape · 13/10/2025 11:14

Mealy82 · 13/10/2025 11:05

So we shouldn't point out that the media is unfairly reporting on global events because it will make people realise that the media is unfairly reporting on global events?

I don’t think they’re unfairly reporting on global events though, in as much as I don’t think the reporting of what’s happened in Palestine has been ‘unfair’ in the way you do (I assume you mean it’s been biased against the poor Israeli government, apologies if wrong).

If you genuinely care about what’s happening in Sudan and Nigeria then of course you should talk about it, campaign, protest, boycott- whatever actions you think appopriate. But do that for its own sake, in the name of those poor people, and not as some sickening ‘gotcha’ when what you’re actually doing is trying to make people stop caring about suffering in Palestine. If you think Palestine are actually the aggressors, if you don’t think that Israel has committed a genocide, if you don’t think it actually matters that much that nearly 18500 children have been killed by Israeli forces over 2 years or you think it’s sad but don’t want to hear about it or whatever it is you actually think/ care about - you should be able to argue that on its own merits without dragging other suffering people into it to make your point. I just find the whataboutery grotesque honestly.

DashboardConfession · 13/10/2025 11:11

I’m against the genocide.

But refusing to accept Hamas are a terror group and not noble freedom fighters, denouncing Oct 7 as a fake, blaming the deaths of UK Jews on ‘Mossad agents’, believing the entire world needs to come to a standstill because of 1 conflict when others rage on ignored, accusing people who believe in the state of Israel as being the devil incarnate… yes that is a mental illness, sorry.

OP posts:
Happyher · 13/10/2025 11:15

I think a lot of us suffer from news fatigue. There’s not much good news around and the 24 hr news makes us immune to the suffering and conflicts around the world. I just switch off rather than look at another starving or seriously injured child for the sake of my own mental health.

I don’t want to be burdened every day with death, suffering or repression of innocent people as I can’t fix it. I used to watch Sky News but now find it difficult as they have to sensationalise and go into the detailed minutiae of every story. I feel they try to create the news by hounding people till they crack and then relish the fallout. I now watch BBC news for half an hour first thing and find it much less stressful

It’s an interesting social phenomenon isn’t it? Almost as if the nervous, slightly oppressed discourse is not the ‘pro-Palestine’ side.

What is Hamas, and why has Israel deliberately enabled its existence for years?

Congratulations on your first ever post on Mumsnet, where your posts of exclusively been discussing a subject that you apparently don't want to think about anymore.

😂😂😂😂

Discussion about genocide is uncomfortable for a reason. It might be because it's an awful thing.

Hamas didnt drop out the sky - it was formed after over TWENTY years of mass killing and displacement. They do want peace. Israel has broken EVERY ceasefire agreement previously. Im sure all the news youve been hearing recently has informed you that even yday israel dropped bombs on another ME country?

Also Gaza wants FAIR rights. Not to be on the bottom of a 5 tier system. What israel wanted was to bomb them into submission and then continue with a system where they are treated as less

AliceMaforethought · 13/10/2025 11:16

I feel exactly the same. People are being quite disingenuous in their responses. I don't know why people talk about Gaza to the exclusion of all other conflicts, it is truly bizarre. And yes, I am sick of it as well.

Usually on Palestine/Israel threads it’s the opposite way. That’s the fascinating thing here.

AliceMaforethought · 13/10/2025 11:19

Bundleflower · 13/10/2025 10:44

Probably quite a few. I don’t know of anybody who supports terrorists. I hope that the innocent people of Palestine will one day be free of any oppression from anybody.

Quite a few? Are you having a laugh? You know perfectly well that these useful idiots won't be marching against Hamas.

No. I’m not. That’s information only you must be privy to about the ‘useful idiots’.

Hopefully you'll get the break you need soon. There has been loads of news coverage but weirdly none of it has focused on the real victim which turned out to be you.

this may be the best response I’ve ever read on MN.

You're just being disingenuous now. C'mon. When have you EVER seen one of the 'Free Palestine' brigade protest against Hamas?

CharlotteAnnaFitz · 13/10/2025 11:21

Hamas did not drop out of the sky, they and Oct 7 had high support until they started losing

How much do you know about the state of democracy, voting rights and genuine press freedom in Gaza pre-Oct 7?
