Omg! Amazon driver just tried to come into my house!!!

So I’m sat at home, on my own, reading.
Suddenly my front door is VERY forcibly trying to be opened, it made a huge racket and I immediately thought someone was trying to break in!
The door wasn’t locked, but thankfully I have a child safety latch on the door, which I always use.
I go to the door and can see through the glass it’s an Amazon delivery man.
I open the door, and ask what the hell he is doing, trying to get into my house.
He replies he does it all the time, and it’s my fault as my settings on Amazon say front door/porch.
I am fuming at this point, and tell him it’s totally unacceptable, I’m at home alone, and never have I had someone try to enter my house before to deliver a parcel!
After a few more choice words from me, he gives me the parcel and says he will be reporting ME!
Obviously I immediately reported it to Amazon, who are taking it very seriously.
As I said to them, I’m an assertive person who can stand up for themselves, what if the homeowner had been someone more vulnerable?
So am I being unreasonable to expect that delivery men DONT try to access your property?!

Again, read the post fully before commenting.
It’s quite clearly just a front door.
No one has the right to try to enter my property without my permission.

Again go and read up on reality on the housing stock. Its never obvious that there is no porch behind a front door.

He wasn't trying to enter your property. He was trying to open the door so he could dump your parcel inside it. He wouldn't have stepped foot in.

Daily occurrence all around the country

In the OP you say that he said the instructions were front door/porch, then later on you say they were "outside the front door".
Which is it?

It’s conveniently changed when things didn’t go OP’s way - the “sisterhood” hasn’t come to her rescue like she thought Grin

This is getting so boring now.
But I will reiterate, again.
My latch was on.
Yes I was expecting a delivery, within a four hour window.
The attempted opening of my front door was very aggressive, and I had no idea who it was.
My settings say if I wasn’t in, to leave OUTSIDE front door.
It honestly has left me incredulous how many women think it’s perfectly acceptable to have a complete stranger try to open your front door, whilst you are inside your home, without trying to knock first.
Do none of you get how vulnerable that makes you feel?
My house is my safe place, someone trying to enter it without my permission is obviously distressing.
MN is nuts!

I know it’s weird isn’t it? I had no idea so many women were fine about delivery men entering their home unannounced.

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 23:36

Zodiacrobat · 11/10/2025 23:27

Why should women always be expected to support another random woman with views completely different to what we believe, just because she’s a woman. That’s not what sisterhood is.

Well you obviously have different views on the sisterhood.
My view is, that if a woman feels intimidated by a man, that women support her.
Thats what I do, and what I’ve always done my whole life.

How can that be? If your front door is flush against the walls you would not interpret that as having a porch behind it.

Actually I have had a lot of support on the thread, I’m sorry you don’t feel the same.

No i have no issue a delivery persom opening a door to drop a parcel as if I was that security conscience I would have had the door locked in the first place

I alo do not need to hyperventilate in dramaticness over it, why do people need to be so dramatic these days and adding the word vulnerable doesn't add anything to it

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 23:44

DreamyTealGuide · 11/10/2025 23:26

I can read the DM article already...

I got such a fright when the delivery guy tried to deliver the parcel I was waiting for, I unlocked the door (sorry, UNLATCHED) and went out in my dressing gown shouting at him because I was so frightened.

And he had the cheek to say he was trying to put the parcel in my porch, how dare he, no delivery person would dare being so unreasonable 😂

(yes, we know, you don't have a porch, but the amazon delivery man is a mind reader who should have guessed that, and that there was no men in your house)

You sound so funny don’t you?
You have obviously never been home alone and someone random has tried to open your front door and gain access to your house, your safe space.
But well done on your hilarious post, you’ve done yourself proud.

For those saying "lock your door" she clearly states she had the safety lock on

As someone who fled DV and has PTSD id be having a full meltdown at this. I had my settings on to leave in shed but left a note saying please knock 1st as I may not have left for work but if no answer then leave in shed by my front door..... Delivery person tried my door and thankfully locked. This was not on my settings at all! I was at work but MH CCTV sent notification to my phone and sent Amazon the footage of him trying the door

Zodiacrobat · 11/10/2025 23:45

The instructions that say leave outside front door you mean?
Its so boring when people leave comments without reading the post properly.

I did read it, I’m literally quoting your own words in your OP you plum.

I didn’t hyperventilate.
I was shocked someone tried to enter my home.

And I have no idea who was trying to access my house.
So it really was that deep.
But thank you so much for trying to minimise my experience.
And I sincerely hope you are never home alone, and hear someone trying to get into your house, and wonder who the fuck it is, and what the fuck they might want.

I keep the door locked to avoid this situation. I'm not saying that it wasn't scary, it doesn't seem vindictive either, a break down in communication.
I wouldn't log a complaint about the driver, I'd let him know that he was wrong to try the handle and ensure my door is locked in future, if you had no latch, he most likely would have dropped and left.
Update your delivery details with strict instructions.

It shocked me earlier, I’m over it now, it’s been reported, thank you so much for your empathy, woman to woman it’s really inspiring.

Good Lord, some posters are insane. The OP has repeatedly said she doesn't have a porch, but others are still saying the driver thought it was a porch.

I don't think it's appropriate for a delivery man to try and enter the house, regardless of whether your door is locked. In my world, you'd knock on a family members door before going into their bedrooms or bathroom, and that's a family member let alone a stranger.

In my last house, we didn't have a slam lock, the door had to be physically locked each time. Ok we live in a fairly safe area (Somerset market town)but often we'd only lock it if we were both out, or at night. I still would expect delivery people to knock, it's my private space FFS.

Anyone trying to play the "sisterhood" card lose all credibility.

Just because you are woman doesn't mean we all have to pretend you are reasonable and right when you are not.

How would it work if the delivery driver was a woman, and she had been the one trying to open the door to put the parcel in? 😂
You wouldn't know if the person on the other side of the door is male or female

DreamyTealGuide · 11/10/2025 23:58

the 2 are not exclusive. He was mistaken, but "he thought" kind of mean he was wrong..

Aweemawe · 11/10/2025 23:59

It’s not like he was trying to murder you.
Worst case scenario: he opens your door and puts the parcel inside.
Worst case scenario for an elderly or vulnerable person: he opens their door and put the parcel inside.

Chill out, not everyone is trying to kill you.

But you didn’t feel intimidated. The door was not openable and then you opened it to talk to him. Why would you open it if scared?

PardonMeNot · 12/10/2025 00:02

Why, why, WHY don’t people lock their doors? You leave yourself at the mercy of anyone who decides to come in. Doesn’t matter where you live!

78Summer · 12/10/2025 00:05

He obviously thought it was a porch. Must be quite a stressful job driving and finding hundreds of front doors. Don’t add to his load.

I'm not supporting any woman who tries to have a man disciplined just to make an example of him.

Amazon drivers have hundreds of drops, if he misread or misinterpreted your instructions it's hardly surprising over the course of a day that he'd make a mistake here and there.
