Yes sorry - I completely misread you initially and have since realized and acknowledged that - my bad.

No worries, it happens 🙂

doreuol · 11/10/2025 23:55

I am English and understand sarcasm but the first post from OP really shocked me . Now realise that it was sarcasm but also understand that the first post could have been misinterpreted.

CrispsPlease · 11/10/2025 23:59

Good. Glad he's dead. I'm only sorry it took so long.

Hope the prisoner is proud (he should be - good on you mate! 💪) have a 🍷 from me. Good old vigilante just desserts and I don't give a shit about the wider debate of what it could be saying for society. He raped a baby.

I hope he has no funeral and gets shoved over the edge and left to rot in an unmarked grave.

HaileyBailey · 12/10/2025 00:02

I’m so happy about this news!

Phew, your "Gosh, how sad" was supposed to be sarcastic! That really didn't come across, it seemed sincere and I couldnt believe anyone would actually mean that!

Dont be ridiculous.

What offence did your “mate” who should be “proud” and who you’d like to buy a red wine for commit to get himself in a Cat A prison?

I couldn't give a shiny shit. I know he did us all a favour and killed a rapist of a baby. That's all that matters. You can preach to someone who cares if you're banging the "human rights" drum for the monster. Because I don't care.

@CountryQueen

Yes - I can understand people praising the prisoner for this specific murder, but they shouldn't be acting as though this fellow is some great human being overall. He's probably vile, and could possibly be a child abuser himself.

Makes me wonder if Hitler had murdered a paedophile in his time, if some people would forget all of his other horrendousness.

@CrispsPlease

I think it's a fair point though - I've no problem with you celebrating Ian Watkins' death and I completely understand you praising the prisoner for this specific action - but the fact of the matter is that this prisoner is likely a vile person who has committed horrendous crimes. The murderer could be a paedophile themselves.

Praising them for this one act is understandable, but I'm not sure the murderer should be viewed positively/charitably overall...

People are talking of the act the person committed, not the person himself. Get a bloody grip. Many people though Hitler's intricate railway plans were genuis (albeit evil genius) doesn't mean they like him. You're being so 'clever' that you're being stupid.

KillMeMounjaro · 12/10/2025 00:12

miraxxx · 11/10/2025 23:52

UK prisons are overcrowded and poorly managed. Last year sex offenders were being released early due to a lack of space. That said, you cannot be too naive about assault and murders even in the best managed prisons. It comes with the territory.

Tes indeed, too true. It does happen, and conditions are not ideal with overcrowding and underfunding. Keeping everyone safe is a tall order.

Be that as it may, in an ideal world it really shouldn’t happen. Convicted persons are sent to prison as punishment, not for punishment.

SOME people's posts at least suggest that they're praising the murderer himself.

I know that - but the people who like Hitler's railway plans aren't referring to Hitler as "mate" and saying they hope he has a drink on them.

They do in the prison I worked in. Mainstream and protection are kept strictly apart for fear of attacks.

I think i knew this. And i can understand why.
But I think lawlessness in prisons is not something we should be applauding however deserving the recipient of the punishment might be. It surely undermines the rule of law.

Well of course he did. Between 1 and 2 percent of men are thought to be paedophiles (its quite hard to get a decent estimate because who is admitting to it!)

So there's all those men who died in the holocaust. And then could you add in all the soldiers who died during WW2? And what about all the potential paedofiles who werent born because of Hitler?

So by some posters logic Hitler was actually a saint and we should all raise a glass to him tonight.

So...a male that raped a baby. A baby. has been killed by a fellow prisoner. Some of us are glad of that and voicing it.

You're choosing to pick apart my joy to learn of the killing of a baby rapist. That's your beef in all of this.

Got you.

@CrispsPlease

I have NO issue with you celebrating the death of Ian Watkins. I've said so.

I'm simply pointing out that the person who murdered him is probably also a scumbag.

Your post - in which you referred to the murderer as 'mate' and said 'have a drink on me' - gave the impression of good feelings towards the murderer as a person, rather than just the act. Perhaps you did not mean for that impression, but that's the look it gives.

It's totally fine for you to celebrate this prisoner's act of murdering Ian Watkins. I just think that referring to the murderer in a (seemingly) friendly fashion is questionable, considering the kind of person the murderer almost certainly is.

InterIgnis · 12/10/2025 00:40

I’m not being an arse, or not trying to anyway. It’s the constant “well, they’re all segregated, sex offenders have separate wings. Rapists are hated, there’s a price on their head, they have a shit time” etc that I’m trying to correct. It’s really not the case. Not even nearly.

Yes, that prison has a very small unit housing a handful of VPs. Some have bigger VP units. Many have none at all other than the actual seg (every prison has one of these and it’s meant to be temporary) which is for any prisoner, not just sex offenders. I’m not going to say where any particular prisoner is or where they have been but it’s not “bollocks” that thousands of sex offenders who have committed crimes against children do their time alongside all variety of other offenders. Every day, every week. Year in, year out. It’s the norm within our prisons and posters who suggest he might’ve been killed for another reason such as a debt or a personal grievance are probably right.

This.

Take this with the proverbial grain of salt, but from what I’ve heard about his time in prison (which isn’t a lot, and is second hand), he wasn’t exactly cowering away and remorseful. He remained as arrogant as ever, and thoroughly enjoyed his celebrity and criminal infamy. He also spent most of his time high, and willingly involved himself with even more criminal prison activity (rather than it being solely the case that he was forced or coerced into it).

He was, simply put, no less a dickhead inside prison than he was outside of it. Being a dickhead to his fellow inmates in Wakefield specifically did mean that his chances of getting his throat cut were significantly higher, however. It’s highly likely that he was stabbed because he wasn’t paying his accumulated debts and/or crossed someone he shouldn’t have.

Yes,for about 5 seconds I thought it was serious! Until I saw the word 'paedophile' in the link,I thought it was referring to Ian Watkins from Steps.

I read them at the time, and I do think about it randomly sometimes. Utterly shocked how a mother could sacrifice her baby like that. If anyone hasn’t read the sentencing remarks from the trial - trust me; don’t do it. Harrowing. I shed no tears.

I agree. I burst into tears (and I only cry about three times a year!) and my 5 year old son came in and hugged me. I don’t think I have ever hugged one of my children so tightly.

those Mothers deserve to die and rot in hell too. The only thing I have read that was as disturbing was the details of the Jamie Bulger case but it was children who were, themselves, vulnerable and children. But what Ian and those mothers did was incomprehensible. And how young those babies were is unthinkable.

I don’t understand why the walking female wombs (I refuse to call them Mothers) are not named? Was their identify protected to protect the children and babies in question.

InOverMyHead84 · 12/10/2025 00:43

I cannot take joy in death.

But this comes close. That in itself saddens me further.

Just awful.

I don’t think anyone is lamenting the death of this repulsive creature. Everyone is disgusted by his crimes.

But if Watkins had murdered one of his fellow Cat A prisoners, who had committed similarly serious and horrific crimes (but not received the publicity that being in a successful rock band brings) would you be applauding him? Wanting to buy him a pint, and, sickeningly, calling him your “mate”?

IMakeDealsWithTheDevil · 12/10/2025 00:44

For me I think it's fair to say I had forgotten all about him and am happy to continue forgetting all about him. No joy taken, just moving on.

Read all my posts before accusing me of banging any fucking drum 🤷🏽‍♀️

Your celebration of violence in prisons and public encouraging “yes mate, have a drink on me buddy” mentality has consequences. For all of the people who do jobs you wouldn’t want to do. HTH 🙄
