See also Notting Hill. Huge Caribbean population displaced by wealthier groups

Yes, I've seen that. I've seen people argue that Brixton etc was majority white then they left with more black migration, this is obvs the reverse of that.

Either way I think change should be slower so different groups of people can bond rather than separate.

As someone who has Irish Catholic heritage I think the Catholic Church did just that.
(also there is a new Archbishop of Canterbury today - remember why the last one stood down!).

And the church of England has just appointed a female head. At least they are trying to adapt.

Also lots of stories now coming out about unwed mother's who had their babies forcefully removed by nuns and adopted out
No religion is squeaky clean, they all have problems past and present. It doesn't mean we should justify violence against any particular one

Muslims in the UK are very active in the interfaith arena. They reach out a lot, donate a lot of money to charitable causes and give a lot of their free time and resources to worthy causes. It isn't often spoken about, which is fine as charity is not something that is meant to be public in Islam. They absolutely do not "turn a blind eye to terrorism" as it is a constant accusation and people are terrified their DC will be taken away.
Every single one of your points you said about Muslims can be said for Jews (or I'm sure for any religious group, as there are bad eggs in every one).Have you listened to what leaders of Aish have said, or read ImaMother? People openly saying they are happy babies in Gaza are dead and it's a sin to feel sorry for them?
As you and others have illustrated, there is so much misinformation about Muslims being purported as fact. Look at the above about Muslims not integrating and how problematic it is that they all "mainly go to Muslim schools". Not a single ounce of fact in it. People are bringing 'facts' out of thin air and making them causal. This is contributory towards radicalisation. Imagine you are going to school, trying to live your life, get a job and all along the way people are telling you you never integrate, only mix with your own, are violent, are terrorists etc etc. This is a daily theme that many British Muslims are growing up with.

“Look at the above about Muslims not integrating and how problematic it is that they all "mainly go to Muslim schools". Not a single ounce of fact in it. “

This was said about Jewish people (that they “segregate themselves” into Jewish schools), not Muslim people. If it has since been said about Muslims, on this thread, it is because it was in response to the person who said it about the Jewish people, to make the point that it happens in all faith, surely?! Maybe read the whole thread.

Have you read the new Testament?

Ofc! What I'm saying is that I struggle to see how stoning for gay sex & adultery etc etc was ever OK before Jesus came.

LoftyRobin · 03/10/2025 12:26

DuskyBlueDepartingLight · 03/10/2025 11:20

Yes, and the German phrase 'Sieg Heil' only meant 'Hail Victory'...but the Nazi context was important, as we all know.

The idea that Muslims might need to go to war to protect themselves and others isnt problematic. That they have a word for conflict isnt the problem, here.

PraisebetoGod · 03/10/2025 12:27

nomas · 03/10/2025 12:19

But isn't what you did to the Qu'ran? Picked out verses without context?

Have you read the Koran? The consistent theme is not one of tolerance.

Where are your statistics?

I don’t have any, but more or less every serious reported attack on Jewish persons/ premises seems to have a Muslim instigation. But like I say , happy to be proved wrong if reliable statistics exist.

And yet 'Free Palestine' is only ever shouted at Jews (I'm talking when it's directed at people as opposed to plain chants at a march).

I assume they think that Jewish people in Britain support what is going on in Gaza, then.

I assume by what you say, that that assumption is wrong.
Would it possible to make the marchers aware of this?
There are marches in areas of the country where very few Jewish people live eg Derby, Lincoln, Grimsby, as well as those with still only moderate amounts of Jewish people eg Birmingham, Liverpool, Brighton. I wonder if that makes a difference to anyone's thoughts.

MyKhakiPanda · 03/10/2025 12:28

Horrace · 03/10/2025 12:18

@CleopatraSelene
You've hit the nail on head in asking how credible are religions in the first place.
The more I think about religious beliefs, the more dumbfounded I am. I really can't get my head around humans following any of it. It amazes me.

None of it is credible, just one group of people calling themselves 'chosen' in some way by a higher power who thinks that anyone with different beliefs is going to whichever version of 'hell' they have ... and people are being murdered over this nonsense. A handful here a handful there or in the instance in Gaza in their tens of thousands.

I know...I'm studying Ireland rn, theocracy in any form is scary.

But in those cases, most Irish people didn't know about it. The equivalent would be if the grooming gangs had just been imams.

MyLimeGuide · 03/10/2025 12:30

And the church of England has just appointed a female head. At least they are trying to adapt.

I mean the Christian stereotype of protecting paedophiles in the church is still recent
It's not one religion that has a problem, they all do, but within those religions there are many good people too.
People need to stop tarring everyone with the same brush and punish those who are doing awful things, paedophilia, murder, none of these things exist in isolation to one religion

MyKhakiPanda · 03/10/2025 12:31

LoftyRobin · 03/10/2025 12:27

Have you read the Talmud?

I refer you back to the Bible if you're looking for a 'Holy' book that doesn't show much tolerance!
Have your beliefs, eat or don't eat whatever food your book tells you to at whatever time of year but don't bring these arbitrary rules or laws into our civil society, and don't use them as an excuse for ethnic cleansing, murder or oppression.

samthepigeon · 03/10/2025 12:32

Verv · 03/10/2025 11:29

Not treating women and girls like chattels, and not wanting to murder jews would be a good place to start.

Wow!

I know many Muslims and this is a gross and dangerous generalisation. It does nothing to make an argument, and does you a disservice. Do you really believe this?

NorthXNorthWest · 03/10/2025 12:33

Longingdreamer · 02/10/2025 23:46

It's so bloody predictable, that when talking about a terrorist attack on the Jewish community ,instead of condemning the attack and offering sympathy, people try to:
A) minimise
B) Justify

I can't imagine this would happen if it was a terrorist attack on any other community.

The reactions here are symptomatic of the growing Anti-Semitism in the UK

I can't imagine this would happen if it was a terrorist attack on any other community.

I empathise with your frustration but your comment is an example of what you are frustrated by. As you said the focus should rightly be on supporting and protecting Jewish community. Minimising the struggle and trauma of communities of which you are not a part does not do that.

I see one of the victims was shot dead by police and another wounded by police too.

Brilliant. That’ll be used as a backdrop to whitewash the fact that a terrorist attacked and murdered Jewish British citizens.

This will now shift to “the Mossad sent them to avert your attention!” which is all over LBC comments section on instagram.

I can’t believe the stupidity of some people.

The synagogues around my way are often defaced with antisemitic graffiti. It is usually European white men of Christian descent (from teens up) who do this and they catch them a decent amount of the time. However, they are rarely paraded around the media unless they are Muslim.

I've not read the Talmud but understand it interprets and applies the laws of the TaNaKh which is what Christians call the Old Testament. I'm very familiar with the Old Testament so...

I don’t think the YABU supports terrorism. I’m sure we all think it’s awful but the police reacted quickly to neutralise the threat. There are many places in the world where police / security forces have twiddled their thumbs in tacit approval whilst civilians were being killed. I don’t think this is example of that.

The Torah is the Old Testment of the bible. The Talmud essentially breaks down the Old Testament and creates rules and standards out of its teachings.

or just disagree that Jews aren't protected perhaps? They're definitely not the only demographic under threat of violence at the moment in the UK.
