Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

Would appreciate views on whether or not I am being unreasonable in thinking en-suite facilities are not acceptable.

We have paid £440 for a weekend break in the UK. I am not happy and asked to move rooms but was told not possible as fully booked.

Don't know if I am being unreasonable and others would find this shower room acceptable or I am not being unreasonable and it is not what others would expect.

Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

What’s wrong with it? Apart from that it is a accessible bathroom?

Ozmumofboys3 · 05/10/2025 02:52

The only thing I wouldn’t really like is the curtain as shower curtains give me the ick but other than that it looks ok for a weekend.

DBD1975 · 05/10/2025 02:55

We didn't book an accessible bathroom/shower room and the photos of the hotel rooms on the website show luxurious bathrooms with free standing baths and separate showers.

Does it say anything in your booking about it being an accessible bathroom? IMO you should have been told at booking, especially if all the bathrooms on the website look different as you’ve not got what you were expecting.

DBD1975 · 05/10/2025 03:03

Booking was done over the telephone by my husband.
When I asked to change rooms they advised we should have been told at the time of booking it was an accessible bathroom, my husband doesn't recall being told this when he booked.

I don't really know why there would be a problem with it. And not being able to recall being told is not the same as not being told.

PollyBell · 05/10/2025 03:12

I dont see a problem maybe tell us in detail what is wrong

Cookaburraa · 05/10/2025 03:17

Do you have a photo of what you were expecting?

Itmakesme · 05/10/2025 03:18

It is clean and performs all the functions you need. So the bathroom is great.

If having a bath was a pre-requisite for a stay you should have advised them.

You’ve spent the money, there isn’t an alternative available.

Don’t ruin the weekend by being fixated on having a room with an accessible bathroom. Have a shower, brush your teeth and have a fab day!

3flyingducksarrive · 05/10/2025 03:18

I'd be disappointed not to get the freestanding bath if that was what I was expecting.

CalmShaker · 05/10/2025 03:18

At first I thought you were being unreasonable but if this was sold to you as a luxury weekend trip I can see why you'd be a bit miffed.

SALaw · 05/10/2025 03:22

You have a husband problem, not a hotel en suite problem.

PollyBell · 05/10/2025 03:24

Why are problem at all it is a bathroom

Middlemarch123 · 05/10/2025 03:25

LTB.
(leave the bathroom)

Sorry OP, I’d be a bit annoyed too, but don’t let it ruin your weekend x

butterfly1234 · 05/10/2025 03:26

It has a shower and a toilet. Seems pretty standard. Were you wanting to have bath? If you were expecting a bath and you actually want to have a bath, then, yes, that's a pain. Otherwise, it seems fine.

JMSA · 05/10/2025 03:28

I mean, it’s not attractive, but clean and functional. If a bath is important to you, I can see why you’d be disappointed. But I think I’d have specified having one.

Hullopalloo · 05/10/2025 03:30

To me its horrible. Id be furious. It looks like a cheap accessible bathroom. Not luxury in the least.

dontmalbeconme · 05/10/2025 03:36

We're you actually guaranteed a bath tub on booking? Because that seems perfectly OK for a standard hotel bathroom. It looks clean, spacious and functional.

PeloMom · 05/10/2025 03:40

Your husband must have some sort of confirmation even if he booked over the phone?

canchewcashew · 05/10/2025 03:50

It's not beautiful, but it wouldn't bother me that there's no bath, because I'd prefer a shower, anyway. If you're a bath person, I can see how that might be disappointing, but what's to be done? Yes, it's acceptable, assuming everything is in working order. Just be more careful when booking after this, if you're particular about the bathroom.

Frikadelle · 05/10/2025 03:54

I’d be disappointed too OP if I got a bathroom with a shower curtain when I was expecting luxury. Don’t let it ruin the weekend though, enjoy the rest of the facilities and the time with your DH.

ProfessionalPirate · 05/10/2025 03:55

I’m with you OP, it looks rather crappy and basic. And shower curtains are gross, especially ones that have been tied to a toilet cistern 🤮

Booking over the phone seems a pretty unusual move these days. Have you got a written confirmation of the booking that includes a description of the bathroom / mention of a bath? If not, then I guess you’ll have to chalk this one up to experience.

laclochette · 05/10/2025 04:00

Expectations are relative! What did you base your expectations on? Did the website etc say all rooms come with freestanding baths? Did you specifically request a room with a bath? And how much did you pay, and what sort of hotel is it? All these things inform expectations. In my experience you need to be super precise with hotels to get what you want. If there's eg a pic on their website I like I will ask what room it is of and request that room specifically. Unless you make your expectations clear to them at the outset you can't really complain about them not being met.

RawBloomers · 05/10/2025 04:04

If your DH can’t remember if they told him it was an accessible room or not, then it’s quite likely they did if that’s their policy. So I think you have to suck it up. It’s not their fault your DH doesn’t have a clear idea of what you find unacceptable in a fancy weekend away and since he booked it they can’t sell it to someone else who isn’t as particular about the bathroom.

I would prefer a regular bathroom to an accessible one, especially in a luxury hotel where they have fancy standalone baths in the regular rooms. But if it were the only room available I’d almost certainly take it and enjoy the weekend anyway.

dontmalbeconme · 05/10/2025 04:30

Oh, I just saw £440 for 2 weekend nights. So Travelodge/Premier Inn/other low end hotel. Yeah, suck it up. Its a room, that's all you can expect for £cheap.
