I am being unreasonable - about vapes - but feel I should get this off my chest

I don’t like vaping or smoking, both vile habits. I don’t think that’s unusual.

However, I find vaping and vapers so much more irritating that smokers.

I have no idea why. I just think smoking, if you do it, feels like the “real deal”, and maybe still has an entirely unjustified slight residual air of “cool”.

Vaping just seems so pathetic, walking around, clutching their vape, clouds of kiwi flavoured smoke billowing behind them.

Anyway, I feel better for that, and look forward to confirmation that I’m unreasonable.

But I vape. I vape a cigarettey flavour menthol one. It doesn't give off clouds of smoke and I am reasonably good at not puffing on it a lot. 10ml of liquid will last a month.

Its basically a dummy at the moment and I need to take it away but cant let the last bit go.

I cant - but can, believe these "nice" flavours have been marketed to people who if they are wandering around puffing on strawberry cherry flavour would more than likely never have smoked.

I was at a few events last week with 19-25 year olds who had NEVER had a cigarette and all of us oldies who were either on low/no nicotine vapes or still on proper fags ( how the expense? But thats another day) couldn't comprehend why?

They made up so much more of the 'smoking' demographic than any other age

Yet probably would have grown up with if not non smoking parents, at least parents who didn't smoke indoors as that had died down by 2000s or were non or purely social smokers.

But then why on earth did I smoke a silk cut at 14....it definitely wasnt nice
Im sure others will find fruit or sweet vapes really pleasant/cool.

I really want to stop in my rational mind. My additive mind wont let me. I have in the past for quite long periods but stress always drags me back. But ill never smoke cigarettes again, the lingering smell on hair and clothes and breath is no longer for me.

The smell of a freshly it cigarette is so so good. Especially in the summer for some reason. I have no wish to put one in my mouth however.

Both my parents were heavy smokers when I was a child, so I guess I was a smoker too in effect. I never really minded the smell, and I ADORED the smell of a just-blown-out match,

Yanbu. I find vaping absolutely pathetic. I work in private healthcare and do 90% of my job remotely. At our last in person social event, my boss, whom I respected enormously until this, was suckling on his vape all night. At an indoor venue. Secretively. Part of our role is to encourage healthy living and not only was I surprised he vaped but it was those sickly scents and he was nursing it all night. It's very much downgraded my view on him

I'm a vaper and I agree with you. I'm a few months off cigarettes and vaping is helping me stay that way. I very much hope to get off the vape eventually too, but in the meantime I apologise for my obnoxious cloud! 😬

agree. It’s pathetic and I’m embarrassed for them. It’s of a piece with a weird soft blubbery gormlessness that some young people have, unashamedly, that a gen-x-er would die rather than display. They look as if they actually put on the dreadful cagoules that their mums make them carry when it threatens rain. They probably put the hoods up and tie them under their chins. They seem to be sort of in babies’ pyjamas all the time, even if their clothes dont actually look like pyjamas, which half the time they do. How can anyone fancy them? Probably the reason for no babies being born

Because vapers vape more than smokers smoke. It goes beyond addiction into compulsion, and it just looks really really pathetic. I know I'm being judgy, and yet. Seeing adults sucking obsessively on a piece of neon plastic that never, ever leaves their hand is really lame to me.

I judge adult vapers so hard, it's the dependency that makes it come across pathetic. I work with 2 people -one guy aged in his 20s, another a lady in her 50s, who must spend at least an hour a day in total away from their desks for vape breaks - this is on top of toilet /coffee breaks and an hour's lunch (big headoffice with hot desks so no one senior around to notice). These same 2 people,.on a work meal, stepped out for a vape 7 times in the 90minutes we were at the restaurant, so basically just under every 15 minutes. Sorry it's going to sound like I have a vendetta against these 2 but I find them both so annoying - At a course a few months ago, it was a packed schedule and we all agreed with the trainer that we'd keep breaks to a minimum so that we could leave early and miss the traffic. Yet every time there was a comfort break, the 2 of them would swan off outside for a few puffs and not come back until 15 minutes later. The lack of will power really disturbs me

I've recently quit cigarettes and I'm doing patches plus e-cigarettes. I'm bemused at people hating vapers more than smokers 🤣 I thought we were the Kings of Scum.

It's so rare now to smell cigarette smoke. I miss it, it IS cool and nihilistic.

If people smoked in the same number that vapers vape, the target would still be on their backs, but now the behaviour has shifted to vaping.

In all seriousness, I don't really care what other people do as long as it doesn't impact anyone else, and well done for making a positive decision to improve your health.

Just be a mindful vaper and try and minimise the impact of the smog on other people.

Not really. If people walked around coughing all the time, the droplets had a colour you could see, and you were downstream of it, you'd be pretty grossed out. It's the same with vaping. It's the contents of someone's lungs being forcibly exhaled in a stream in my direction, constantly.

I don't like people coughing in my face, I don't like them blowing in my face, I don't like breathing in their secondhand vape juice.

It's the adult equivalent of a baby's dummy. Vapers have absolutely foul breath.

Because smokers' mouths have deep wrinkles, and they're not pursing up and sucking for nearly as long vapers are.

Vapers should go outside too after all it is a smoking device.
