Sadiq Khan. Can anyone tell me something positive about what he has done?

So the past few days I've unfortunately gone down a bit of a rabbit hole of clips about the Mayor of London.

From what I have seen the man is an utter buffoon who has done nothing to improve London, in fact quite the opposite.

Strikes increasing. Homelessness increasing. Crime - off the charts. Congestion zone charges etc.

And don't get me started on the deputy who seems to be from another planet!

I am not from London, so just wondering if anyone at all has anything positive at all to say about this catastrophe of man!

Pissed off Donald Trump. (Not a Londoner so can't comment with anything intelligent)

Free school meals for all primary school children. Saved me a lot of money

Over riding the council who tried to block the development of new buildings.

Kept the price of buses low and introduced the unlimited buses within 1 hour. I only really respected this when I travelled outside of London and experienced the expensive slow arse buses!

It’s not really free though is it - the tax payer is funding it.

Free school meals, cleaner air, transport improvements like the superloop (a bloody god send)

That's the difference between living in London and only getting access to the incessant anti Sadiq media content which has no relation to reality.

Sadie Khan is not perfect but he has made real improvements to public transport and the environment. He has also worked hard on community relations, especially between the Jewish and Muslim communities.

Jewish Londoners are not happy with him at the moment….

I realise that but he has made efforts - e.g. he apologised to the Chief Rabbi after his comments about Gaza and Islamophobia. He has tried, which is more than many politicians.

JamDisaster · 09/10/2025 00:21

He’s an excellent mayor which is why he keeps being reelected. Air quality, free school meals, transport- he’s done a lot of good stuff. Doesn’t mean he gets everything right of course, and he’s been helped by fact that other parties don’t put up a serious candidate because they’re so likely to lose.

He attracts a lot of weird interest from racists who don’t even live here. Please don’t spread that nonsense here. Better to debate the substance.

You might want to ask yourself, OP, why there are so many videos about how awful he is from people who don’t even live in London. What is it about him specifically that makes them so angry?

I've lived in London all my life. This man has ruined our once great city. The sooner he's gone, the better.

Jumpingthruhoops · 09/10/2025 00:33

RockaLock · 08/10/2025 20:15

Some of the things that PPs have listed as Sadiq Khan’s achievements aren’t his at all.

He became Mayor of London in 2016.

Elizabeth line - construction started in 2009, way before he was mayor. It is purely coincidence that it opened during his term. I mean, if you are going to list that as one of his achievements, you should surely also attribute the 3 year delay and £4bn overspend to him as well. (Yes, I know they were nothing to do with him - but that’s the point, isn’t it).

ULEZ - was proposed by Boris Johnson in 2014 and originally scheduled to start in 2020. Admittedly Khan pushed ahead with it, but it was not his idea.

Some tube drivers are also RMT members and so the RMT does organise underground driver strikes. There have been plenty of tube strikes since Khan became mayor! and as he is ultimately in charge of TfL, yes, they come under his remit. But tube drivers would strike no matter who was mayor, they always want more and more money, so 🤷‍♀️

He’s not as terrible as some people make out, but he’s certainly not as good as some people seem to think either.

This! 👏👏

So why do you care?

Presumably because it’s our capital city and important for the whole country that it’s run efficiently?

I wasn’t sure what sort of mayor he was proving to be as I no longer live in London, but there are so many positive comments on this thread which are pleasing to read.

In what ways do you think that he’s ruined London? I only come into central London these days, which seems fairly unchanged to me.

tinylittlepiggy · 09/10/2025 01:22

troll... ignore ..

imfabul0us · 09/10/2025 01:33

@countbackfromten Loving all the Londoners just telling @Luckymum20 the reality of living here and have our mayor doing so much for the city!
This.

The racist abuse he gets is truly appalling -when I travel outside London, I’m shocked at the shite people believe about him. I love living in a city where our Muslim mayor is at the front of the Pride parade.
Is the OP another bot/Daily Mail reporter by any chance?

imfabul0us · 09/10/2025 01:45

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 08/10/2025 22:08

Yes...Instigated by a man who insists on a cavalcade of range rovers to chauffeur him everywhere (this isnt hyperbole - it's literal)

The hypocrisy is just painful.

@SalmonOnFinnCrisp
Sadly, he has to have protection because of the many racist death threats against him.

SocksAndTheCity · 09/10/2025 01:57

I love the thread too @imfabul0us , although I suspect it's failed on whatever result OP was hoping for Grin

How has he ruined it? (speaking as a Londoner)

CurlewKate · 09/10/2025 02:07

Several posters saying “I hate the guy but I love (X positive thing he has done)” I wonder why that is?

Yes. Building more affordable housing, fares frozen.
Loads of things.
I'm happy with him.

JE001 · 09/10/2025 03:08

Do you live in London, OP? I don't, but I visit frequently, and I have noticed a lot of positive changes in the time that Sir Sadiq Khan has been mayor. The centre is a much more pleasant place to walk and cycle and bus transport is really efficient and cheap. The people I know in London are happy with the free school meals programme and the investments in youth clubs, and they tell me that there is more social housing now available.

Strictlycomeparent · 09/10/2025 04:53

ULEZ - my asthmatic child who was frequently hospitalised hasn’t been admitted to hospital since it came into effect in our area. I was skeptical about it making a difference but actually my child was being poisoned and he protected her.

daisychain01 · 09/10/2025 05:08

Life of Brian springs to mind ....

what have the Romans ever done for us? ...

Well...apart from sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, roads, the fresh water system, public health ... what have the Romans ever done for us?"

So you don’t even live in london so how does it affect you then?!

for me my kids get free school meals

i can cycle everywhere with my kids on the back of my bike because of the safe routes and less cars on the roads

id vote for him again for sure

Coolasfeck · 09/10/2025 05:26

If you don’t live in London on why are you so fixated on our mayor? Do you conduct deep research into the leadership of your local council and if not why? What are your views on the other metropolitan mayors.

This fixation on Khan is deeply strange.

WildLimePoet · 09/10/2025 06:04

Nothing. He is an absolute disaster. Totally ineffective and thick as mince. But the far left love him so they’ll defend him on this thread.

There was an ongoing TFL strike before he started as Mayor which he resolved straight away.
Improving air pollution and free school meals

Tube drivers are still on strike every other week
