Sadiq Khan. Can anyone tell me something positive about what he has done?

So the past few days I've unfortunately gone down a bit of a rabbit hole of clips about the Mayor of London.

From what I have seen the man is an utter buffoon who has done nothing to improve London, in fact quite the opposite.

Strikes increasing. Homelessness increasing. Crime - off the charts. Congestion zone charges etc.

And don't get me started on the deputy who seems to be from another planet!

I am not from London, so just wondering if anyone at all has anything positive at all to say about this catastrophe of man!

Is that you Donald?

When people say 'serious' crime has reduced under him what do they mean. I live in zone 3 north London in what was previously a very safe area and since he has been mayor, crime has increased significantly. To the point we really feel unsafe. Not just petty theft like phone muggings - break ins, violent robberies, cars being smashed in our cul de sac street, Uber divers being attacked and robbed - lists go on. These things never happened before. Could be other factors but not really understanding those who say serious crime has reduced as its not what i've experienced at all.

Usual race grifters running to the dog whistle. Call anyone not agreeing with them far right bots!

Nervesarepoor · 10/10/2025 01:48

Crime is low? Did somebody forget the machete wielding gangs. Labour luvvie thread.

Cleaning up London’s air has saved hundreds (1000s?) of lives. He’s pedestrianised key bits of central London and plans more (Oxford st! Such a great idea..) Sadiq Khan is the best mayor London’s ever had. I presume you don’t live in London otherwise you’d know all of this already?

euff · 10/10/2025 05:50

Have lived in outer London in a statistically low crime borough for 45 years. I felt safer two years ago than 10/20/30 years ago. Now starting to feel uneasy again but that’s not due to Khan.

Nestingbirds · 10/10/2025 06:31

Most crime is not reported.

TooManyFools · 10/10/2025 07:26

I really like him. He is a supporter of LGBTQ rights and also diverse communities living in London. He’s intelligent and likeable. Boris was literally having it off and paying money to the woman he was having it off with, while in office. It’s scandalous! They travelled on a trade show to America together! Sadiq is an upright citizen, which for UK politics is rare these days. I believe the agenda against him is racist. My doctor is from Africa and guess what, I can ALWAYS get an appointment with him. Wonder why? Time to look in the mirror, maybe?

I'm in East London and work right across it. It's far from horrible.

Yes. I do agree with this. This last year I personally feel less safe, but that has everything to do with the hideous, divisive politics happening right now and not with actual crime rate. It's the emboldened Tommy supporting types that scare me now. I have a friend who lives in Epping who is scared to leave her flat because of the abuse she has received from those turning up to the protests.

Runssometimes · 10/10/2025 07:56

@FoodFor also in East London and very far from horrible.

Boris wasted £40 million on a bridge that never happened.
He gave £250,000 to his mistress which was ‘loans’ for her business

The idea for the Garden Bridge came from Joanna Lumley. I can’t stand to watch anything with her in it know knowing that she was so chummy with Boris and thought such a vanity project which privatised open space was a great idea. I read it was £50M of public money…. and nobody ever held to account for this waste. I think Lumley should put her hand in her pocket.

BeanThereDoneIt · 10/10/2025 08:24

Are you taking on board everything people have listed that he’s achieved or are you just looking for an echo chamber similar to the one you found in your rabbit hole?

When your comeback is to compare him to Jimmy Saville on no basis whatsoever you’re really showing your ignorance on the topic. You asked because you didn’t know - people who actually live in London are answering. Perhaps listen?

As to him not ending the tube strikes, which you’ve brought up several times, I hope that professionally I’m judged on what I have achieved and not just what I haven’t…

Keen to know what your agenda is.

I think it's pretty obvious what the OP's agenda is tbh.

Or what their agenda was. They seem to have abandoned the thread when they realised it wasn't going their way.

He's a horrible mayor. Impoverishing us and letting crime run loose. Boris was actually a good mayor.

In what way was Boris a good Mayor?
What policies did he implement that improved people's lives.
All I know about is all the money he wasted on his vanity projects that either didn't come to fruition or were short lived.
I'm genuinely interested to know what he did that was so good.

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 10/10/2025 09:07

Jumpingthruhoops · 10/10/2025 00:08

I think he's also a great ambassador for an open, tolerant and multicultural city. He genuinely loves London.

Couldn't disagree more. His often extreme rhetoric has contributed to a lot of the diviseness we now experience in our city. Many Londoners don't feel he represents them at ALL!

Can you give some examples of this extreme rhetoric?

Agreed - that would be Dame Joanna Lumley….
Sadiq Khan saw that it was a massive waste of money and put the block on it.

Crime measurably fell under Boris. First thing he did as Mayor was ban alcohol consumption on public transport. He expanded cycle hire, got the new routemaster buses. He opened Lee Tunnel to tackle sewage. And let's not forget the success of the London 2012 Olympics.

scorpiogirly · 10/10/2025 09:34

He's decimated London. Deliberately in my opinion. He knows it too as I can tell from the smirk that washes over his disgusting face everytime he's accused of it.

You can see the "benefits" of multiculturalism in London.

So how do you know crime is increasing? If it's not reported, what are you basing your accusations on?
