Sadiq Khan. Can anyone tell me something positive about what he has done?

So the past few days I've unfortunately gone down a bit of a rabbit hole of clips about the Mayor of London.

From what I have seen the man is an utter buffoon who has done nothing to improve London, in fact quite the opposite.

Strikes increasing. Homelessness increasing. Crime - off the charts. Congestion zone charges etc.

And don't get me started on the deputy who seems to be from another planet!

I am not from London, so just wondering if anyone at all has anything positive at all to say about this catastrophe of man!

You can see the "benefits" of multiculturalism in London.

That's a bit gnomic for me. Can you expand on your thoughts here?

FallingIntoAutumn · 10/10/2025 10:02

its not a race to the bottom.
some parents don’t even though they can. (Not saying that’s you @GoldMerchant!)
some parents (especially in high housing cost areas) are struggling despite being over the threshold for PP.

all children learn better if they aren’t hungry, if they learn better they will have a better start which ultimately means they are more likely to be a tax paying member of society in adulthood.

It is a mystery, isn't it? Often you find that the same people go on about Londonistan and no go areas.

What could the connection be 🤔

Have you found the missing connection you are desperately looking for?
Are all BAME people in positions of power, free of criticism?

Crime measurably fell under Boris. First thing he did as Mayor was ban alcohol consumption on public transport. He expanded cycle hire, got the new routemaster buses. He opened Lee Tunnel to tackle sewage. And let's not forget the success of the London 2012 Olympics.

Thr banning alcohol on the tube thing was ridiculous. Nobody ever drank on the tube. People get drunk, in pubs,.or wherever, and then get on the tube. It was never a thing before the ban.
You can still drink on overground trains IIRC.

Has OP ignored the positive changes in London? Yes.

Has anyone claiming increased crime and hellhole statis for London provided any evidence? No.

Do people hate Sadiq Khan because he is brown and Muslim? Absolutely.

SnackQueen · 10/10/2025 11:15

@LavenderBlue19 How wonderful for you to be able to travel into central London for workies and escape at the end of the day. Must be nice. Some of us actually live and work here and have to experience the true extent of its decline all day every day day and night and have done so for far longer than your 20 years of window view workies. I have zero patience for people who have the audacity to throw the troll label at others simply because they hold strong views based on their lived experience.

TheCatsTongue · 10/10/2025 11:32

London has become a dump since Khan has been mayor.

Will never forget his attempts to make sure no one ever visited London during covid and then his desperate attempts to get everyone back in London to spend money after he spent years telling everyone to fuck off.

OrangeSlices998 · 10/10/2025 11:35

Luckymum20 · 08/10/2025 20:05

So did Jimmy Savile.

What’s your objection to the fella if you don’t live in London?

charliehungerford · 10/10/2025 11:54

PandoraSocks · 08/10/2025 20:25

If London hates him, why does the electorate keep voting for him?

Most of the electorate don’t keep voting for him. The turnout in the 2024 election for London mayor was only 40% of the electorate, so 60% of Londoners didn’t bother voting for anyone. Khan received 44% of the 40% so a small amount of votes, but enough to elect him.

JHound · 10/10/2025 11:56

Nestingbirds · 09/10/2025 21:05

That is a very, very lazy assumption. It doesn’t matter what religion he follows, he is not doing London any favours whatsoever and needs to be replaced. I’m struggling to see how taxing the life out of London is helping anyone..

Ok.

I an sure the obsession so many non-Londoners have with Khan is because they are concerned about the tax levels paid by Londoners.

I am sure that’s it.

So most of those who could be bothered to get off their arse and vote, chose to keep Khan in power.

Indeed.

You'd think that if he was as hated and destroying London as pp suggest, Londoners would be queuing up at the ballot box to vote him out, not sitting at home.

JHound · 10/10/2025 11:59

Jumpingthruhoops · 09/10/2025 21:00

Nothing to do with the fact he's Muslim at all. His main contender once upon a time was a black man, who had loads of support, so absolutely nothing to do with race.

This makes zero sense. I said the issue many of his detractors have with him is he is muslim.

The fact he ran against a man who was black is utterly irrelevant.

placemats · 10/10/2025 12:00

I visit London several times a year and the air quality has much improved. Even my cousin agrees because her asthma is much improved. Huge bonus.

@LatesBlakefevery primary school child in London can have a free school meal regardless of means.

This is a waste of money, it needs to be targeted to those who need it, I know of someone with three children who lives in a three million pound house in west London with a lovely second home bolt hole in Somerset, and an income well into high six figures. Due to property prices in their quite exclusive area the state school provision is excellent so they don’t need to pay for private schooling, which at their income level you would expect. It’s a gimmick.

I think that’s what burns those who dislike him. He is democratically elected and people who actually live in London keep returning him to power.

And those who don’t vote clearly aren’t that bothered by him to go and get him out of power.

I know. It’s fantastic - I love that about London. The diversity.

Although London’s diversity has nothing to do with Khan.

So how do you know crime is increasing? If it's not reported, what are you basing your accusations on?

literally no idea where all these Khan lovers are coming from. Pretty much everyone in Greater London thinks he’s awful.
If Greater London was split from Inner (which it should be) he would never win in the outer parts as he is always trounced by the conservatives (despite most of their candidates being utterly useless)
And it’s because of things like this-
https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/sadiq-khan-budget-city-hall-met-police-tube-mayoral-election-susan-hall-b1133141.html

he absolutely hates women and there are numerous videos of him in the assembly speaking to them like shit.

“Yes if we split the parts that vote for him from the parts that’s don’t vote him then in the parts that don’t vote for him he would lose”….

Some of these posts….😆

Absolute mystery.

Maybe it needs the collective might of Sherlock Holmes, Hercules Poirot and Colombo to solve it…
