Starmer thinks I am an enemy of the state

1000 replies

Bumblebee72 · 01/10/2025 10:14

So we have it Starmer has declared at conference because I support Reform I am now an enemy of his Government.

Who would have thought it, a middle class British worker, now an enemy in the country I was born. And they say Reform is the party of Fascists. Yet we also now have the Home Secretary saying "In solving this crisis, you may not always like what I do. We will have to question some of the assumptions and legal constraints that have lasted for a generation and more". Maybe the Home Secretary too will be deemed an enemy of the state.

Am I being unreasonable to think this should be seen as a rallying cry to get this Government out at the first opportunity.

Starmer does not think you are an enemy of the state.

LarkspurLane · 01/10/2025 11:59

Which of these things are you doing, OP?

The OP appears to be reluctant to address this question.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 01/10/2025 12:00

I'm not voting for Reform and don't intend to. Anyone who thinks it will be all milk and honey once they get in will most likely be disappointed.

I don't agree with the insults though. Calling voters racist, fascists or scum does not reflect good on anyone.

How hard it is to have some respect for each other?

Eyesopenwideawake · 01/10/2025 12:01

@Bumblebee72 What are these left wing papers of which you speak? There's the Guardian and....well, you fill in the next few, please.

OneLoyalLurker · 01/10/2025 12:01

OP is clearly admitting they have been throwing bricks at asylum hotels . Yes you are the enemy if you think violence is the answer. I don't care for Starmer or labour but he did say that he understood concerns about immigration and that is the respectable line Farage gets people to follow him on. Everything else is very hateful and bigoted and very unbritish

Newsenmum · 01/10/2025 12:03

What do you actually like
about Reform?

TwistyTales · 01/10/2025 12:03

It’s absolute nonsense. Who’s it for anyway? A few mners.

Well he has certainly got a few mners all riled up. Feathers everywhere this morning.

I agree with all of this. It just missed of what massive snowflakes they are.

Who remembers Brexiteers who didn't care if the UK was poorer as a result ? They live in the searchland.

Hitler gained power legally as a right wing party
let us remember that
see any similarities? Because I do

How can people not being embarrassed at being so openly historically illiterate.

Have you even ever read a history book in the rise of the Third Reich? I suggest Richard E Evans book on this subject as a good starting point for you.

And all democratically elected parties gain power legally, you numpty. That doesn't mean they are all 'a bit like Hitler.'

And there was massive political violence during the years preceeding Hitler's rise to power, massive street fights between communists and nazis, and massive voter intimidation during the election by nazi supporters, and the defeated leader of the government gave his last speech in their parliament, whilst surrounded by jeering stormtroopers, with a cyanide capsule in his mouth so that he could commit suicide if they tried to capture him. Does that still sound like elections in modern Britain to you?

Totally keep sharing stuff like this if you want Reform to gain power.

Your sanctimonious superiority is obviously more important to you than keeping Reform from Government.

I will probably end up voting for reform because I am furious with Labour and the tories. They have fucked hard working people continually and there's only so much a person can take. I am not unaware of the problems a Reform government will bring but surely Nigel can't fuck me any harder than Starmer is doing and Johnson already has. It's diabolical it's got to this point, yet, here we are.

"I'm furious with Labour so I want people who have lived and worked here, legally, for years, to be deported..."

That's it, basically isn't it? I was born abroad and of mixed race. I have lived and worked here most of my life, paid taxes, raised a family etc. Why do I have to pay for your "fury"?

Bumblebee72 · 01/10/2025 12:06

persephonia · 01/10/2025 11:59

Sigh
For years, Farage and some of the media have been pushing a false binary between "wanting open borders" and "being labelled a racist". Every time someone criticised racist/Islamaphobic rhetoric/anti-immigration sentiments this was interpreted as "being called racist for not wanting unchecked immigration". To be fair this wasn't helped by the Conservatives stirring up anti-immigrant sentiment AND also facilitating a large increase in migration. And Gordon Brown did say that thing about that woman in 2008 (before some posters on here could talk.)

But the endless argument has been that anyone "on the left" wants open borders. Anyone who doesn't like openly racist rhetoric "doesn't want to talk about immigration". Fear mongering that if Labour gets in they will fling the doors open. Then Labour gets in. They develop firmer laws on immigration. They also criticise divisive rhetoric and racism. Rather than realising "oh, it is possible to not have open borders, and not be a racist" you interpret it as "they must be copying the racists".

