To think we should be allowed two cokes as part of the Nando’s bottomless drink deal?

It’s now illegal. Surely people can make their own mind up.
as an occasional treat of course - DH doesn’t drink diet drinks as prefers to just have normal sugar to artificial sweeteners. He’s healthy weight and, exercise regularly and eats well most of the time

im a bit overweight and prefer Diet Coke.

we went to Nando’s today (DS’s (8) choice) as birthday weekend) - and both got soft drinks which come as bottomless - with extra hot chicken.

It seems unfair that I could have refilled 10 times with Diet Coke if I wanted, but DH couldn’t refill a second coke as no longer legal.

This actually really annoys me. Most artificial sweeteners give me a severely upset stomach so if I'm having a Coke it will be the sugary one!

Right now there’s a big sticker on the coke saying it’s illegal to refill. I’m assuming in due course they might take the coke away from the main machine and have it behind the counter?

Just do it anyway. It’s not illegal for you to take a second Coke it’s illegal for them to sell it as bottomless

Refillable drinks is just stupid American rubbish anyway. Just pay for a second drink like a normal person in a normal restaurant.

I would if it was £2 and not £4.95

Exactly. It just encourages people to have more. Just look at the obesity in the US population.

Having lived in several U.S. states I actually have seen more overweight people in the UK than the U.S. Lots more overweight children too. So maybe soft drinks aren’t the cause? Lack of exercise, poor modeling from parents, families that eat a lot of ultra processed foods (these are the real culprit not salt/fat/sugar). You’re much more likely to be satiated after one Coke than a Diet Coke, hence the lots of overweight people that consume diet drinks. There’s a reason it’s a known stereotype.

Are there any sugared squashes left? Coming for a visit from Aus soon and we can’t stand artificial sweeteners. I nearly cried when I saw my beloved Ribena was filled with the shite. I’d rather my kids have sugar than artificial sweeteners.

There’s an odd one but most are sugar free unfortunately

Actually, that's a good point. One or two 250ml cans of coke or one standard 330ml are often enough for me. I feel 'coked out' but I've seen people get through several cans of diet in a day.

Plus the sweetners set off cravings.

Yes some of the most overweight people I know are on health kicks eating mainly diet products. They don’t seem to be getting any slimmer. Even the vegetarian dieter.

The crap in diet products are not helping.

Or just don't drink fizzy drinks

If only it were just fizzy drinks! Artificial sweeteners are in squash, cereal, baked beans, yogurts, crisps, throat lozenges, cough linctus, lemsip… the list goes on! It makes shopping very time consuming if I don’t want to give myself diarrhoea.

OonaStubbs · 06/10/2025 18:11

I can't believe they have made full fat coke illegal.

notedbiscuits · 06/10/2025 18:29

It’s got something to do with certain food products can’t be on certain promotions such as refillable drinks.

I can see Nando’s and other chains that do refillable drinks having ‘fat’ Coke in glass bottles later

JSMill · 06/10/2025 19:44

It’s not illegal ffs. It’s against Nando’s rules. Have people in this country always been this thick?

I "pop" into a pub across the road from DS's activity each week and it's an eye watering £3.55 for a glass bottle of coke, basically a can's worth. I'm driving so alcohol is off the menu and every other soft drink is laced with headache inducing laxitives that leave a disgusting after taste in my mouth for hours afterwards. Artificial sweetners taste like someone put washing up liquid in to a drink (or the food... who knew that pickled beetroot needs artificial sweetners Confused )

I could drive home but it's a waste of time and fuel and would probably cost similar in wasted petrol, and I'd rather keep a local pub being financially viable.

I'm healthy, active and manage my weight sensibly. Constantly being penalised and having choices withdrawn is so bloody tiresome.

A family trip to Nandos already leaves us with little change from £100 and that's without starters or deserts. If they start enforcing rip-off prices for small portions of coke compared to the contaminated soft drinks, it'll join my boycott list of places where water is the only option to wash down a meal. I already drink plenty of water at home and work, and it does not add much joy to eating out, particularly when its affordability is rapidly declining.

It is nothing to do with Nando's.. It is the Gov legislation banning special offers that encourage eating more of certain foods so buy one get one free on chocolate biscuits, 3 for 2 on pork pies and bottomless full sugar drinks. Other venues may not have introduced it yet but the law has been passed.

Nandos decided to prohibit bottomless refills of full sugar coke as a result of the government’s sugar tax. It’s not illegal to have them. I am sorry you don’t understand the difference.

Well, if it was as a result of the sugar tax, it's taken them a long time, because immediately after the tax and for some time you still got unlimited refills but had to pay slightly more for proper coke. There was no way of controlling it, though. They didn't know what we'd paid. They relented at some point and there was just one price. This 'one glass' rule is probably because of the 1st Oct law.

Nobody's thick.

T1Dmama · 06/10/2025 21:49

I wouldn’t pay the price if I couldn’t refil the glass. If they sold it as refillable I’d have refilled it and ignored the sign!

T1Dmama · 06/10/2025 21:51

They’re going to loose a lot of customers and will soon do away with this silliness

Where does what happen?

Kids not allowed salt on their veg

OonaStubbs · 06/10/2025 21:56

Full fat coke should be cheaper if it's a non-refillable drink.

Well Nando’s says it’s nothing to do with the sugar tax but due to the new law introduced this week banning refillable full sugar drinks.
