Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

Would appreciate views on whether or not I am being unreasonable in thinking en-suite facilities are not acceptable.

We have paid £440 for a weekend break in the UK. I am not happy and asked to move rooms but was told not possible as fully booked.

Don't know if I am being unreasonable and others would find this shower room acceptable or I am not being unreasonable and it is not what others would expect.

Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

😂😂😂 £220 a night for a travelodge, are you kidding me? 😂😂😂

Low end? Lol

gannett · 05/10/2025 08:08

I can't really imagine my enjoyment of a holiday or even a hotel room being so affected by the design of the bathroom.

Does it work, is there hot water, is the water pressure acceptable? Nothing else matters. Surely on any given holiday, literally everything else is more important than what the bathroom looks like. Get out there and enjoy whatever lovely spot you're holidaying in.

curious79 · 05/10/2025 08:08

Definite travel lodge vibes. Good luck with the shower curtain sticking to you and then trying to leave the bathroom without slipping everywhere.

I'd be gutted. As a retired nurse, I'd feel like I was back at work.
Definitely not what you are expecting, if you don't need it.

Same, as a healthcare worker id be pissed right off if I got a hospital style bathroom on a weekend break that advertises a luxury bathroom with a freestanding possibly roll top bath.

gannett · 05/10/2025 08:09

I would also be seriously unimpressed if my partner spent any time at all on a minibreak whingeing about the bathroom design, let alone turning it into A Thing that they wanted to make a complaint about. Let it go!

I used to work at TL and it's a very standard price for the ones in city centres, particularly if there are concerts/events on. The roadsides are way cheaper but also look very different inside.

Rubbish. Here's are the per night options for TL in central London next weekend....(hopefully image loads soon)

Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

What's the square thing on the wall?? Is that part of the shower?

It's a seat.

Your husband doesn’t ‘recall’ being told it was an accessible bathroom is very much different to ‘we were not told’ it was an accessible bathroom.

popcornandpotatoes · 05/10/2025 07:52

Maybe they assumed you needed an accessible room because you booked over the phone? Like you're in your 90s?

Sometimes if it’s very short notice you can’t book online and have to phone.

I’ve decided a few times to have spontaneous trips the next day or within two days and had to call up.

I’ve booked with spa breaks (or spa seekers, can’t remember) a few times as you can use Tesco club card points, I had to call to do a couple of bookings.

DBD1975 · 05/10/2025 08:07

Thanks, I didn't think it was cheap at all, the hotel is certainly not Premier Inn, it is a premium spa hotel for which I think the price is high end, whilst our bathroom is low end!

In that case then I’d definitely be pissed off. But I guess if they did tell your Dh that they only had the accessible bathroom left then they have covered themselves. But it’s definitely not giving premium spa vibes.

Goodwood weekends, Silverstone weekend, Southampton boat show. They are all at that price point.

I’d be very disappointed, more so if I’d been expecting a free standing bath.

I hate shower curtains they’re unhygienic and flap irritatingly

i hate wet rooms where the toilet and sink is in the vicinity, everything is always damp and the floor never dries. I really dislike seeing water round the toilet even if I know it’s just shower water my brain registers it as all being a bit grim

I hate the toilets in accessible bathrooms - they’re too high and I find storing on them really unpleasant.

Well you’re fortunate you don’t need to use one. Lots of people need these types of facilities. I suggest maybe you have a hang up about disabled people?

£440 for a weekend is cheap so I wouldn’t expect luxury

Have you got nothing better to do than to come on here to tell us how financially superior you think you are? The bathroom is not what was shown on the website.

Linenpickle · 05/10/2025 08:16

They need to offer a partial refund.

ThatCyanCat · 05/10/2025 08:17

If it's a premium spa hotel, then the accessible bathrooms should still be better than that. It's totally functional but it looks like Premier Inn. Ask for a partial refund.

Shutuptrevor · 05/10/2025 08:17

Can you show us a photo of what you thought you were getting?

£220 a night doesn’t get as much as it used to for sure, but if they’re promising freestanding luxury baths etc then I’d be wanting some significant money off.

TBF no hotel website shows every room. They usually show the best ones. The hotel we went to in summer had lots of pics of rooms with private pools, however I understand that you would need to book a room with a private pool in order to receive that. If op had booked online there may have been different booking options for the rooms. Freestanding baths were probably in the higher range of rooms

Gizlotsmum · 05/10/2025 08:19

I would be disappointed too and I probably would have still expected an accessible room to have a nice high quality bathroom rather than one that looks like it came from a hospital. However if they are full they can’t move you so what would you like? Compensation? A free treatment? Check any confirmation received for mention of accessible rooms. Go armed with what you want and why. Accept you may have been told but you feel it is poor quality regardless

LynetteScavo · 05/10/2025 08:20

It’s horrible, you’re basically having shower next to the toilet brush. I’d leave a poor review. If it were £90 per night, I’d suck it up, but it’s not what you’d expect for the price.

is it the kind of spa where they feed you nothing for breakfast but a small spoon of natural yogurt and half a slice of dry toast, which you’re supposed to chew 1000 times, in order to lose weight?

Natsku · 05/10/2025 08:21

What does it say on their website? Does it say the rooms have a bath and a shower or does it say they have either a bath or a shower? Because usually when I book a hotel room it says the latter, and sometimes gives an option to indicate your preference (though last hotel I booked I got a confirmation saying shower only but when we arrived the bathroom had a lovely deep bath as well)

Not a nice comment for those that need accessible bathrooms to read.

That’s one off events. If you’re paying £200 for travelodge rooms, god help you!

FixTheBone · 05/10/2025 08:22

RedSkyatNight25 · 05/10/2025 05:37

£220 per night is not cheap?

Depends where and when it is....

Big city centre on the same day as an arena event it might be - i just paid £300 for a an absolute bare minimum Trabelodge on a main road.... Just gotta accept the prices go up if there's a football match and a big concert on...

Somewhere out of the way, youd expect better.

Ddakji · 05/10/2025 08:24

I’d be really upset with that too. Having a nice en suite is part of booking a hotel room. Ignore the “I can’t see the problem” idiots.

No idea what you can do about it though.

financially superior and morally superior 💀

I apparently have a hang up about disabled people because I don’t like wet floors, unhygienic shower curtains and awkwardly high toilet seats.
