To think we should be allowed two cokes as part of the Nando’s bottomless drink deal?

It’s now illegal. Surely people can make their own mind up.
as an occasional treat of course - DH doesn’t drink diet drinks as prefers to just have normal sugar to artificial sweeteners. He’s healthy weight and, exercise regularly and eats well most of the time

im a bit overweight and prefer Diet Coke.

we went to Nando’s today (DS’s (8) choice) as birthday weekend) - and both got soft drinks which come as bottomless - with extra hot chicken.

It seems unfair that I could have refilled 10 times with Diet Coke if I wanted, but DH couldn’t refill a second coke as no longer legal.

How do they police it? Thought you went to a drinks dispenser and helped yourself ?

MessageMystery · 05/10/2025 20:19

Must be something to do with the sugar tax I assume?

Redpeach · 05/10/2025 20:20

Well i guess if it's all basically shite, can't your dh just swap to diet for his 2nd drink?

Right now there’s a big sticker on the coke saying it’s illegal to refill. I’m assuming in due course they might take the coke away from the main machine and have it behind the counter?

He had water as his second. He doesn’t drink diet drinks, but would have happily had a second Coke if the signs weren’t there.

I'm not sure Nandos is to blame. You could technically still purchase 2 cokes but you would have to pay again for the second one rather than have the refil promotion. Personally I would rather my kids drank a real coke rather than that revolting sugar free crap but I would generally limit them to one as it is still sugary crap so it's not a massive issue. It's a sugar tax. I remain unconvinced that drinking full fat coke is the main reason for the obesity epidemic (unless they''ve changed the formula) because I drank gallons of it as a kid in the 80's. I also drank full sugar squash all day long. I am not and never have been obese and only recently began to gain weight in perimenopause.

EarlofShrewsbury · 05/10/2025 20:24

At least it's coke.

At pizza hut the refill machine is all the sugar free versions, if I want the sugar version it's served in a glass as a single serving, no refill.

But it's only Pepsi, which still has those horrible sweeteners in. Aspartame makes me ill, I can't have it.

It's Pepsi, is that OK?

No. It bloody isn't.

JazzyBBBG · 05/10/2025 20:24

Not that I'm a fan of Coke but FFS, "illegal" this bloody country! We can't charge rapists but it's illegal to have 2 x cokes. Going to sit here and rant to myself now.

LividArse · 05/10/2025 20:25

It's not "illegal", it's now against Nando's rules and they're not the police.

However, as someone who avoids sweeteners I agree it's dumb.

In Nando's I get free ice water anyway. Not paying £4 for sweetener shite when I can refill ice water for free.

The kids didn’t have the soft drinks - they had a carton of fruit juice each (not refillable), then water. This was DH who fancied a refill of the coke from his bottomless soft drink

The mind boggles. I drink plain water or unsweetened hot drinks 99% of the time.
If, on the very rare occasion, I want a full sugar coke, then I want a full sugar coke.. not some sugar free artificial sweeteners shite! And if im eating out and eating junk, then please dont patronise me and say i can only have one. Fucking ridiculous but what can you do.

The words Nando’s use on the machine is illegal or similar

Glad to see the government dealing with the massive issues first 😂 I actually saw this online earlier in the week and thought it was a prank joke.

This was DHs stance today!

It’s probably theft if you use it as a refill and it’s not included in the refill promotion?

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 05/10/2025 20:33

Seen this on my tiktok and staff have commented they can’t police itBear so it’s basically a meaningless sign Wink

You are not obese but huge numbers of people who "drank gallons of sugary drinks in the 80s" certainly are.

If OP's DH fancied two cokes he could have bought a second. Just don't see the big deal. I'd also rather have sugar than sweeteners as I hate the taste.

ThatWorthyAquaFox · 05/10/2025 20:35

I'd go back and fill it up with coke a second time. 😈

Chiseltip · 05/10/2025 20:37

What are they going to do?

Arrest you . .

Just fill your coke and get on with your life.

PumpkinSeasonOctober · 05/10/2025 20:37

They need to fuck off and let us make our own life choices.

My weightiest friend drinks gallons of Diet Coke.

Greggsit · 05/10/2025 20:39

Why wouldn't he just ignore the sign and get a second one? Who going to notice or care?

FlashAahhAahh · 05/10/2025 20:43

We've literally just got back from Nando's. I had at least three proper coca cola's. I had best turn myself in 😂 It's a sticker on the machine, nobody is going to stand there and tell you no.

If it's that big of a deal they'll eventually just swap out the coke at the machine for something else diet/zero and sell bottled coke at inflated prices.

Cucy · 05/10/2025 20:54

YANBU if you have a weight problem it is not going to be the couple hundred calories you get from the drinks, it’s going to be the 1000s of calories you get from the fast food at these places that is the bigger issue.

Why do they continually put higher tax etc on the unhealthy food, instead of just making healthy food cheaper and teaching people how to budget and cook healthy meals.

CloudSky · 05/10/2025 20:57

It’s getting fucking ridiculous. I hate sweeteners, they taste like shit. They ruin any drink they are in. There is nothing left now that’s untainted, just wait til they reveal more and more issues with all these sweeteners they’ve been poisoning kids with all these years. Let people drink what they want ffs. It isn’t going to stop anyone being fat.
