Two men have been charged with Watkins’ murder.

I sincerely hope there is no jury in this country which would convict them. I hope I am called up to serve on that jury. If I am, I will vote to acquit, irrespective of the evidence.

So basically as a juror you would happily subvert the legal system based on whether you personally approved of the victim? And people wonder why women victims of VAWG struggle to get justice.

Nobody gets onto that wing of Wakefield without committing disgusting violent and/or sexual crimes. But hey, good for them to know that if they just murder someone publicly considered a bit worse they get a free pass on their own crimes.

I sincerely hope you're never called for jury service.

I can't believe people are praising the vile individuals who killed him. Not a single one of them covers themselves in glory, not Ian Watkins, not prisoner A, not prisoner B. They're all vile individuals.

The fact that there are people on here actively praising a murderer (who killed an innocent man in cold blood) and a rapist (who kidnapped, and raped his victim 5 times) makes me really worry about people. These aren't tax dodgers or petty criminals, they're the lowest of the low.

The fact Ian Watkins wasn't killed because of what he did but due to drugs and groupies (so basically jealousy and drug debt) hasn't even crossed their minds.

Let's not forget the emergency services, the prison staff, all have to deal with the fall out from this. I'm sure, regardless of Ian Watkins crimes, they would have worked hard to save his life as that is what human nature does.

But hey let's carry on praising the scum and offering them drinks and saying they'd acquit them if they were on a jury. To hell with the trauma of everyone else involved.

Good I’m glad he’s dead. And I don’t care who killed him or how he died, he deserved all of it. On top of being a baby rapist the police found 27 terabytes of child abuse images on his devices. Prison was too good for him, phones, drugs and fans visiting him 🤮 someone needs to check their hard drives too.

This. ^

It hadn’t been on any main news shows at 5:30pm, it wasn’t on BBC news at all until after that.

It must have been because I knew about it well before this thread began at 17.26 so presumably a news flash or resume of some sort during the day, if not the lunchtime telly news. I honestly can't remember (didn't know anything about him or the trial), but my main quibble was with you saying that it hadn't been reported. it had.

Woo-hoo! 🥳 🍾

Well done, that prisoner. Give the man an OBE. I hope the police & authorities find a wall of silence & ‘no evidence’ in their investigations.

Huntley next, please! 🤞

As I mentioned before, it's worth mentioning and not forgetting that these men you congratulate are also rapists and murders and they are victims to their crimes.

While I'm in no way sad about the loss about Ian Watkins, do you think the families of the victims of his murders previous crimes would want them being celebrated, people wishing them to buy them drinks or they should get an OBE? Put yourselves in their shoes for just a minute before making such ridiculous comments.

Sartre · 13/10/2025 13:00

Whilst not saddened by the death in the slightest, I don’t think a man who raped a woman five times should be glorified and he certainly doesn’t deserve an OBE…

Agreed. I couldn’t care less about what happened to Ian. But people acting like his killing was some amazing heroic act by people who cared so deeply for victims opposed to two fellow wrongens who were in a money dispute with him is just insulting to the victims of the two perps.

I know it's almost as if some people have forgotten that the people who have murdered him have victims of their own.

While I can't reiterate enough just how awful a person Ian Watkins was and I'm not sad he's gone, if you had a family member or god forbid a child who had been raped or murdered, would you want people celebrating their perpetrator if they had murdered someone else in jail or saying they wouldn't convict them on a jury? I can't believe some of the comments I've read.

The BBC didn’t report it anywhere until 5:33pm, when OP posted the thread the mirror which on the mirror link is 17:16pm was the only place with a report followed by the mail a few minutes later.

Anabla · 13/10/2025 13:56

I also can't believe these comments from people saying they hope there is "a wall of silence" and if they were on a jury they wouldn't convict him.

The two convicted of murdering committed henious crimes themselves. If I were a victim or family member of a victim, I would imagine I'd take some comfort that they would be hopefully be guilty at a trial, adding further years to their sentences meaning less chance of release.

Some people on this thread really need to take a look at themselves before making such ridiculous comments.

Good. Glad he's dead. I'm only sorry it took so long.

Hope the prisoner is proud (he should be - good on you mate! 💪) have a 🍷 from me. Good old vigilante just desserts and I don't give a shit about the wider debate of what it could be saying for society. He raped a baby.

I hope he has no funeral and gets shoved over the edge and left to rot in an unmarked grave.

It goes without saying Ian Watkins crimes were barbaric. However the two men accused - one was found guilty of murdering an innocent man due to mistaken identity and the other one if I'm correct, repeatedly raped a woman 5 times.

