To ask if most straight men are attracted much younger women?

Had a depressing moment at work today, male colleague played a Jimmy Carr stand-up clip on his phone and it went along the lines of “if I had to pick my favourite child it would be my neighbour’s hot daughter.” The other men with him laughed at it. I couldn’t help feeling a bit nauseous and it’s made me question whether many older straight men actually do fantasise about girls in their late teens or whatever. Perhaps I have been naive to think it was something that just appealed to a minority of perverts. One or two of them have daughters too and it just strikes me as odd that they could even laugh at a joke like that. Am I naive to feel this way?

I think this is common too. Many adult women find men under about 25 too "unfinished" looking, almost like boys. I felt that way by the time I was 16 myself.

I don't think our biology has much care for the idea that age gaps are a problem.

I think men of all ages find young women sexually attractive. But many older ones wouldn't try and act on it. As they'd feel the age gap would be inappropriate.

Plenty of women in their fifties might fancy a 25 yo, but I think they are more likely to feel a kind of motherly feeling which would often stop sexual desire.

Yes this. There is a depressing graph with age of men on one axis and the age of women they are attracted to on the other.

Regardless of the age of the man, they were all most attracted to 22-23 year olds on average. Even the 80 year olds.

The last stage of puberty is in your early 20s and women in their early 20s are at peak fertility, not teenagers and particularly not young teens! The nature argument doesn't really work here

I think people have really lost their humour... by hot I think he women meant late teens, who are pretty much fully developed women. Men by nature are visual creatures, I'm straight but you could understand why the would look at a younger women with all the bumps in the right places, who doesn't have the scars of child birth etc.

But I do think men of all ages, even elderly men, like younger women, yes.
Some men like older women too, but all men like younger women.

Looking at family tree type stuff it seems 15 year age gaps were common in the past, meant men could build their career (and sow their wild oats no doubt) before settling down with a woman in their peak child rearing years. Of course at least in middle class families women wouldn’t be working so the age gap at retirement wasn’t as issue and women are “useful” later in life once their husband has passed away

Maybe you’re right, I don’t know. I just see a 16 year old girl as a child still and the thought of a bloke in his fifties/sixties lusting after that, particularly when they’re a father of a teenage girl, just gives me the ick.

I thought the jimmy carr joke was hilarious and I’m a 43 year old woman. Fairly sure jc is not a paedophile and as pp said, it’s the context and delivery that make it funny, it’s clearly not his true feelings on the matter it’s meant to provoke shock as it’s so outrageous a concept. He’s a comedian, it’s a joke, and actually doesn’t necessarily reflect anything other than that.

And most of us are at our most physically attractive in our youth (yes MOST, before you come at me with your exceptions). That doesn't necessarily translate into people fancying or wanting to be with someone from that age group.

Like I said before, it’s not about how funny Jimmy Carr is, it’s a wider discussion about men and what they are attracted to. Also, how we accept what they are attracted to. Guess my peri menopausal body is not as hot as I might hope! 😂

Of course it works. Males are competing with countless other males. So, the earlier they can find a mate, before she’s snapped up by someone else, the better. Also, nature only cares about reproduction. So, the earlier a female starts having children, the more children she can have in her lifetime. We are descended from the males who pursued this strategy.

But this isn't true. In nature teen pregnancy is very risky - teens aren't fully developed, have narrower hips, and much more likely to die in childbirth.

LOL, that's a myth that has never been true. Men do not all get more attractive with age (and not moreso than women!) I see far more women who look good in their 50s and 60s than men. Many men (after 45) get a pot belly, they are balding, they look older than their age, they dress like shit, and they think they still look like they did at 30.

I think middle aged men who go for/look at girls as young as 16 are repugnant and vile, but it's understandable that they find younger women attractive. Men are attracted to what they see, women are attracted to what they hear. Then again, I find younger men more attractive (like in their 30s, and early 40s...) than men my own age...

I am late 50s, and if me and DH split up, hell would freeze over before I would get with a man of my own age. I just couldn't be fucked with a man of nearly 60 LOL. Then again, I know a man under 55 very likely wouldn't want me. So I would stay on my own. Rather that than be with a man of 60!

Teenagers love having sex. They can’t get enough of it. If it was a losing evolutionary strategy, that simply wouldn’t be the case. How could it be?

Interestingly I found that many of the ‘right on’ (straight) men I knew when I was younger were very into younger women. The number of aging hippies hitting on young ‘uns was kind of unpleasant. The more ‘straight’ / conservative guys didn’t - but I don’t know if that’s just because they hid it better, perhaps because they felt it wasn’t a socially acceptable thing to admit to? Having said that, looking at my track record, I have great taste in gay male friends, and bloody awful taste in straight men!

I don't know if it's most but given my experiences when I was a young looking teenager in a school uniform I'd say there are a lot. It made me feel uncomfortable at the time but it wasn't until I got older that I realised just how disgusting it was. Middle age men who probably had daughters the same age as me were making sexual comments towards me, it's sickening.

I was about to mention the popularity of teen porn too.

Most men start to get receding hair as soon as they approach 30 (it’s amazing how an hairline can make such a difference to how hot a guy is but it does) and most men in their 50s have beer bellies, a reddening face and their noses get fatter. You very rarely see an older man who doesn’t have a dad bod. It’s just that some men are deluded and think they are entitled to date rich, 25 year old supermodels no matter what.

This idea that ‘men age like fine wine and women age like milk’ is a misogynistic trope, no doubt designed by a man somewhere to keep women in their places.

I also think that women age better, and it was only recently that I read a bit more about it and I agree even more now.

If I saw a much older man with a young woman I would think he is definitely not a poor old man.

Whereas lots of young men, find much older women attractive, regardless of their wealth. They are really into them.

Women just seem to be looking better as they get older.

I know my partner would never look at a young woman or teenager in that way.
