I am being unreasonable - about vapes - but feel I should get this off my chest

I don’t like vaping or smoking, both vile habits. I don’t think that’s unusual.

However, I find vaping and vapers so much more irritating that smokers.

I have no idea why. I just think smoking, if you do it, feels like the “real deal”, and maybe still has an entirely unjustified slight residual air of “cool”.

Vaping just seems so pathetic, walking around, clutching their vape, clouds of kiwi flavoured smoke billowing behind them.

Anyway, I feel better for that, and look forward to confirmation that I’m unreasonable.

Agree. But my concern is that - although cigarettes are harmful - I don’t think vapes are as harmless as some people think. Huge amount of chemicals, vapour that is being taken deep into lungs, constantly on hand, and being used by youngsters whose lungs are being damaged. I hate the smell of cigarettes but also walking behind folks giving off huge wafts of berry steam.

I have severe asthma and if I ask people to blow cigarette smoke the other way, or swap paces with me so it doesn’t blow over me they are squally happy. Vapers just say it isn’t smoke and ignore me.

Agree to people sneakily vaping indoors though - rude and smelly!

Yes those bloody vapers who chug it on the plane thinking no one has smelt it. Makes me cough too

Research is only just coming out now about how bad vaping is and people think that it's ok the vape near others. Like there's nothing wrong with it. 🤮 My mum was terrible at vaping and it's actually damaged her heart. She's been in and out of hospital all year with heart failure.

Oh I don't know, when you are sat a table next to a smoker (more of an issue overseas than here now) and they love to stretch their arm out and point their smouldering cigarette at the next table! An atrocious habit when what they are smoking is carcinogenic.

I kind of agree, my partner stopped but he isn't if an addictive personality and used to smoke at most ten cigs a day, he swapped it for vaping and it did annoy me because in the evenings he'd suck on the thing like a dummy and id be watching TV through fog! He had a chest infection at one point and stopped vaping and just didn't feel like vaping ever again. But I think you're right, a lot of people don't take the next step - I also kept telling my partner that he was starting to sound like he had sleep apnea at night! That reversed once he stopped vaping.

I would be pissed off if anyone did that on a plane I was on because if they set a smoke alarm off they might trigger an emergency landing and lot of delays for people getting to where they are going.

I think it's because smoking is seen as almost a social taboo now, so vapers think they're superior.

Like, look at me with my big plumes of stinky smoke that isn't really smoke so you can't say anything against it. Na-na-nana-nah!

But I know what you mean re vapers having to take a drag so often and wherever they are.

I think people sensory seek alot more these days. Maybe because we’re getting more isolated from real life interactions?

Vaping gives you a hit on a frequent basis.

Diacetyl was banned from UK vaping products in 2016.

My thoughts on vapes is that they were meant to be cessation devices, not for constantly sucking on all day for the rest of your life! I think it remains to be seen whether society starts to see real increases in respiratory diseases because vapes are missed! Not to mention juices vary in quality so some could be horrendous chemical compounds!

I remember being in our large wetherspoons beer garden the other year and it was like adolescent village of the damned! All the girls identical hair, make up and outfits, the lads all in black jumpers and same hairdos, beer garden full of them and every one sucking on disposable vapes! They were never meant to be a teen trend for people that had never smoked in the first place! The futures bleak if you're vaping like mad from being a teenager as like others have said it's a far greater nicotine intake if you are sucking it all day! And of course these are people who probably wouldn't have smoke ordinary cigs but fell for the pretty coloured vapes & exciting flavours.

Yes the litter has definitely been a problem especially in areas around colleges that have shops nearby that sell them.

My partner did use a vape to get off smoking and packed in using vapes without issue as he hasn't got an addictive personality but without shadow of a doubt, once he'd finished puffing away on his vape in the evenings, his nasal passages used to sound awful in bed, I really felt like he was getting sleep apnea!

This thread has made me laugh. I have never smoked or vaped but to suggest that smokers are more considerate than vapers is funny to me. Maybe nowadays as smokers are so few in number and have been 'educated ' as to appropriate behaviour since the smoke they give off is so harmful to others.

Try telling those of us non smokers who used to sit in pubs, cinemas, aeroplanes, shops,offices inhaling thick wafts of cigarette smoke and coming home with clothes and hair reeking of stale tobacco the next day, that smoking is better than vaping. It really really is not.

As for the smoking looks 'cooler' [[hmm)]. This is because Hollywood actors made it look cool, before we knew how dangerous it is to your health. None of us who lived with 40 a day smokers ( waves to my dad) thought it was cool

Not in my experience. I find that smokers are far worse than vapers.

It is this. Vapers vape constantly and as someone who is not an addict it is infuriating. Smokers tend to go outside and also generally smoke less frequently so their smoke can be a avoided. Not the stink though. Sitting next to a smoker who has just come in is awful