Still want to call them "mate" and buy them a drink? If your child or family member had been a victim of their crimes, would you want people congratulating them and offering them to buy them a drink, even if they had murdered someone in prison?

CherryRipe1 · 13/10/2025 14:19

I'm glad he's dead but his killer/s are about as equally scummy & I don't think it was an altruistic act. Greed & jealousy probably came into play. I do feel a bit sorry for Watkins parents seeing all the outpourings on SM etc, which are justified but nonetheless.....They've got to go to his funeral with mixed emotions. I keep thinking what the hell made him like this? Was he a born wrong 'un or did he get warped and jaded through his fame with access to young fans and acquire his disgusting sexual appetites chasing higher highs of vileness. Was he sexually abused? Not trying to justify his behaviours, just trying to get my head round it. He had no remorse at all, even said he couldn't see what all the fuss was about. Absolute monster.

@SpottyAardvark

One of Watkins' murderers raped a woman 5 times.

The other attacked a 16-year-old, murdered a 22-year-old, and reportedly laughed about it.

I totally understand you praising their actions in killing Watkins; that's a natural response because of what Watkins was guilty of.

But having any kind of positive regard for those men themselves would be a shocking misjudgement. Those men have innocent victims and devastation in their wake.

He also only pleaded guilty to get a lighter sentence (it didn't work) and blamed the drugs for his behaviour.

I'm sure the power he had over the groupies turned him on. He's the same age as me, so at the height of his fame he would have been mid-20s, I imagine he had young fans throwing themselves at him and what an ego boost that would have been, it probably made him feel invincible and untouchable so he thought he could get away with his depraved kicks.

It really wouldn’t have been an altruistic act. While they may exploit the ‘he was terrible and I was so overcome with empathy for his victims that I had to take matters into my own hands’ angle, it will be a cynical attempt to get a lighter sentence (at least for the one that isn’t already a lifer).

They mix with pedophiles on a daily basis, and I would not be at all surprised if they get on just fine with other baby rapists in there. It will have been because of personal grievances that they targeted Ian Watkins. These aren’t people that were on some vigilante moral crusade.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if there are inmates that are furious about them killing him, given they’ve now lost not only a cash cow that was providing them with other perks (iirc he was setting some of them up with the groupies writing to him), but one that probably owed them money.

CherryRipe1 · 13/10/2025 15:25

@InterIgnisI agree completely. These people are probably mostly all psychopaths with no morals, ethics or feelings. It's just what's in it for me, with repercussions if they don't get what they want. Rashid Gedel 25 and Samuel Dodsworth 43 have been charged for IWs murder.

Tbh I’m inclined to think he was a bored sexual sadist wanting to see how far he could go. He could get women and teenage girls easily, so there was no fun or challenge in that for him.

Imo it was less about specifically being attracted to children, but about getting pleasure in having not just the power over his helpless victims, but the power of having their mothers facilitate it on his say so. Basically a raging god complex.

I wouldn't be surprised if you're right. He lasted 13 years inside after all.
The men who did it are not men I'd want to bump into, much less buy a drink for. I hope they do get a good amount of extra years on their sentences, as they are not men I want to see out on the streets.

Yes this. People need to remember that two things can be true at once - an awful man met a suitably grisly end, AND the people responsible are still awful in their own right. Even if you don’t care about the “crime” they committed inside, you should care about the ones they committed prior against the innocent enough to not render them heroes. Doing a bad thing to a person who deserved it doesn’t alleviate you of responsibility for the bad things you did to those who didn’t deserve it.

Also as you say, if the current reporting is accurate, they did it because he pissed THEM off. Not because they were passionate about getting vigilante justice for his victims, even if they have inadvertently found some peace in what has happened.

Pemba · 13/10/2025 16:02

Watkins and his murderers were all three monsters. He was the worst monster though.

Pps said that likely he was not killed out of disgust at his crimes by some honest(!) burglar or something, but it would be by other pretty evil men with purely selfish motivations. They were right weren't they?

So no I don't think anyone should be thinking of congratulating his killers! Whilst I am glad IW is dead, his killers were the unwitting instruments of this happening and I certainly hope that they don't get found not guilty by some thick jurors. It would be good if they got longer sentences actually, as their original crimes were horrible and they're obviously dangerous.

Butchyrestingface · 13/10/2025 16:08

OonaStubbs · 12/10/2025 00:48

Paedophiles are sub-human IMO.

What about murderers who stab innocent strangers to death in the street?

Or who drag strangers off the street at knife point to repeatedly rape them?

I think there are occasions when the 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' mentality can be taken too far.
