I am being unreasonable - about vapes - but feel I should get this off my chest

I don’t like vaping or smoking, both vile habits. I don’t think that’s unusual.

However, I find vaping and vapers so much more irritating that smokers.

I have no idea why. I just think smoking, if you do it, feels like the “real deal”, and maybe still has an entirely unjustified slight residual air of “cool”.

Vaping just seems so pathetic, walking around, clutching their vape, clouds of kiwi flavoured smoke billowing behind them.

Anyway, I feel better for that, and look forward to confirmation that I’m unreasonable.

I should add I’ve never smoked or vaped.

I find vapers more annoying but I think maybe that’s just because nowadays you get more of them than you do smokers. And because smoking is more socially unacceptable, I think more (not all!) smokers are a bit more considerate. Whereas more (not all!) vapers are happy to puff the hideous smell in your face.

I think some people on this thread should take up vaping in an attempt to chill the fuck out.

Getting that angry of this stuff is not normal.

I'm finding it quite cathartic tbh. It's good to get weirdly specific shit off your chest.

I do think vaping looks very silly. Sucking away on those pathetic little things. I hate the cloying smell too.

I also think vapers are more selfish than smokers. We went to a nice hotel in the Caribbean this year. Loads of gorgeous outdoor spaces and bars. Loads of areas clearly designated for smokers and vapers away from the busy areas. Yet it was the arsehole vapers that ignored this. They were sneakily dragging on their silly vapes when sitting at the bars, even in the bloody swimming pools. So incredibly selfish.

Smokers have been forced to keep their habit away from the general population (for very good reasons.) They aren’t being considerate out of the goodness of their hearts. They are following the law. They have become social pariahs. I find it hilarious that they are now seen as considerate by some posters on here, when really they have been forced to skulk in the darkest corners out of shame and embarrassment. So no, not laughing at people’s experiences. Laughing at their perception of smokers as the ‘good guys’ compared to those pesky vapers.

The contents of peoples.lungs is all around you all the time, you just can't see it. Vapour makes it visible, that's it.

Am I the only one who is going to take up smoking cigarettes after this thread? The way people have described it sounds so appealing - “natural, earthy smell”, “The real deal” Plus, apparently I’ll look really cool 😎 and of course, I’ll be more considerate!

If you stand talking to someone smoking, they blow the smoke to the side, turning their head. It's not the law to do that. It's an act of consideration.

Vapers don't show the same consideration. Presumably because they assume that as the smoke isn't carcinogenic and smells of Cloudberry Daze, it's all good.

To be clear, I'm not a fan of smokers either really. But vapers vape more than smokers smoke, and smokers are more careful to try and minimise the impact of their habit on others. Not really fussed whether some of that is driven by legal obligation. It still makes them less annoying.

It may be specific to me, I'll give you that, but I really dislike people blowing in my face, or forcibly breathing in my face. Yes, lung exhalations are all around - it's the force.

Well yes. That is why I started smoking. It looked cool.

I remember smoking at 13 🤢. I wanted to sound mature, so when people would ask why I smoked, I’d say “Oh, it’s to help with stress” 🤣. Erm, what stress?! I just repeated what I used to hear my Mum say but yes, I too thought I looked super cool with my nicotine stained yellow nails, smelling like an ashtray.

I’d never smoke now. No matter how ‘cool’ I might look.

I thought Philip Schofield puffing on his Lost Mary when he gave his woe is me interview after he got sacked, would have driven any street cred for vapes away!

It’s not street cred for me, it keeps me off cigarettes and was the only thing to break a 20 year, 30 a day habit. MN and the early vapers thread helped a lot

I really dislike the sickly cloying vape smells though and I agree that people vale when and where they would never smoke, so it feels more intrusive. Some adults do look like toddlers with dummies - not a good look.

My nearest shop to pop into whenni need to grab a pint now milk is also a vape shop.

Im.amazed at the amountnof grown adults that spend 5 minutes at the counter agonising which flavour Vapes to buy in the endless special deals the shop seems to have. I watch and wondering they've anybidea how comical/daft/pathetic they look looking and ahhhing over whether to get fruit cocktail or apple or tutti fruity or cherry or fuck knows whatever else nasty fake chemically vile smelling vape they want.

Totally agree. Vaping is a disgusting habit, I really don’t enjoy being exposed to second vape juice from these adult dummies!

I watched both my parents die slow, miserable, painful deaths from smoking related illness (stroke and lung cancer).

I'd rather be a bit less chill than fill my lungs with chemicals that are almost certainly going to do me no good at all.

It is normal to be a bit pissed off with the litter caused by vaping.

Posters on this thread don't seem angry to me. They seem bemused that people would choose a new and unpleasant way of spending their money in order to potentially fuck themselves, the environment and perhaps the people around them up.
