I am being unreasonable - about vapes - but feel I should get this off my chest

I don’t like vaping or smoking, both vile habits. I don’t think that’s unusual.

However, I find vaping and vapers so much more irritating that smokers.

I have no idea why. I just think smoking, if you do it, feels like the “real deal”, and maybe still has an entirely unjustified slight residual air of “cool”.

Vaping just seems so pathetic, walking around, clutching their vape, clouds of kiwi flavoured smoke billowing behind them.

Anyway, I feel better for that, and look forward to confirmation that I’m unreasonable.

I should add I’ve never smoked or vaped.

I smoked as a teenager, but not since, and I totally agree with you OP.

I judge people that vape hard.

People that smoke don't walk around clutching a cigarette all the time, taking a suck every 30 seconds.

Vapes look perfectly ridiculous - the colours, the shit branding, the size of some of them.

The smell is absolutely vile.

I'm sick of walking through clouds of other people's lung.

Cigarettes at least have an air of nihilism about them. And while I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, I much prefer it to a smog of sickly sweet Blueberry Haze or whatever the fuck.

If I was queen I would ban flavoured vape juice and make all vapes taste like cigarettes. They were supposed to help people quit smoking, and they just get sucked on MORE.

I hate them too but im glad it made my husband stop smoking. But vapers are far ruder with vapes than they were with cigarettes. Im sick of clouds of other people's lungs too

I volunteer as part of a litter picking group and vape packets, paper inserts and actual vapes are amongst the most common litter we find.

The venn diagram of vapers and litterers has a BIG overlap.

Cigarette smokers are more mindful of other people's health and fresh air.

Totally agree. Against both but something about vaping is sooo pathetic, unless you’re actually doing it to quit smoking

How can you prefer the smell of cigarette smell to vape smell?? I wouldn’t be too judgmental, they help getting people away from cigarettes. Yes, they are still addictive, nicotine is incredibly addictive. They’re not amazing for you but they are hugely better than cigarettes! I smoked, then moved onto vapes, then to nicotine lozenges and now have given up - they really helped!

I find people who vape far less considerate than smokers. The thick cloud of strawberry cheesecake they bellow out of their lungs every 5 minutes knocks me sick. It’s especially annoying when they are sneaking a puff in the pub/shop/plane like a bloody naughty child.

I find them much less considerate - at least most smokers try and smoke downwind of you... vapers just burst out a cloud and don't seem to care who gets caught in their smog.

Plus their rubbish is far worse and in some places they are allowed to do it indoors, which is also horrible for those who don't wish to breathe in chemicals.

I am with you on this one - it's almost like the socially acceptable face of making other people breathe in your toxins.

I hate both - but vape smell is worse. Tobacco is a natural, earthy smell. It's pungent, but not sickly. Vapes smell so so sickly.

I should have caveated my judgemental rant with, vapes are an important way for many people to stop smoking.

But I personally don't know anyone that has successfully used them to stop smoking. My sister tried and now vapes more than she ever smoked and has no intention of giving up. My cleaner vapes in my house and have done for years.

I salute you, but the people that swap one habit for another and then lean into it, suck on it harder and walk down the street billowing like Thomas the Tank Engine but make it your 6-year old's perfume... I JUDGE.

Why would you judge so much though? It’s still FAR better for them than smoking! And cigarette smell lingers and smells awful after a while, vape smell doesn’t stick to your clothes the same way

I know what you mean. Vapers are constantly vaping. They have a high level of dependence. Addiction is strong. Smokers go hours between cigarettes.

I work behalf the bar in a little pub and people vape inside all the time. I hate it - at least smokers have to step outside for a fag!

God same. I much prefer people smoking, vaping just reminds me of teenagers.

I’m laughing here at the idea that smokers are more considerate. That’s because smoking has become so socially unacceptable that smokers are now seen as the devil incarnate. They have no choice but to keep their addiction away from others. No judgement by the way. It’s a horrible habit, but I appreciate how hard it is to give up, having watched several family members struggle with it. I’m not exactly over the moon about people vaping around me, but if vaping helps them give up smoking, great.

I think the people are the problem. I have two friends who vape very discreetly. I wouldn't know except I see them vaping. There is no smell, and certainly no billowing clouds.

That’s because a cigarette provides a long lasting hit, whereas a vape has lower concentrations of nicotine and needs to be inhaled more often to give the same buzz. I learned this from my teenage son who unfortunately went through a phase of smoking and vaping. He has since managed to give up both, which I am immensely relieved about.

You're laughing at other people's experiences? Okay. We don't live your life, you don't live ours. Vaping is a massive litter issue and I can't walk down the high street of my city without being accosted with pick'n'mix vapour in my face which just hangs in the air. Don't love smoking either, but I can't remember the time anyone let it blow back in my face...

I was seated at a gig recently and the man in front kept puffing on a vape every few minutes. It wasn't like the disposable stick vapes that smell fruity. It looked like a metal box about the size of a cigarette box. He kept breathing out a cloud of really acrid smelling smoke.

I have Sjogren's syndrome which causes dry eye, dry nasal passages and a dry mouth. Whatever was in the smoke caused irritation to my eyes and nose. I ended up unwell the day after the gig with inflammation in my eyes, nose and mouth.

I did ask him to stop it but he just claimed it was water vapour and harmless. I also asked a steward to ask him to stop but they just shrugged and did nothing. I also wasn't allowed to move seats or go into standing to get away from him. His behaviour really ruined the gig for me.

I hate smoking but I really find vaping bizarre. It just looks so odd - like an adult dummy.

Completely agree, OP. The litter and plastic waste is the worst thing, closely followed by the Opal Fruits/Haribo stench.

It's like the UPF version of smoking.