Wow. All those straw men that totally exist must be feeling pretty embarrassed right now.

Sigh
It must a just be a massive co-incidence then that the Home Secretary has just this week decided that IDR is the thing she needs to tackle after Reform get some headlines.

No Reform played the tune and home secretary is dancing. This is what the most effective oppositions should be doing.
Sigh

Insults are a long and proud British political tradition. It's curious how many patriots forget this. It's almost like they don't know their own history. Which would of course be a bit dim,

EasternStandard · 01/10/2025 12:00

Well of course look at where they are. They’re panicking. Reform is setting the agenda and they’re trying to get voters back.

I think you have ideas in your head that are so strongly held, all reality is interpreted to fit those beliefs. Basically anyone who doesn't agree with everything you think is a liberal, lefty, woke radical whatever. You already know their policies and views so whatever they are the government actually do, you can interpret that as either proof they are what you thought or proof they are running scared.
Which you are entitled to do. I just don't see the point really of it really.

With logic like this I’m beginning to see why we’re in the state we are.

No it's definitely not logical to keep voting for the same two parties who continually demonstrate their untrustworthiness and incompetence.

KS is sounding increasingly desperate and like a man backed into a corner who knows time is running out for him.

I wouldn't worry about what he says.

I'm a white, female, born here and thinking of voting reform too.

The news is overun with high inflation, low growth, immigration problems, failing services and yesterday RR says something about increasing benefits re child benefit cap. I mean seriously. Debt is increasing each month, interest on goverment bonds is high as the UK is no longer seen as a safe place to invest.

Just get the fuck out of parliament both of you and let someone with some balls take over.

I used to vote Tory. I've never voted labour and I never considered reform until this year.

So you are happy to lose our nhs, benefits & child benefit will be cut. Americans pay on average £800 pm on health insurance can you afford that is for one person, think I read for a family £24k per year? Not only that who will staff our nhs when Farage deports definite rights to remain. You must be aware of what is happening in the US do you want that for us? Not to mention womens & workers rights will be eroded. You want all of that to stop 35,000 people on dinghy’s coming to the uk. He did the same with Brexit I believe Russia & Trump was involved in pushing for Brexit that worked out well for us didn’t it?

TwistyTales · 01/10/2025 10:24

He didn't call you or anyone else an enemy of the state. This is what he said:

Controlling migration is a reasonable goal.

But if you throw bricks and smash up private property…

That’s not legitimate – that’s thuggery.

Free speech is a British value – and we have guarded it for centuries.

But if you incite racist violence and hatred…

That’s not expressing concern – it’s criminal.

This party, this great party, is proud of our flags…

Yet if they are painted alongside graffiti…

Telling a Chinese takeaway owner to “go home”…

That’s not pride – that’s racism.

And if you say or imply…

That people cannot be English or British…

Because of the colour of their skin…

That mixed heritage families owe you an explanation…

And that people who have lived here for generations…

Raised their children here…

Built lives in their communities…

Working in our schools, our hospitals, running businesses…

Our neighbours…

If you say they should now be deported…

Then mark my words…

We will fight you with everything we have…

Because you are an enemy of national renewal

Thank you for introducing the facts!

Serves me right - of left? - to be insulted.

vivainsomnia · 01/10/2025 12:10

My husbands life was saved by a man so black he is blue. He is one of my top five favourite people in the world. His dialysis nurse is from India and likewise. I've grown up and worked with people of all races and I have enjoyed working with them all with one exception
So you do understand that this black person and this lovely nurse won't be there in the future? That the white British nurses will get gone too after being totally overwhelmed for doing the job of two because white people will instead be striking that they are not paid well enough?

Do you really think you can just come up with some policy that will o ly allow foreign people eho are beneficial to you and your family whilst keeping away those who are not? It doesn't work like that. Just like Brexit evidence, the lovely Indian nurse will decide to go and make a life in a welcoming country rather than one that only considers her as the worth she is bringing others. I bet you would do just the same.

People like you will the first to moan that waiting list have gone even longer and that's with an insurance policy because if you don't get the staff, you won't get the care.

I think you’ve pulled this out of nowhere. And is in your head alone.

Labour are changing policy because they don’t want to lose. They are aware of where voters are going. It’s not unheard of in politics.
