To be utterly disgusted by the woman cutting down yellow ribbons commemorating the October 7th victims in Muswell Hill yesterday morning

When Jewish people are being attacked and murdered on their way to synagogue on Yom Kippur

When you literally can’t move or look in any direction without Palestine Palestine Palestine in our faces

On the eve of the anniversary of the worst atrocity committed against Jewish people since the Holocaust, a small, unobtrusive memorial for the victims of that unthinkable, barbaric attack was destroyed yesterday by a despicable woman who turned up with scissors and cut the ribbons down, one by one.

Ribbons for women and girls who were raped and murdered.
Ribbons for babies ripped from their parents’ arms and slaughtered.
Ribbons for men beaten to death.
Ribbons for the hostages still suffering every moment.

And this disgusting individual took it upon herself to come along with a pair of scissors and cut each one away. Her excuse? They “condone genocide”.

Let’s not pretend for a moment that that was her true motivation. It was a revolting demonstration of the antisemitism that has become so shamefully rife in this country that it sickens me.

This woman needs to be named and shamed for the loathsome person she is.

Which part do you disagree with?

You dictating what everyone should be saying.

I live in an area with a huge number of yellow ribbons and posters commemorating the victims and to be honest, it's uncomfortable. It's become more than a memorial, it's now a pro-Israel political statement. As demonstrated by the fact the ribbons are often accompanied by "Fuck Hamas" stickers and the like.

I do have some sympathy for Israel's position - more than the general public, probably - but I certainly don't support the current decimation of Palestine and I don't like the way the whole locality now seems to have been branded pro-Israeli, it doesn't represent me for sure.

Edited

Well you might argue that the 'Fuck Hamas' stickers refer to the fact that arguably Palestinian citizens are as much their victims as were the Israelis murdered, raped and burnt out of their homes on Oct 7th.

However much we look in horror at what is happening to Gazans, do we really support Hamas???

They knew what would happen.

They could have released hostages swiftly.

Today is very much a day to remember the attacks of Oct 7th.

That there are still hostages held.

And that doesn't mean we can't also look in horror at what is happening to innocent Gazans.

If you're uncomfortable with ribbons calling for the return of abducted civilians being held and starved in tunnels and forced to dig their own graves for the camera, that's not Israel's failing. And if you're uncomfortable with stickers that opposed the terrorists responsible, who held a genocidal pogrom and willingly sacrifice as many of their own people as they can to stoke antisemitism, that's also not Israel's failing.

I'm pleased that the real motives of the pro Palestine movement are becoming obvious to everyone

We are not all one lump any more than every Jewish person is Netanyahu. Many of us also don’t agree with this woman’s behaviour.

This reprehensible act doesn’t reflect the views of every single person who supports the existence of a Palestinian state and believes Israel should stop the genocide.

Namechang44 · 07/10/2025 10:12

It is disgusting and I do hope you’re just as outraged with the starvation and genocide, ethnic cleaning of tens of thousands of civilians?

Let’s not pretend that if Israel truly wanted to completely destroy Palestine and kill every living person there, it would have happened by now. They could have done it within a week.

Genocide is what Hamas would do to Israel if they had the means. Their stated aim is to wipe Israel and all Jewish people from the face of the earth.

Hamas continues to seize aid trucks and keep it for themselves or sell it for profit. Hamas continues to refuse peace deals that Israel has already agreed to. Hamas still has not freed the hostages.

What religion do you think she is? I saw no signifiers of her being of any particular religion in the video. And whatever that religion is (if she even has one), do you normally extrapolate to assume everyone of the same faith holds the same opinions, based on the actions of a few?

I disagree with her actions, but if you are connecting them with any particular religion then perhaps you are as prejudiced as she may be?

ExtraOnions · 07/10/2025 10:21

Both sides are now so entrenched there is little room left for reasonable debate and action. You can’t say anything without being accused of either supporting genocide, or being anti-Semitic.

I genuinely see no way that this starts to get resolved ..we seem to have lost the ability to accept that different people, have different views, and we don’t have to spend our days shouting at them in an attempt to change thier mind.

Every conversation is filled with Hypoerbole .. everything is “disgusting” “appalling” “disgraceful” “an attack” etc .. I kinda blame SM for some of it, it’s seems to whip up this sort of language.

Lots of people think that; The Hamas attack was wrong, the destruction of Gaza is wrong, making people in this country feel unsafe is wrong, curtailing free-speech is wrong, shouting in each others faces in wrong.

You can think all of these things, at the same time.

Bottleplant · 07/10/2025 10:22

It depends how long they've been there and what they look like. I'd take everything down tbh. Whatever the cause, they look ok for a while then get tatty and dirty.

Obviously if they're being removed for anti Jewish reasons, that appaling, but I don't think that's the only possible reason to remove them.

AngeloMysterioso · 07/10/2025 10:22

nomas · 07/10/2025 10:13

You dictating what everyone should be saying.

I’m not in a position to dictate anything, it’s simply my opinion. I don’t see how anyone can look at this awful situation and not think “Fuck Hamas”. Unless of course, they were just looking for an excuse to hate Jewish people.

The ones cutting down ribbons are doing the dictating, taking it upon themselves to decide that the victims of the attack are not allowed to be remembered.

I think it's quite a stretch to say OP is dictating what everyone should be saying. I thinks she's pointing out the hypocrisy being used to shut down commemoration of victims.

I too do not understand why Hamas is not being loudly condemned- by Palestinians/Gazans particularly? If someone went out in my name to another country and committed such disgusting, barbaric, inhuman acts, in turn making my home and people and target of war- I'd have something to say about it. I certainly would not be cheering them on.

But you could say the exact same thing of the flying of Palestinian flags, the pro-palestine protests etc. They are making political statements, implying support for Hamas rather than concern for ordinary Palestinians, and there is a significant minority who cross the line into what can only be construed as antisemitism.

I'm not really sure what the issue is with the sentiment of 'fuck Hamas' tbh?

So you think this woman cutting down the ribbons TODAY is doing it out of some sort of civic pride? And she's now heading to clean up pro-Hamas graffiti and maybe do a litter pick?

Cabinqueen · 07/10/2025 10:26

@AngeloMysterioso Genocide is what Hamas would do to Israel if they had the means. Their stated aim is to wipe Israel and all Jewish people from the face of the earth.

I know in the last two years I've heard the Israeli government say the same thing about the state of Palestine and the Palestinian people...

Laiste · 07/10/2025 10:27

AngeloMysterioso · 07/10/2025 10:12

But surely there is a distinction between “Pro-Israeli” - which is to say, in support of Israel’s actions post- 10/23 - and memorialising the victims of the attack? Everyone was shocked and disgusted by the 9/11 and 7/7 attacks but still did not support the following invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan, and there is no suggestion that the memorials for those attacks mean anything else other than what they are- a tribute to the victims.

I agree with every word of this.

But in your OP you suggested that the woman's given reasons for cutting the ribbons ('anti-genocide' basically) was just an excuse and we should all see that she must simply be anti-semitic.

Now i don't condone taking the ribbons down at all, but i worry that the speed to label something 'anti-semitic' is becoming a knee jerk reaction and is not always correct.

As you say, there is a distinction between being pro-Israel and memorialising the victims of the Oct 7th attack. But There is also a big distinction between being anti Israel (policy) and anti Semitic.

I’ve just watched the video. She’s not removing the ribbons because they are tatty or dirty. She refers to the ribbons as supporting genocide. She is articulate and appears to know exactly what she is doing and why.
