Our team work remotely but we get together quarterly in person. Yesterday was a meeting in the office in the morning followed by a social so it was casual dress.

I was messaging a colleague earlier back and forth about work matters and he sent something really random and then instantly deleted it but I saw it pop up as a notification so read it.

It said ‘she knew what she was doing in those leggings’ with a sweat emoji.

Now I was the only one wearing leggings yesterday so it was definitely about me. This was at about 3.30 today and I finished at 4 so nothing more was said and I expect my colleague thinks he deleted it before I saw it.

Would you say something if you were me or pretend/forget I ever saw it?

I’d take it as a compliment. But then I’m in my 50s and from the era when we didn’t get worked up about these things 🙄

Hear hear 👏

You're supposed to 'report to the police for sexual harassment ' now.

Which one's? The fun police? 🚨

For all the people saying it’s a compliment, it’s actually a “blame the woman for my bad behaviour” comment.

”she knew what she was doing” is a way to claim some kind of consent for objectification. It’s a vile comment.

It wasn't a compliment.

Having read the OP's subsequent posts I would wonder why was she wearing clothes which are completely inappropriate in a work place and actually serve no purpose other to objectify her.

It's not a compliment. Far from it. And I'm in my 60s

You’ve taken some stick here OP which I do find quite sad, and to be honest, comes across as pure jealousy of a confident woman who happens to have a cracking backside!

Fair play to you wearing clothes you are confident in - I bet most of those commenting wish they could pull off such a pair. I know I certainly couldn’t these days!

Scrunch bum leggings are absolutely hideous. No jealousy here. My self- confidence is built on more than whether or not I have a "cracking arse"

Myrtletown · 04/10/2025 23:47

to me, these type of leggings give literal baboon….that can’t be sexy. Unless you like fucking apes I guess

With respect to my colleagues, and I love most of the ladies dearly. But the average size is probably 16, so I don’t think leggings feature too prominently in their wardrobe!

At least he was complimenting you. I could take offence at your comment as I regularly wear leggings and I'm a size 16. I'll choose not to as I have my big girl pants on 😀 and can't be bothered with all this preciousness. Women regularly pass comment on the way men look.

Harvey78 · 05/10/2025 00:25

Take it as a compliment. He liked you in leggings and found you hot. Guys do this and chat to other guys about it. if you like him then you can flirt with him next time. If you are not interested, then leave it as if it never happened. Don't make nothing of it. Certainly dont tell HR

That's not appropriate conversation between colleagues, especially on work time. Seriously, have none of you people ever worked anywhere before? Cannot believe how many people think sexual harassment in the workplace is a totally normal thing

I think the reality for many as it that most of us have worked in places where sexual harassment is completely normalised and often is lashed out at the person that complains. I was “fired” once after complaining that the security guard had smacked my bottom and I turned back to him saying that was completely unacceptable behaviour and if he did it again I would complain. I said it loudly and embarrassed him in front of others so he took it up to the senior manager (a woman) to say I had disrespected him and entered the security area (which he had told me to do as he was sitting at the desk looking at cameras) to show him my bag. She took his side. And suddenly my 40 hour contact became a 0 hour contract. Let’s not pretend it doesn’t happen. It still does. For many women it is a normal thing sadly.

Don't make nothing of it? That means she should make something of it.

You sound very unprofessional in regards to work and you also haven't read the OPs posts or you'd see she's in a relationship.

Really? Well then you’re lucky I guess. Or I’m unlucky. I was born in 1985. And the example I just gave happened to me in the Uk in 2007.

That’s gross OP. I’m assuming it’s from a male colleague? I’d discuss with your line manager and ask that the chat logs are viewed. That kind of discussion is completely inappropriate for a workplace.

Stop clutching at those string pearls round your neck and have a minute will you! Major over reaction. It was a compliment towards her! Everyone at some point has made a passing comment about someone they thought looked good. Honestly, the comments on here from those saying report it, you all need to remove that rather large stick from up your behinds!

Itsjustmethatsall · 05/10/2025 03:31

Namechangerage · 03/10/2025 19:30

If you wore these to the office without a top covering the arse, that is so deeply inappropriate. He’s an arse too (pun intended) but if yours literally looked like this…. I see so many people wearing them like they’re baboons or something. Is it some kind of fetish for showing off their cracks? Because as a piece of clothing they are also so ugly and unimaginative.

This! ^^

TeenLifeMum · 03/10/2025 18:28

This can’t be real. Surely no one would actually wear scrunch leggings to a workplace? Totally inappropriate. If it’s true then yes, you knew what you were doing. I’d assume looking for attention.

Same as with this post. 🙄

Are you suggesting me writing a response on mn is the same as someone wearing scrunch leggings to a workplace or have I misunderstood (it’s 4am and I can’t sleep so I don’t really understand your comment).

Agreed it wasn’t a compliment. It was the observation that she knew her clothing was inappropriate and decided to wear it anyway.

Wearing scrunch bum leggings is deliberately to highlight and enhance the bum therefore definitely CONSENTING to other people looking at it, I'd even go do far as deliberately ENCOURAGING other people to look at it ESPECIALLY is she was also wearing a short tight tshirt with it. SHE was OBJECTIFYING herself.
