Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

Would appreciate views on whether or not I am being unreasonable in thinking en-suite facilities are not acceptable.

We have paid £440 for a weekend break in the UK. I am not happy and asked to move rooms but was told not possible as fully booked.

Don't know if I am being unreasonable and others would find this shower room acceptable or I am not being unreasonable and it is not what others would expect.

Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

If it doesn’t match the pictures of what you thought you were booking I would kick up a fuss. I am someone who books rooms specially to have a nice bath so would not be happy with this.

Ineffable23 · 05/10/2025 08:28

I think you're getting a rough time here OP. I've also been put in an accessible room at somewhere that sounds like it has a similar vibe to your description. It still didn't feel as fancy as their other rooms but was a lot better than you're showing here and still had a bath.

See photos below:

It's still not the same vibe as their other bathrooms but it was nice enough that I didn't complain.

Well you’re fortunate you don’t need to use one. Lots of people need these types of facilities. I suggest maybe you have a hang up about disabled people?

Gosh the virtue signalling is strong.

I have a hang up with wet floors, unhygienic shower curtains and as someone else said showering next to the toilet brush 🤢

nothing to do with disabled people.

HopingForTheBest25 · 05/10/2025 08:29

I'd object - accessible bathrooms should meet the 'luxury' standard of the hotel. If all their website pictures show/describe attractive bathrooms, then that it what you should get, even if it the standard rooms were all booked out and you still had an accessible bathroom. This looks cheap. So to me it's irrelevant whether your Dh was told or not, the bathroom is still not in keeping with what was expected.
Don't let it ruin your trip but I'd definitely want a partial refund - that shower looks like a hospital ward!

VisitationRights · 05/10/2025 08:29

That bathroom does not give any luxury type vibes, I would be disappointed too if I was staying in a higher end spa hotel. YANBU.

Engage your brain before making comments like this. Disabled people have to put up with all those things.

Alideascope · 05/10/2025 08:32

I wouldn't mind the look that much, but if I'd been told there was a bath and there was only a shower I would be really disappointed. I don't do showers by choice ever.

I did once have this happen and it was a bit annoying because my sons at the time were little enough that a bath was much more practical, but it was just one night so I just managed in the end. That was a functional trip though, not a holiday.

It was a bit silly to suggest PP dislikes disabled people though, just because she dislikes a bathroom.

Catsknowbest · 05/10/2025 08:34

So to me it would matter a lot. We need accessible when we go away because my husband is disabled. But a walk in shower is fine for his conditions and as we don't have a bath at home its something I see as a treat if we go away, so often go four a 4 piece bathroom. So it would matter a lot to me. But- it depends on what your husband specified/asked for/agreed to and if he can't remember I don't see how you can complain to hotel. We all know hotels use their "best room" photos on websites another reason I always double check what I'm actually going to be getting. And in my situation I have to really check because to end up with a bath and no shower would be an actual major issue for us.

CoffeeCup14 · 05/10/2025 08:34

If your plan for a relaxing weekend away involved having a lovely long bath in a luxurious bathroom, that would be incredibly disappointing. I think hotels need to be clearer about whether en-suites have a bath or shower, as if the pictures show a bath, I think it's pretty normal to expect a bath - even if this may not be the case. Let's be honest, hotels deliberately show the nicest rooms and facilities to get you to book

I've had similar experiences - I only have a shower at home, so if I do go away, I really like to have a bath.

I think you're reasonable to be pissed off, but I don't know if you've grounds for a refund. And try not to let it spoil your weekend.

And they shouldn’t have to. There’s no excuse in a hotel with luxury bathrooms to not extend that luxury to the accessible bathrooms.

just because the hotel has met the bare minimum requirements for accessibility doesnt mean we should all ignore the fact it’s a rubbish bathroom - unless of course you think that this level of mediocrity is all a disabled person deserves.

I agree. As I've already posted I'm married to a disabled DH, the OP is not being anti disabled- as in my other post I have to check what I'm getting for varied reasons bathroom wise when we go away.

PropertyD · 05/10/2025 08:37

I never let my DH organise something like this. A lot of men just don’t have the level of detail that women do. Did you tell him a bath was important to you?

NewDogOwner · 05/10/2025 08:38

Of course it is acceptable. If having a gorgeous bathroom was important to you, you should have looked at the pictures of the room you were getting and paid attention to detail.

Rubbish. Here's are the per night options for TL in central London next weekend....(hopefully image loads soon)

Yes, for Sunday (the cheapest night of the week) Check again for Friday and Saturday!!

She did and the pictures showed a luxurious bathroom with a separate free standing bath and shower…

OP, I agree I would be disappointed if for a spa hotel I didn’t have the bathroom I was expecting. Especially at that price!

Fluffypotatoe123987 · 05/10/2025 08:45

Id be upset to as im guessing you wanted a shag in the bath and shower

Livelovebehappy · 05/10/2025 08:47

It’s not how I’d style my own bathroom, but adequate for a holiday stay. But if they have misrepresented by saying it’s luxurious with free standing bath etc, then I would complain on that basis, because that doesn’t shout luxury to me.

Leilaandtheloggerheads · 05/10/2025 08:22

That’s one off events. If you’re paying £200 for travelodge rooms, god help you!

Which prove the point that no, we're not kidding you, people are paying £200 for travelodge rooms.

AgnesX · 05/10/2025 08:48

DBD1975 · 05/10/2025 08:07

Thanks, I didn't think it was cheap at all, the hotel is certainly not Premier Inn, it is a premium spa hotel for which I think the price is high end, whilst our bathroom is low end!

Hardly low end. Apart from being accessible what's the problem with it.

Consider yourself lucky you don't actually need it.

Moonnstars · 05/10/2025 08:49

Linenpickle · 05/10/2025 08:16

They need to offer a partial refund.

Why?
If the husband was informed that this was the only room available (which he conveniently can't remember if he was told) then he accepted the room and it's on him. Why should the hotel lose money because he made a mistake?
He should be the one making it up to his wife.

fruitbrewhaha · 05/10/2025 08:51

Isitmybathtimeyet · 05/10/2025 05:55

I wonder why an accessible bathroom needs to be so miserable in a hotel too? Obviously it needs the practical features required but why otherwise make no effort to make it a pleasant environment? I imagine there are many people who need to use accessible rooms who would also love to have a well decorated and welcoming bathroom rather than a medical facility.

Edited

This is what I was thinking too. We’ve all solemn DIY SOS and they make beautiful accessible houses.

SleepWalkingtoSeville · 05/10/2025 08:51

I love a shower with a seat tbh 🤣

I didn’t. But posters need to have some sensitivity and awareness that disabled people have to put up with less glam bathrooms.

😂😂😂 £220 a night for a travelodge, are you kidding me? 😂😂😂

It depends where you are. In London or holiday hotspots, £220 a night is about as cheap as it gets. Most other places, £220 is mid-range for a nice hotel.
