Is this a reasonable amount of salad for one person for their evening meal?

Two celery stalks
One chicken breast
Five baby potatoes
Half a red onion
Cucumber
Four small beetroot balls
One medium avocado
Watercress, rocket and spinach leaves
Chopped feta

With a dressing of anchovies, lemon juice, olive oil, mustard and honey.

YANBU - That’s definitely enough. On the large side, even.
YABU - That’s not enough.

I'd still be hungry after that tbh. Add a few more spuds maybe.

Seems excessive to me.

Honestly can't see how this could be excessive

That is alot of food.

🤣🤣🤣🤣. Jesus wept.

Fangisnotacoward · 02/10/2025 21:47

I'd probably make that two portions, but thats not to say I wouldnt eat it in one

LivelyCrab · 02/10/2025 21:47

What’s wrong with the avocado??? I always thought they were healthy??

FattyMcFattyArse · 02/10/2025 21:47

it depends on whether it's a 5 foot tall size 8 woman eating it or a 6 foot tall big framed construction worker bloke. We all have different energy needs and appetites.

Sadly I am a portly midget with the appetite of a basketball player!

Pure gluttony. One lettuce leaf is enough for me for a month.

😂😂

ObtuseMoose · 02/10/2025 21:48

If it's your only meal for the week it's fine.

BadgernTheGarden · 02/10/2025 21:48

More than enough, I might have a chicken breast 5 or less small potatoes and a couple of portions of green veg. The basic salad part seems a lot then with added feta and a whole avocado which is really heavy food and anchovies in the dressing. My DH would eat it all but he will always eat as much as you put on his plate!

Why no tomatoes in the salad, that's the best bit.

ExtraOnions · 02/10/2025 21:49

The famous MN MASSIVE salad

… to me you are missing a Pork Pie, Cheese, and Pickles

StrawberryJangle · 02/10/2025 21:49

Remove the chicken and potatoes, add to a separate plate alongside peas, carrots and cauliflower cheese. Smother in gravy and eat.

FurForksSake · 02/10/2025 21:49

i wouldn’t have an entire avocado in one sitting, probably a quarter would be sufficient for me with this. I’d also not include the anchovies, but otherwise I think it’s fine and substantial. Definitely a big meal salad.

Oh yippee, another performative undereating thread.

you obviously have a HUGE appetite if you think that’s competitive undereatimg! A whole chicken breast and potatoes and a bit of veg, fine. But there’s also a whole avocado plus everything else. It’s a lot by anyone’s standards.

competitive undereatimg Is saying I had a spoonful of yogurt and 2 raspberries and everyone saying that’s loads

NImumconfused · 02/10/2025 21:49

I think I'd find the combination of chicken and feta and avocado a bit much, I'd maybe choose any two out of those three, but other than that it sounds great.

LivingTheDreamish · 02/10/2025 21:50

Yes that sounds like an evening meal sized salad. It could easily be quite high in calories if that is a concern (easily addressed by measuring the amount of cheese and oil in the dressing), but in terms of volume of food it sounds about right to me.

They are healthy but I think a lot of calories and heavy eating on top of chicken and potatoes and all the rest.

cordeliabuffy · 02/10/2025 21:41

Same. God forbid someone eats too much… onion

if I’m eating salad I eat the entire bag of salad leaves. Volume eating

I thought the whole point of eating a salad was that you could eat as much as you fancied of it (at least the healthiest parts) so what normal person is rationing out a few leaves? Sounds like the Hunger Games

rockstarshoes · 02/10/2025 21:51

That’s a massive salad! 😬

TurnThatLightOn · 02/10/2025 21:51

Salad always makes me hungry.

OnTheBoardwalk · 02/10/2025 21:51

We need a picture @Saveusename oh and get rid of the red onion it’s awful, I don’t understand how it’s now in everything

Yep! If I add salad to a sandwich or wrap then I’m stuffing it full
my pasta tonight had an entire broccoli in it (made two portions), if I add cabbage to something on the side then I do 1/3 plus loads of other veg

Cheepcheepcheep · 02/10/2025 21:52

Two celery stalks - hate it so no
One chicken breast - so far a normal dinner
Five baby potatoes - fine
Half a red onion - can’t eat it, gives me heartburn but you do you
Cucumber - how much?
Four small beetroot balls - fine
One medium avocado - a whole avocado is a bit much
Watercress, rocket and spinach leaves - normal
Chopped feta - all good

Fgfgfg · 02/10/2025 21:52

Veggie so I'd swop the chicken and feta (don't like feta) for a load of walnuts and use a different dressing. Possibly add a chopped apple and a dollop of hummus. Needs more beetroot. You can never have enough beetroot.

Hellohelga · 02/10/2025 21:53

No tomatoes? That’s not a salad

MagicLoop · 02/10/2025 21:53

Londonrach1 · 02/10/2025 21:35

It's not a balanced diet and it's too much salad in one sitting.

How can ypu have a 'balanced diet' in one meal? Confused Your diet is what you eat over days, weeks, months... And that's why it's completely pointless to nitpick about whether this salad is too much, too little, has too much or too little protein, carbs, fat, calories etc etc. As for the 'It's not a salad' comments Hmm
There are so many MNers who have completely dysfunctional attitudes to food.

Sounds like a nice dinner to me, OP.
