He was there in the 90s and the 2000s and left when prison officer contacts and everything were changed and people looking after cat A prisoners were paid barely anything and didn't stay in the role for long. It's a prison with awful conditions now due to the constant budget cuts over the last 15 years.

With more resources and more experienced staff it would have been much easier to protect prisoners from each other in 1992. And unfortunately more protection for prison officers too. No one is going to shed any tears about Ian Watkins being stabbed because he was a depraved human but prisoners should be safe in prisons.

Yeah. I didn’t say otherwise or disagree.

What I said was in most cases sex offenders, of minor or otherwise, are not segregated from the general population in custody.

Pay conditions were worsening back then and it’s not stopped but yes, they past 15 years have made a once decent service, unrecognisable.

This prisoner was killed at unlock by another prisoner on the same unit. This does not mean he is a sex offender and it doesn’t mean he isn’t. That’s my point. Also, nobody should want to shake his hand

The Lost Prophets still have 281k monthly listeners on Spotify. How weird.

Probably other peados reveering the scumbag! He ruined one of my fave bands forever. #proudtobefromWakefield

I take it you missed the obvious irony in the OP's post?

You think they’re upset by someone calling them a nonce? 🤣 mate

??? Confused

Missing the point much ?? MATE.

Google what NONCE stands for, and you will discover that you are in fact, wrong, with your claim that sex offenders are not at risk from other prisoners.

I think prison can be worse than death. I wish this has happened on the day he was due to be released.

This with hostage takings again and again to put the fear in to him just like he did to his victims absolute despicable excuse for a human.

@CrystalShoe

I've always heard that paedophiles are housed together in the same wing, separate from the prisoners who are not child abusers.

So as far as I'm aware, child abusers are not by themselves, in solitary confinement, but housed with fellow child abusers.

That's why I think it's a very good possibility that the murderer is a child abuser themselves.

Because why would someone who'd done the same crime slit Watkins' throat?

They could have a reason for it that's unrelated to his offences. Watkins was apparently attacked two years ago in prison and it was due to a drug debt and something to do with the ladies who were visiting him - nothing to do with him being a paedophile.

It's possible that this could be a similar scenario. His killer could be a paedophile and so their motive may not be outrage at Watkins' crimes.

I read that the prison housed serial killers and murderers though, so how do we know he was not targeted by a prisoner(s) who does not have any child related crime ? I find it hard to believe another child abuser would attack another in this way, but that’s me. Generally, in the prison population, they operate a bit of an unwritten hierarchy and its child abusers and paedophiles that are of the lowest of the chain.

RandomGeocache · 11/10/2025 19:50

Well this is all rather distasteful.

Yes the man did horrible things and was locked away for a very long time as a consequence. However, posters are trying to outdo each other by being the most happy, the most delighted, the most ecstatic at his passing. It's very odd.

I completely agree. The vast, vast majority of people agree that paedophilia is utterly abhorrent. It's hardly a bold or refreshing take. There's really no need for competitive outrage at Watkin's crimes or those rushing to declare how tickled pink they are that he's been murdered. Not to mention all the ignorant comments about "guards looking the other way" or paramedics and doctors being in no rush to try to save him from people who clearly have no clue what they're talking about.

Oh god, I’m not sure if I can. Thanks for responding/clarifying though. Not sure where these court docs are… it’s one of the worst cases of padophilia I’ve ever come across. Crazy to think he was a lead singer of a band. Such cognitive dissonance.

Some people have linked to the court documents on the thread if you did want to, but if not I’ll try to explain- that if you’ve read to was convicted of “attempted rape” that might lead you to believe he was just plotting and didn’t do anything physically to the baby, but that rape has a specific legal definition that has to occur for rape to have been committed and that “attempted rape”, in this case means that rape was physically attempted but wasn’t successfully (for want of a better word) completed, remembering that this is a ten month old baby we are talking about.

We don't know for sure, I just assumed that fellow child abusers would have easier access to Ian Watkins if they are housed with him?

I was a huge fan of Lostprophets in my teens and had multiple posters of Ian on my wall.

Was genuinely beyond shocked and disgusted when he was arrested and charged, and the court transcripts were utterly horrific.

There’s a very special place in hell for people like him, and the 2 mothers that offered up their babies for him to abuse.

😳

They do say nothing is as good for one's career in the music industry as death, and his career had certainly stagnated somewhat of late. Personally, I think this particular death is about to test that theory.

(Fingers crossed LP doesn't get a number 1 Christmas hit now).

I don’t think that’s necessarily the case… I read of previous attack from 3 other inmates who dragged him into a cell and attacked him. Prison guards had to throw stun grenades in to get him out.

My gut feeling is it’s more likely to be someone with a history of murder who has done something like this than a sex offender however that really is a gut feeling and I don’t have stats or further info to back that assertion.

FTHC · 11/10/2025 20:39

CryMyEyesViolet · 11/10/2025 17:50

Well I’m truly astounded that people listen to music and think about the lead singer and their life while listening to it.

I don’t hear an R Kelly song and immediately think - sex trafficker, or an MJ song and not enjoy it because of paedophilia allegations. It’s separating art and artist I suppose.

And there were other people in that band whose livelihoods he destroyed. I’d be more than happy to enjoy their work and have them be paid royalties for it.

I used to I love lostprophets music, and have seen them live. I have not listened to a single song since he was convicted in 2013.

Read the sentencing remarks and you'll understand why I cannot listen to a second of what that evil, vile man wrote.

I hope he spends for ever in purgatory choking on his own blood. Hell is too good for that scumbag.

I have wondered it in some ways the mothers are worse. How can you do that to your own child? Your own flesh and blood that primitively you are there to protect?!?

I don't see any competitive outrage over his crimes (the "outrage" in this thread isn't really any different from the judge's remarks).

As to the glee at the death of a heinous individual - its a pretty normal, human response and a cathartic one.

The holier-than-thou posts just get an eyeroll from me.

After having read the court documents I am firmly convinced the mothers are at least as bad as him, if not worse.

I cannot imagine being an active participant in the abuse of my own child. I hope the children have a strong support network around them and all the therapy they need - thankfully it appears from the documents as though there won’t be lasting physical effects, but who knows about psychologically?
