Sadiq Khan. Can anyone tell me something positive about what he has done?

So the past few days I've unfortunately gone down a bit of a rabbit hole of clips about the Mayor of London.

From what I have seen the man is an utter buffoon who has done nothing to improve London, in fact quite the opposite.

Strikes increasing. Homelessness increasing. Crime - off the charts. Congestion zone charges etc.

And don't get me started on the deputy who seems to be from another planet!

I am not from London, so just wondering if anyone at all has anything positive at all to say about this catastrophe of man!

Just dropping in, waiting for the moment when @Luckymum20 acknowledges all the positive responses she asked for.

Unless....she didn't really want any and was just looking for her position to be endorsed? 🤔

I can understand people disagreeing with his politics and policies, but I am puzzled by the personal attacks. I know that his run ins with Susan Hill are spun as misogyny, while her attacks on him are spun as not-racism, but how has he shown himself to be despicable, vile, thick…..?

Indeed. We don’t see similar levels of agressive vitriol levelled at Andy Burnham, for example, although he is politically very similar.

No need to be puzzled by the personal attacks. I do agree that they should be puzzling, but in reality, I think we do actually know why SK is subjected to so much more vitriol.

mugglewump · 09/10/2025 14:04

Sadiq Khan is a brilliant mayor, who has the needs of Londoners at the heart of everything he does. He has:
Expanded the ULEZ, which has reduced asthma and cancers in the capital.
Brought in free school meals for all primary children, which encourages healthy eating.
Introduced zero emission buses and one hour flat rate fares for multiple journeys
The 60+Oyster - free travel for the over 60's
Increased the amount of affordable housing in the capital.
Set up agencies to support business in the capital, brining in an additional £1.2bn
Reduced violent crime in the capital.

Most of the people hating on Sadiq Khan are racists from the provinces. Londoners thik he is great, which is why we voted him in 3 times.

I am not a fan and live in a Tory borough and voted for Susan Hall but one effect is that I now drive on different roads (I have a diesel 2014 car) so in a sense a poor road rather than a rich road so he has definitely affected my driving and where I go. I probably do save a bit of money as cannot go to Waitgrose now due to one of the vast nukmber of ulez cameras - the ulez area ends across my road at the 200 acre wood (we are almost rural but within ulez).

Really? I have a diesel 2016 car and it's ULEZ compliant. I seem to recall you are financially comfortable, so you could upgrade to a compliant vehicle.

We had to change our 2011 diesel. But was easy enough to change to a petrol car for roughly the same money.

I agree. I was hoping that someone was prepared to justify the depressing number of personal attacks in any other way. Sadly I think I’ll be waiting a long time.

@Luckymum20

Hey, OP

Now so many have responded detailing the benefits delivered to them by Mr Khan, will you be coming back to say, “Wow - thanks. That’s most informative. I shall certainly consider all that as a counter to the negatives I saw on YouTube’?

Sadly, we both know that there is no other rational explanation.

HRTQueen · 09/10/2025 14:31

ULEZ, Loop Buses, pedestrianisation of Oxford Street (I think this is going ahead) are just some of the few

he doesn't appear to have any dodgy deals going on for himself this would most certainly have been heavily reported and the racist abuse thrown his way is appaling.

Not sure about the falling crime stats we are busier than every (work with offenders/police/probation) and police are simply not there to rely on unless the crime is serious even then its not a guarantee

You can buy an early 2000s petrol Astra that's ULEZ compliant for only a few hundred quid. Would that help?

Hiff · 09/10/2025 14:39

Another Londoner here. Love SK! He's a genuinely good guy who makes a real difference. I clicked on to read this thread guessing it would be full of vitriol but reading all of the sane positivity has really cheered me up!

Holdonforsummer · 08/10/2025 20:13

Is it just me or there more right wing/hate threads recently? Sadiq Khan is brilliant. He has introduced new bus routes that have changed my life for the better: ULEZ has helped to clean up the air (in comparison, I was in Greece on holiday during the summer and the pollution was over-powering) and I feel crime is a lot better than it could be in a major city. I think he’s done a great job. I wonder how many of these rabbit hole videos are being posted by people trying to stir up trouble for their own ends…….

Yes far more of these type of threads. MN has always been a bit of rough and tumble but the tone has darkened considerably lately. I log in far less than usual as a result.

I now live in outer London (after 20 years in central London) and nearly everyone here is in favour of ULEZ. And we have all noticed the difference in air quality since the expansion.

Very interesting! And I’m pleased to hear it. So nobody is destroying ULEZ cameras round you neck of the woods? On local social media I have even seen a map of where the cameras are and which ones are working and which ones are not working.

There are definitely a lot more racist/far right posts on here than there used to be. Not sure if it is simply a reflection of society as a whole, and people feeling emboldened to express their racist views, or whether MN is being actively targeted. A bit of both, maybe.

MNHQ don't seem bothered by it. I think the extreme views generate more clicks and therefore more advertising revenue, so it's in their interests to let it happen.

I did delete my account a while ago because I was frustrated with MNHQ's indifference and seeing so much bile on a daily basis was messing with my mental health. But I decided to come back after a bit of a break because we need as many voices as possible to drown out the racist noise.

Only in the couple of local boroughs full of reform supporter types. None in my borough or neighbouring one. The ones destroying ULEZ cameras are now being kept busy hanging Temu flags on lamp posts.

Ginmonkeyagain · 09/10/2025 15:29

That lasted about a fortnight. Then the thrill was gone, not least because the cameras were replaced within days. All the freedom fighters moved on to putting up flags. I give that one a month.

Still, keeps ‘em off the streets, dunnit?

Waitrose deliver, no need to drive

If they are allowing it because it creates more clicks and ad revenue then they are making a long term strategic mistake.

Big advertisers are increasingly using tech to assess bot activity. If they deduce much of the traffic is targeted political campaign traffic and coordinated bots, they’ll stop advertising.

I see a big reduction in advertising on social media platforms in general in future.

People who actually live here in London like him enough to have elected him multiple times.
