My thoughts are with the Jewish community on the second anniversary of this barbaric attack.

This is what always gets me; those pro Palestine supporters that wave the rainbow flag. Are they really that stupid?

But yes, thoughts with the families. Always. 🎗️

Would you stop supporting Israel because some Israelis are homophobic?

Equally, I don't think gay people would want anyone to die because of their beliefs, like anyone else. There are other ways to challenge homophobia.

Are you really trying to claim that homophobia and lack of women’s rights are as widespread in Israel?

I'm saying that I don't think most people would judge an entire people by a few homophobes / misogynists, either in Palestine, or in Israel. I doubt Orthodox parts of Israel or Palestine is a utopia of gay and women's rights.

Agree to disagree, to avoid derailing.

Jamclag · 07/10/2025 18:33

I really don't want to derail the thread either, so apologies but I think this is a really important misunderstanding. Hamas doesn't just contain a few homophobes or misogynists in what is otherwise a tolerant regime. An important tenet of fundamentalist Islam is complete intolerance of homosexuality and the subjugation of women. There's really no way of whitewashing this.

It would be practically impossible to be openly gay living in Gaza. Contrast that with the right to live in same sex relationships, have a family life, be employed etc without fear of discrimination which is enshrined in law in Israel and you can see there really is no comparison between the two regimes in this respect.

Thank you, a lot of people do seem to misunderstand this.

Thank you OP for posting this. Remembering the victims today.

I am so sad that some have responded to this thread with anything other than compassion.

AzurePanda · 07/10/2025 18:50

@Jamclag, I’ve been completely stunned by claims there are gay people living openly in Gaza. Likewise that women have equal rights. Just incredible.

I know, you have to wonder what’s wrong with people.

If they don’t feel sorry or have any empathy then they don’t need to post at all, do they?

I don’t want to derail but I do need to challenge this.

The Abrahamic faiths are all anti-homosexual sex. To say that it’s an important tenet of Islam but not Judaism is absurd.

‘The subject of homosexuality and Judaism dates back to the Torah. The book of Vayikra (Leviticus) is traditionally regarded as classifying sexual intercourse between males as a to'eivah(something abhorred or detested) that could be subject to capital punishment by the contemporary Sanhedrin under halakha (Jewish law).’

You are being deliberately obtuse. The argument is about current practice. Israel has well documented gay rights, and a thriving gay pride each year. Contrast that with Gaza, where gay people face execution.

MaudlinGazebo · 07/10/2025 19:52

That’s got nothing to do with the laws in Israel, which is what is being discussed.

Lots of fireworks here….

Well1mBack · 07/10/2025 19:53

I was thinking about it too today. Remembering the victims of this barbaric attack and the families left behind. X

AcquadiP · 07/10/2025 19:54

Mine too.

Lindos1 · 07/10/2025 20:40

I've been thinking about the October 7th attack all day. So much pain, it's unbearable really.

None of that means gay people shouldn’t support the people of Palestine.

It’s a bit simplistic to say they should support Israel because they have gay pride.

I think you should be saying that to the person who derailed by saying ‘An important tenet of fundamentalist Islam is complete intolerance of homosexuality’ and therefore gay people shouldn’t support Palestinians.
