Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

Would appreciate views on whether or not I am being unreasonable in thinking en-suite facilities are not acceptable.

We have paid £440 for a weekend break in the UK. I am not happy and asked to move rooms but was told not possible as fully booked.

Don't know if I am being unreasonable and others would find this shower room acceptable or I am not being unreasonable and it is not what others would expect.

Currently away for the weekend, is this acceptable?

We didn't book an accessible bathroom/shower room and the photos of the hotel rooms on the website show luxurious bathrooms with free standing baths and separate showers.

If there has been a misrepresentation, take pictures and videos and demand for a refund. I travel a lot and I am fed with dodgy accommodations.

TeaAndTattoos · 05/10/2025 04:40

I’m struggling to see what’s wrong with it to be honest. It’s bathroom it functions the way it’s supposed to. what’s the issue? Is there something that I’m missing here?

Farticus101 · 05/10/2025 04:42

It doesn't look like a hotel standard bathroom at all. I've used nicer bathrooms staying at self catering apartments.

However, I usually never bother to complain about things like that as it ruins the mood of the trip. I just never book them again.

Alittlefrustrated · 05/10/2025 05:06

I'd be gutted. As a retired nurse, I'd feel like I was back at work.
Definitely not what you are expecting, if you don't need it.

I’m with you OP, it looks rather crappy and basic. And shower curtains are gross, especially ones that have been tied to a toilet cistern 🤮

Booking over the phone seems a pretty unusual move these days. Have you got a written confirmation of the booking that includes a description of the bathroom / mention of a bath? If not, then I guess you’ll have to chalk this one up to experience.

In agreement with this, urgent! When the shower curtain comes in and sticks to you!

B1anche · 05/10/2025 05:28

I would complain OP. It looks awful. I'm amazed at all these people who would happily accept it.

It looks like the ensuite shower room I had in hospital.

Elfandfairy · 05/10/2025 05:35

If it’s nothing like the photos on the website I’d complain too. It looks like you’re in hospital - clinical and functional, not a treat at all.

Oh, I just saw £440 for 2 weekend nights. So Travelodge/Premier Inn/other low end hotel. Yeah, suck it up. Its a room, that's all you can expect for £cheap.

£220 per night is not cheap?

Bellavida99 · 05/10/2025 05:37

Why did your husband book over the phone? Did he make the booking about 30 years ago? I think it looks awful especially I you are having a romantic weekend and expected a bath. I love a cosy luxury bathroom I would be really disappointed. Not sure why so many people think it looks fine! I assume he got email confirmation (or maybe a fax or letter as he’s a bit old school). I’d enjoy the weekend if they said they can’t move you then ch ck his paperwork when you’re home and ask for a partial refund.

No it isn’t. It’s not 5 star but £220 a night in a lot of places gets you a really lovely room in a nice small hotel. It’s far above what you’re paying for most Premier Inns and Travelodges.

I’d be upset, OP. I love a nice bathroom and it’s one of the things I choose a hotel on. This looks like a hospital and is not a relaxing place to be.

Does your booking confirmation say accessible room? Even if your husband was told, I imagine it may not have struck him as making such a difference to the feel of it. I think they’re being a bit disingenuous if it looks totally different to their other bathrooms.

Yes exactly.

I personally don’t like wet rooms, the whole room gets wet when you shower and I don’t like that’s there’s no separation from the toilet and shower floor.

spoonbillstretford · 05/10/2025 05:38

Why can't accessible bathrooms have the same quality as the others? I agree it looks like a hospital bathroom.

mjf981 · 05/10/2025 05:39

Looks very clean.

The only problem I can see is there is no bath. If this is the issue, see if it is listed on the booking as an inclusion. That's the only thing you can complain about.

sagebasil · 05/10/2025 05:40

What's the square thing on the wall?? Is that part of the shower?

