Sadiq Khan. Can anyone tell me something positive about what he has done?

So the past few days I've unfortunately gone down a bit of a rabbit hole of clips about the Mayor of London.

From what I have seen the man is an utter buffoon who has done nothing to improve London, in fact quite the opposite.

Strikes increasing. Homelessness increasing. Crime - off the charts. Congestion zone charges etc.

And don't get me started on the deputy who seems to be from another planet!

I am not from London, so just wondering if anyone at all has anything positive at all to say about this catastrophe of man!

A lot of the crime in London is due to migration, which Khan doesn’t control. If anything it’s more the Tories fault we’ve had a surge of crime after their 14 years of mass migration.

Do you have a link to the stats on this?

JHound · 09/10/2025 17:18

CurlewKate · 09/10/2025 13:53

I can understand people disagreeing with his politics and policies, but I am puzzled by the personal attacks. I know that his run ins with Susan Hill are spun as misogyny, while her attacks on him are spun as not-racism, but how has he shown himself to be despicable, vile, thick…..?

I genuinely believe a number of his detractors simply have a huge issue with a Muslim mayor of London (you see that with Trump’s obsession with him too.)

earphoneson · 09/10/2025 07:03

So people who are pro him are listing his achievements and posting links, and the few that are opposed are arguing points based on these facts -‘he’s odious’, ‘thick as mince’.

Don't we all love a good discussion.

Head to YouTube and watch him being quizzed in City Hall. The man cannot answer a single question, he's divisive and passive aggressive. That's just for starters...

So the stats are just made up, are they? It must be frustrating when reality doesn’t conform to your prejudices.

Yes. A load of poppycock. I actually live here and see the horrific crime here. London is not safe.

Nothing to do with the fact he's Muslim at all. His main contender once upon a time was a black man, who had loads of support, so absolutely nothing to do with race.

When I lived and worked in London (1980s), it was commonplace among my colleagues to carry a second purse or wallet with a £5 note and a couple of out of date cards in, so that you could hand it over without any significant inconvenience if you got mugged . We worked in a borough with a high rate of street crime and regularly had evening meetings that went on till near midnight.

My London-dwelling nieces and nephews look at me as though I'm mad when I tell them this. They don't think twice about that sort of thing.

This is so interesting and a great idea. Thanks for posting.

That is a very, very lazy assumption. It doesn’t matter what religion he follows, he is not doing London any favours whatsoever and needs to be replaced. I’m struggling to see how taxing the life out of London is helping anyone..

So did Jimmy Savile.

Clearly a troll thread 🥸 Fabulous 🤩

Ketzele · 09/10/2025 21:54

Another Londoner here. I like Khan.

Serpentstooth · 09/10/2025 21:58

He's a better person than you OP and I don't have to know you to confirm that. Back to Reform HQ for your next bait.

TofuEater · 09/10/2025 22:01

Have any of the Sadiq detractors actually come up with something concrete he has one wrong?

DiamanteTissueBox · 09/10/2025 22:17

Born, bred and lived in London for 34 years of life. Nothing Khan has done has been detrimental as a resident

I refuse to accept any random opinion from anyone who hasn't lived in London during his tenure, and has formed their opinions on videos on YouTube.

Well, there was an opportunity for a new Mayor last year, I believe. And Khan's vote share went up as he was elected for the third time. So clearly, many voters don't agree.

I agree. He's a good man and a real Londoner.

Lemoncanine · 09/10/2025 23:03

He’s done amazing thing for the city - truly amazing. I’m also so delighted to have a Muslim mayor.

thing he’s done
universal FSM for primary children
ULEZ which has made a staggering difference to the air we breathe
hopper fare (you don’t pay more if you change buses) - this was ages ago now but I still give thanks for it

he has been BRILLIANT for London.

I live here and I feel very safe most of the time, regardless of the area of the city I'm in.

My DC get free school meals. TFL fares stay relatively low, especially buses. Those two things directly and positively affect my life daily.

I think he's also a great ambassador for an open, tolerant and multicultural city. He genuinely loves London.

Yes. Well, three things. First, introducing the Hopper fare (use as many buses as you like within an hour for the price of a single fare). Second, ULEZ - which will save young kids' lives. Third: he wasn't - isn't - remotely intimidated by Trump, and this has always driven Trump mad ...🤣

When you say you live and work in London, whereabouts roughly? People's perspectives will differ largely based on postcode.

Those who live in Canary Wharf for example will claim the city is very safe - well, it would be there, as CW has 24/7 security!

Couldn't disagree more. His often extreme rhetoric has contributed to a lot of the diviseness we now experience in our city. Many Londoners don't feel he represents them at ALL!

Yesshadow · 10/10/2025 00:18

I live in London and I think he’s great. ULEZ, , serious crime dropping, free school meals for a start. You’ve fallen down a racist rabbit hole. Why do you even give a fuck if you don’t live here? Enough of a fuck to start a thread about it?

I couldn’t imagine starting a thread about the mayor of Manchester

Yesshadow · 10/10/2025 00:21

London has become much safer. Much less polluted. Children get free school meals. He is tolerant, not reactive and doesn’t give a fuck about bullies (Trump). What’s not to love?

MissSidonie · 10/10/2025 00:24

Non Londoner here, but a big fan of him, such an improvement on his predecessors. London remains a wonderful city and Londoners are fortunate to have someone like him as mayor.

This.
I dont understand why you’re interested / concerned about this if you’re not a Londoner, OP.
It’s well known that he’s despised by the racists and fans of Tommy Yaxley Lennon. They can’t stand having a Muslim in a position of power.
