I don’t think anyone is lamenting the death of this repulsive creature. Everyone is disgusted by his crimes.

But if Watkins had murdered one of his fellow Cat A prisoners, who had committed similarly serious and horrific crimes (but not received the publicity that being in a successful rock band brings) would you be applauding him? Wanting to buy him a pint, and, sickeningly, calling him your “mate”?

Exactly. Doesn’t even know who killed him but “yeah mate, let me buy you a pint”.

OonaStubbs · 12/10/2025 00:48

Paedophiles are sub-human IMO.

Very hard to know if your OP is sarcastic or if you've come on here to provoke mums.

Really?

No clues at all from context, or any of the subsequent posts by OP, or the hundreds of posts of discussion?

Well I had to vote then started reading the thread.
It's what I normally do. Just explaining why the votes look 40/50. It seems I wasn't the only one either.

Who is he?

Keep up.

I knew it was sarcastic, but I also thought it was really glib. Seemed a strange start to such a serious topic. I'm not even sure why it's an AIBU.

Ah, well, not always really the case is it? I mean, if someone had murdered Hitler when he was 18 years old, well..

I do believe some people are so flipping evil that I am happy to smile a little when they've been taken away.

The only way to know what was being prevented though would be if you could time travel, and then you could re-direct his life so no murder needed.

Also, I notice you went for 18 and not 8, or as a baby.

@CountryQueen

Yes - I can understand people praising the prisoner for this specific murder, but they shouldn't be acting as though this fellow is some great human being overall. He's probably vile, and could possibly be a child abuser himself.

Makes me wonder if Hitler had murdered a paedophile in his time, if some people would forget all of his other horrendousness.

💯. There was a news article on a baby killer, who got beaten up with a frozen water bottle in prison. Great. The attacker was just as vile as the baby killer, he hunted down, battered his ex GF and her male friend to death 10 years ago.
I assume this killer will be evil too.

Frequency · 12/10/2025 01:36

I'm normally of the opinion that loss of liberty is the punishment, and prisoners should not have to live in fear or misery. I also think it is important to remember that no matter how abhorrent a person is, they are someone's son, someone's sibling etc, However, in this case, the only sad thing is that he is no longer suffering.

I would have preferred him to survive this stabbing, and the next one, and the one after that...

Ashersmom · 12/10/2025 02:26

I will never agree with the death penalty, but won't lose sleep over that piece of shit.

CherryRipe1 · 12/10/2025 04:38

I read a couple of snippets in the papers and if these are to be believed, he was killed because said prisoner who killed him, was raging mad over something to do with guitar lessons and the young groupies visiting Ian Watkins, so possibly not because he was a vile paedo. Wtf?

NotrialNodeal · 12/10/2025 06:49

neverbeenskiing · 11/10/2025 21:29

You know nothing about my moral compass.
I have no sympathy whatsoever for Watkins or any other despicable piece of shit who abuses children. In fact I am a survivor of CSA and have worked with children who have been sexually abused and exploited my whole adult life. I can be disgusted by Watkin's crimes and still think that some of the comments and jokes on here, as well as the insulting comments about people who work in prisons, are in poor taste. If you don't agree that's perfectly fine but your insinuation that my feeling uncomfortable with people falling over themselves to express jubilation at anyones death means I'm somehow excusing child abuse is hugely offensive, as well as completely illogical.

I'm sorry to learn you're a csa victim. That is something I wouldn't wish upon anyone. Given what you've said I find it even more odd that you feel the way you do but conclude that it must mean you're a bigger and better person than I.

Your comment caught one or two out. What gave it away was "brilliant"😂

To be fair they'd have been nothing without Lee and H.

Thank you, was trying to lighten the mood of the thread😂

Glad you cottoned on🙊

He should have been hanged by the state, capital punishment for his crimes. I feel sorry for the inmate who may be given extra time.

You feel sorry for a fellow possible peadophile, rapist, murderer?

Why? Who forced him to commit murder?

ACynicalDad · 12/10/2025 08:16

Saddest news I’ve heard in the last 2 1/2 seconds.

Ratafia · 12/10/2025 08:21

CrispsPlease · 12/10/2025 00:29

So...a male that raped a baby. A baby. has been killed by a fellow prisoner. Some of us are glad of that and voicing it.

You're choosing to pick apart my joy to learn of the killing of a baby rapist. That's your beef in all of this.

Got you.

Well, no. You called the killer, who has already been convicted for serious offences, your mate and wanted to buy him a drink. For all you know the person concerned is Ian Huntley or someone just as despicable as Watkins. On any interpretation he's a pretty awful person. Why do you want him to be your mate?

KillMeMounjaro · 12/10/2025 08:41

Christ. I can’t believe people are saying they “feel sorry” for his murderers (two men involved).

No one forced these vicious brutes to murder. And reports are that they did NOT do so because of horror of Watkins’ crimes, nor to avenge his victims, nor whatever other fictitious virtuous motivation they wish to bestow, but instead because of a petty grudge.

What bloody saints. 🙄

Possibly angry about him having guitar lessons and groupies because of what he did.

DramaLlamacchiato · 12/10/2025 08:48

Thunderpants88 · 12/10/2025 00:43

I agree. I burst into tears (and I only cry about three times a year!) and my 5 year old son came in and hugged me. I don’t think I have ever hugged one of my children so tightly.

those Mothers deserve to die and rot in hell too. The only thing I have read that was as disturbing was the details of the Jamie Bulger case but it was children who were, themselves, vulnerable and children. But what Ian and those mothers did was incomprehensible. And how young those babies were is unthinkable.

I don’t understand why the walking female wombs (I refuse to call them Mothers) are not named? Was their identify protected to protect the children and babies in question.

Yes to protect their children

And whilst there is no excuse for what they did they were groomed by an evil paedophile

I'm more surprised he still had groupies. The man gave me the creeps, even in his heyday he gave me the creeps.

Oh no, I think it is good that he will now be given extra time. That's two sex offenders not walking the streets any time soon. I’m glad IW is dead, it eliminates further risk to society but the person who did it is also a risk to society, so death for one and longer jail time for the other is a positive outcome imo.

LakieLady · 12/10/2025 09:34

I understand this is an unpopular opinion, but we don’t (for good reason) have capital punishment or allow mob justice here.

It's not unpopular with me, @IdealisticCynic . There have been so many miscarriages of justice that a lot of innocent people would have been wrongly killed if we still had the death penalty.

Well if the person that did it was also a paedo, he's probably not that bothered about IW being one.
