To think that if you commit a male crime, you should do male time, even if you identify as a woman?

TheAvidAmberPeer · 01/10/2025 21:09

I know this is a sensitive topic but I’ve been thinking about how justice systems handle trans women who commit serious crimes, especially violent or sexual offences, and whether it’s fair to house them in women’s prisons. To me, if you were born male and commit a crime typically associated with male offenders, particularly one involving violence against women, it seems like common sense that you should serve time in a male facility. Identity doesn’t erase biology or risk in those cases.

AIBU to think fairness and safety, especially for vulnerable female prisoners, should come before ideology?

I’m sorry. I jumped in.

Don’t apologise. That poster has a grudge against me from other threads, I think is what they are saying. Whoopie doo.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/10/2025 16:12

I can see they’ve edited their post to project a load of their nonsense onto me.

I don't have a grudge against you; I don't know anything about . You are an anonymous username to me .

Err…. It applies in all aspects wheee single sex provisions are made.

Yes, those are covered by the EQA. Do you struggle with comprehension?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/10/2025 16:14

Just for the record though @tandora I will never be ashamed of having boundaries around men or standing up for women and girls while weak, naive, disordered or easily led people let men abuse them. I’m completely impervious to your insults.

Did you miss my post? It’s the entire point of this thread which is about men in women’s spaces. So called “trans women” are men in the Equality Act, whatever equivocation you want to make about other laws.

Elektra1 · 04/10/2025 16:17

NeonFish · 04/10/2025 14:51

If the law has been clarified why are so many organisations saying they refuse to adhere to it? Some even removing female spaces and making them gender neutral to spite women? Many transwomen saying they'll 'pee where they want' and "no one can stop me"?

Explain that.

Plenty of people disregard the law. People who use drugs (plenty of them on this forum), people who shoplift because “if it’s from big companies it’s a victimless crime”, people who decide to be paid in cash so they can avoid paying the amount of tax they’re legally required to pay (plenty of them on this forum) etc. Surely you’re familiar with the concept of people not “adhering to” the law?

and there you go again;

shall we get back to the topic now?

Elektra1 · 04/10/2025 16:19

There is no “equivocation”. Under the EQA, which covers public single sex spaces, only biological men and women can enter the relevant space. Under other law, such as the GRA, a man who chooses to live as a woman can be recognised as such. It’s very simple.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/10/2025 16:19

With pleasure @Tandora

But he isn’t recognised as a woman in a female only space, regardless of the bit of paper. They discussed this in some detail in the Supreme Court hearing. Did you miss that?

These are institutions disregarding the law, not individuals.

No, I didn’t miss that. That’s exactly what I said in my previous, and several other posts. I think there is a huge discrepancy in intellect between most of the posters on this thread and Tandora and me. Those who show no interest in any view which differs from their own, and simply shout it down, are not interesting to discuss an otherwise interesting topic with. That includes everyone on this thread other than Tandora, whose views are not misogynistic, just different to yours. There is no value or interest to me in continuing to engage with you.

A “person” is a legal entity as well as an individual person. I’m out.

So, and obvs you might not be back to reply but just for the record, how is that relevant to issues which are governed by the Equality Act 2010, such as the one of “trans women” males in women’s prisons?

So you too believe rape survivors are not entitled to same sex spaces and healthcare, and thst no woman will be distressed by having to share single sex spaces with males? Wow! That’s two on this thread.

There is definitely a huge discrepancy in intellect yes. You and Tandora are definitely in a reality denying league of your own. No arguments there.

And that Tandora of all people is operating on a higher intellectual plane than the rest of us.

@Namelessnelly I don't have an issue with same sex spaces- I just have a different understanding of "sex" to you. I also in fact support spaces only for cis women in some limited circumstances. I do not , however, support the complete exclusion/ erasure of trans people from public life , which is the direction of the current EHRC guidance