I've stayed in lovely country house hotels for that. Premier Inns are two figures or three starting with a 1. You've been ripped off @Isitmybathtimeyet 🤭

If you're paying £220 for cheap hotel chains, Travelodge or similar, you're doing something very wrong at booking, or being repeatedly scammed. I'd contact your bank or trading standards if I were you.

It's a fold out seat for people with disabilities.

PollyBell · 05/10/2025 05:43

Why do people assume that photos on a website show 100% of every type of hotel rooms and facilities, sure a Premier Inn i would assume most are the same but not all hotels show every bit

If a room says specifically the room i book had a bath in the bathroom and the room doesn't that would be false advertising of there is nothing in the small print or hotel details but not all rooms may habe the same facilities or look the same

If I was set on certain things i would make specific contact with the hotel direct to check

I want clean and functional i dont care if it has a bath or not so wouldn't care enough to check

I don’t think you’re replying to me? I said the same as you.

pinkbackground · 05/10/2025 05:44

What’s wrong with it?

signiffig · 05/10/2025 05:49

I’ve had rooms like that before in 5* hotels but we got a substantial discount as we went through Agoda - the room was priced a lot higher elsewhere. Everything in the bathroom was placed at an odd height - the loo was too high, the sink was too low, too small, the door flung open if not closed properly. It just didn’t feel like luxury so despite the discount I wouldn’t rebook it. Mark it down to experience.

FutureMarchionessOfVidal · 05/10/2025 05:51

It’s a very depressing space and obviously not what you had in mind for a romantic break where you could sit in the bath with a glass of wine.

If this is clearly different from the other bathrooms shown in advertising material on the website then this needed to be made very clear to your husband at time of booking - just saying ‘accessible’ does not make this clear. It needed to be made crystal clear this was a hospital type bathroom. And if the hotel does not have a written record of having made this clear then they are in a weak position.

I would stress to them you are unhappy, think you were misled, & will be asking for a refund. (I would ask for a full refund with a view to accepting a partial one.)

I think they have treated you very badly by basically giving you an ‘old peoples’ home’ bathroom without making this clear at time of booking. It is not your husband’s fault at all. ‘Accessible’ would not have made this clear - if indeed they said it- to anyone not in the hotel or medical industry.

I hope you will describe your experience on the various review websites as people should be able to choose to avoid this very poor service hotel. I certainly would not want to risk booking there!

Isitmybathtimeyet · 05/10/2025 05:55

I wonder why an accessible bathroom needs to be so miserable in a hotel too? Obviously it needs the practical features required but why otherwise make no effort to make it a pleasant environment? I imagine there are many people who need to use accessible rooms who would also love to have a well decorated and welcoming bathroom rather than a medical facility.

Minimili · 05/10/2025 06:02

I’d be very disappointed with that OP. Can you post a pic of the bathroom you were expecting, or something similar?

I had a similar experience booking through spa breaks, I paid £400 for one night and they messed up our spa hotel booking so we got 45 minutes use of the pool and a rushed treatment, the food was awful and we had a similar bathroom.

I’d packed a bath bomb with rose petals and candles and was expecting a big free standing bath with fancy toiletries, a window and robes and slippers for a romantic night.
My mum had just died and after months caring for her and hardly seeing my DP it was supposed to be a chance for us to have some relaxing time together.

We also had an accessible bathroom similar to the one that had been in my mums house with a manky shower curtain, a functional instead of romantic atmosphere and stark lighting. There was an emergency pull cord that got in the way in ours and no nice toiletries or anything else we expected.

I was very emotional and complained, spa breaks did nothing but the hotel refunded half. I did have confirmation that we had booked a room with a bath though.

I know some people wouldn’t be bothered but it’s disappointing when you have spent money and have different expectations.

Check your booking to make sure your DH wasn’t aware and agreed first, if not then I’d send an email to the hotel or booking agent.
Don’t let it spoil your trip though if that’s the only issue, our whole stay was a complete let down.

I voted YABU but now I’ve seen update about pictures of a freestanding bath on the website I would be annoyed
