Omg! Amazon driver just tried to come into my house!!!

So I’m sat at home, on my own, reading.
Suddenly my front door is VERY forcibly trying to be opened, it made a huge racket and I immediately thought someone was trying to break in!
The door wasn’t locked, but thankfully I have a child safety latch on the door, which I always use.
I go to the door and can see through the glass it’s an Amazon delivery man.
I open the door, and ask what the hell he is doing, trying to get into my house.
He replies he does it all the time, and it’s my fault as my settings on Amazon say front door/porch.
I am fuming at this point, and tell him it’s totally unacceptable, I’m at home alone, and never have I had someone try to enter my house before to deliver a parcel!
After a few more choice words from me, he gives me the parcel and says he will be reporting ME!
Obviously I immediately reported it to Amazon, who are taking it very seriously.
As I said to them, I’m an assertive person who can stand up for themselves, what if the homeowner had been someone more vulnerable?
So am I being unreasonable to expect that delivery men DONT try to access your property?!

Why are these men incapable of recognising what a front door is? I’ve never once in my life got confused between a porch and a front door.

Anyone trying to play the "sisterhood" card lose all credibility.

Just because you are woman doesn't mean we all have to pretend you are reasonable and right when you are not.

How would it work if the delivery driver was a woman, and she had been the one trying to open the door to put the parcel in? 😂
You wouldn't know if the person on the other side of the door is male or female

I would be equably freaked out.
obviously!

You can't leave the door unlocked AND complain when someone comes through it 🤣

Of course you fucking can. Being unlocked does not give someone the right to
open it & go inside. Even
if the door is wide open it is NOT ok to just walk in. Were you raised by wolves?

Exactly. It's pretty bloody obvious if there's a porch or not.

Quite often my delivery details say 'left in porch' quite a feat considering I don't fucking have one!!

CharlotteFlax · 12/10/2025 00:28

Sister sending solidarity here!

What happened to actually trying the bell or knocking?! Thank fuck you did have the latch on!

CrimsonStoat · 12/10/2025 00:28

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 23:55

Thank you!
Its insane how many people think this is ok!

What's insane is the number of people who've gone along with your exaggerated nonsense that he was trying to enter the house, but I suppose it makes the potential sympathy factor higher when you put it like that rather than the more factual description of him attempting something somewhat more mundane like a parcel delivery.

BunnyLake · 12/10/2025 00:29

PollyBell · 12/10/2025 00:18

To drop a parcel no, to sit down at watch TV yeah a bit odd

What? That’s insane.

MN is a crazy place, one minute it’s MNers who refuse to open the door to anyone, the next it’s MNers being all cool and blase about total strangers coming into their home uninvited. Crazeee I tell you.

It's not really. Some standard homes have been split into two.
Two separated door entrances in the hallway once you open the front door.

Would that person say you can’t wear a short skirt and not expect to get attacked? Sometimes I really wonder about the people on MN, I think a lot like to be contrary for the sake of it.

When I walk past a house whose door is open I don’t take that as an open invite to go in their house and I’m sure the posters on here don’t either despite their strange views.

I have no idea what you mean. Why would a home have two separate doors or do you mean a house converted into flats?

Actually... I am not a delivery driver, but if I am dropping something at somebody's house and I see the door opened, of course I leave the thing inside the house.

I don't even need to step foot in the house for that.

You make it sound like the delivery driver was planning on visiting the house and making himelf at home 😂
Do you even know how much time they have between deliveries? They're annoying but they quickly bang on the door or try the door handle (of what they think is a porch) to drop and run to their next drop.

Devilrocknroller · 12/10/2025 01:08

This is absolutely insane! As is some of the replies on here! You did the right thing to report, I’d be furious! You could have been completely naked or anything! Or, for his own safety, what if you had a dog? My dog certainly wouldn’t take too kindly to a random man helping himself in the house!!

Ijwwm · 12/10/2025 01:16

Am sure that more and more responses to threads are becoming deliberately belligerent over the last year or so!

Aside from anything else, the main point is that there was NO attempt to knock first for the delivery. That is becoming increasingly common nowadays. Am sure part of that is the ridiculous targets drivers are meant to meet.

Surely, the alternative delivery instructions are meant to be what the driver should do IF NO ONE ANSWERS THE DOOR. Not just bloody try opening a front door straight off the bat.

And I can’t believe the OP has had to repeat, multiple times now, that alternative instructions say to leave outside front door. Not sure what “settings” she’s supposed to change on her account, seems quite clear to me.

The main point is that those instructions are supposed to be what a driver should do if no one responds to a door knock or ring of doorbell. So, if someone appears to be attempting to open your door when neither of these things have happened then, yes, it would definitely be a jolt to me in my home.

WeeGeeBored · 12/10/2025 01:30

What do you think he was planning g to do?

Petitchat · 12/10/2025 02:13

PollyBell · 11/10/2025 23:43

No i have no issue a delivery persom opening a door to drop a parcel as if I was that security conscience I would have had the door locked in the first place

I alo do not need to hyperventilate in dramaticness over it, why do people need to be so dramatic these days and adding the word vulnerable doesn't add anything to it

@PollyBell

Well, thanks for making vulnerable people like myself unimportant.

I appreciated OP mentioning vulnerable people in her post because I am vulnerable and what happened to OP would have scared me to death!

Yeah, and why do so many women stick up for them?

Franjipanl8r · 12/10/2025 03:28

I used to live on an estate where half the houses had porches and half didn’t and the front doors looked exactly the same! The delivery driver would just put the parcel on the floor inside the door if the door was left open, no one ever walked into the house. You’re being overly dramatic.

PennyRest · 12/10/2025 03:36

This thread is insane! Loads of houses do not look at all- in any way- like they have a porch! Mine doesn’t either. You can’t just walk into someone’s house and say ‘I thought it was a porch’- that’s just ridiculous.
OP, I’d be really, really annoyed, especially by the way he spoke to you after it was clear he’d shocked you and made a mistake. And everyone saying they’d not be frightened or shocked- so nice for you, but I’m sure you can see that some people might be. Ffs.

How can they look the same? A front door is flush against the walls of the house, a porch door is not.

You can have an internal porch. The front door is flush against the wall of the house but about 5 foot inside that door is another door, which is also usually lockable. The internal porch is generally used for coats, shoes etc and receiving parcels. Very typical in older terraced houses.

springintoaction2 · 12/10/2025 07:53

No - you're sitting at home, on your own, reading.

And what the heck was the delivery driver going to do? Was he going to kill you? Or put a package down?

Not great - but hardly a world event.

Yes, my neighbor is like that.
You can’t tell as the ‘porch’ doesn’t stick out like the neighbour across the rd.
This porch is Always unlocked - even when they go on holiday.

Yes but you can still tell the difference between the porch door and the inner front door. This man was trying to open her front door.

CrimsonStoat · 12/10/2025 08:47

Just to show porches can be flush with main house.

A couple of 1930s houses, one with an open porch, one enclosed, flush with the house. Sometimes people enclose the porch and remove the internal front door so the porch door becomes the main front door.
