Starmer thinks I am an enemy of the state

1000 replies

Bumblebee72 · 01/10/2025 10:14

So we have it Starmer has declared at conference because I support Reform I am now an enemy of his Government.

Who would have thought it, a middle class British worker, now an enemy in the country I was born. And they say Reform is the party of Fascists. Yet we also now have the Home Secretary saying "In solving this crisis, you may not always like what I do. We will have to question some of the assumptions and legal constraints that have lasted for a generation and more". Maybe the Home Secretary too will be deemed an enemy of the state.

Am I being unreasonable to think this should be seen as a rallying cry to get this Government out at the first opportunity.

I agree completely that's not how logic works!

DarkYearForMySoul · 01/10/2025 18:06

Do you accept Farage/Reform are responsible for the Brexit boats he focuses on so much?

This has really taken off as a Labour line.

Simplestars · 01/10/2025 18:21

@Bumblebee72
I don't need anyone to guide me when deciding if Farage or Reform are racist.
I am.capable of forming that conclusion myself as many others are.

That's very much down to the UK's voting system.

But if you vote for a party with racist policies, you can't complain about being called a racist.

The problem is that people hold different definitions of “racism” don’t they? There’s the traditional, long term definition, which we once nearly all agreed on and then there’s the more recent, rather more controversial academic/ideological definitions. By my preferred definition there has been no racism on this thread and I do not believe Reform is a racist party. The insistence that anyone with concerns around mass migration for example is a vicious racist and that anyone thinking of voting Reform is racist/fascist is based in a chosen ideological belief system rather than a factual one. It is becoming easier and easier to roll one’s eyes at accusations of racism and dismiss the person making them because it’s really just their opinion rather than an agreed definition.

You don't think Yaxley-Lennon is racist either.

You as opposed to the uncosted benefit increases as bribes for labour voters?

I am actually in favour of deregulation but isn't Starmer talking about doing just anyway that for growth.

I don't think we need to rely on Europe to dictate our rules.

The NHS is already fucked. Those that love it seem to take the view, its shit service but its our shit service so that's ok.

People in the UK have not a single clue what life is like in other countries without the NHS. The NHS on its worst day is beyond compare to what we received in Canada.

One thing I just can't understand is why English born and bred people (who have had every opportunity this country has had to offer for generations) are so angry at immigrants. Is it that they are smarter? Work harder? Make them feel inferior?

The people who come in and do the jobs that British people don't want to or don't educate themselves to do. Nearly 80% of people on universal credit are white British - how does that line up with the narrative that people of colour are the problem in this country?

Any person with a bit of intelligence can look on their taxes and see how their tax dollars have been spent. 20p of my tax dollars went on the small boats! My husband (who makes 10 times what I do) paid just over 20 pounds.

Reform supporters are angry at everyone but themselves.

MousseMousse · 01/10/2025 18:02

Newsflash: the country isn't divided into Labour supporters & Reform supporters.

And of what relevance is that for the comment? What a bizarre thing to feel the need to post?

He didn't call you or anyone else an enemy of the state. This is what he said:

Controlling migration is a reasonable goal.

But if you throw bricks and smash up private property…

That’s not legitimate – that’s thuggery.

Free speech is a British value – and we have guarded it for centuries.

But if you incite racist violence and hatred…

That’s not expressing concern – it’s criminal.

This party, this great party, is proud of our flags…

Yet if they are painted alongside graffiti…

Telling a Chinese takeaway owner to “go home”…

That’s not pride – that’s racism.

And if you say or imply…

That people cannot be English or British…

Because of the colour of their skin…

That mixed heritage families owe you an explanation…

And that people who have lived here for generations…

Raised their children here…

Built lives in their communities…

Working in our schools, our hospitals, running businesses…

Our neighbours…

If you say they should now be deported…

Then mark my words…

We will fight you with everything we have…

Because you are an enemy of national renewal

I don’t think it does. I do wonder if it’s what Labour are relying on though. In which case good luck to them.

This is clearly a goady thread, like much of what Reform voters do and say. It feels like the whole party and its supporters want is to stamp their feet and get attention, probably because they don’t have much power or attention in their real lives. I think we’ll look back at these times and the rise of Reform and be truly horrified at what they did to our culture and country. Nothing patriotic about that.

Increasing the number of people in the country by 1m per year is the main cause of the housing crisis. Everyone who comes in need a house and houses don't magic out of the year. This increases the cost of housing and is one of the reason the cost of living hits harder. Some people don't care since the government pays them benefits to cover the increased costs but for others it is harder and harder to get even rental accommodation. It is nothing personal about immigrants just there is only so many houses to live in.

I think he’s working class, with an extremely imperfect origin story, and not as articulate about his concerns as snobby middle classes would like him to be. I think his activism has questionable roots but he’s been found to be right about a lot. My thoughts on SYL are to be found elsewhere on MN though, anyone can go look but they’re no where on this thread…

Isn’t it bad form to reference other threads? Against MN roolz?

InsectsMatter · 01/10/2025 18:36

You are brave OP to admit your allegiance to Reform on Mumsnet, the last bastion of the REVELS (Rich Enough to Even Vote Labour).

I welcome the next Reform government as I pray it will replace the corrupt uniparty stranglehold that seems utterly determined to destroy everything we hold dear.

Here’s hoping 🤞

I think exactly along the same lines as you. I was never a Tory voter, but I actually liked rishi sunak. He seemed to have integrity and whilst acknowledging his extreme privilege, still seemed to actually give a shit about the w/c. He had a plan. Unfortunately, he came into leadership after far too many years of Tory ineptitude. Starmer loathes the working classes, yesterday's speech was a very thinly veiled attack on their " stupidity " and " ignorance ". I guess we should have expected this given his past as a human rights lawyer.

You’re so wrong, he doesn’t loathe the working classes, he loathes the small section of the population that are racists. If you think whole of the working class are racist then it’s you making that connection not anyone else.

REVELS 😆

I’ve never heard that before!

yellowspanner · 01/10/2025 18:37

Reform have never said anything about the colour of people's skin. They have said they will deport illegal immigrants and make it harder to get ILR. I agree with that
They will leave the ECHR. Good
Only British nationals will be able to claim benefits. Of course that's right.
Cutting benefits and charging for some NHS services will save money. And the deportations will be budgeted for.
It's not as if two tier is sorting the economy out, is it?

Talltales seem to think posting the same irrelevant part of the speech over and over proves that Kier didn't say this:

"History will not forgive us if we do not use every ounce of our energy to fight Reform. There is an enemy. There is a project which is detrimental to our country. It actually goes against the grain of our history. It's right there in plain sight in front of us. We have to win this battle"

When he patently did.
